Background Penile amputation is an emergency urologic condition requiring immediate attention in order to maximize functional outcomes. Unfortunately, there is limited experience and publication of case reports describing the successful replantation of penis after incomplete amputation, especially in facilities without adequate microsurgical tools and means. selleck chemicals We hereby present a case of penile amputation caused by a mechanical grass cutter and a discussion of its surgical management. Case description A 33-year-old Indonesian male presented to the emergency department with incomplete penile amputation six hours post injury. The patient has no prior medical history and presented with penile amputation due to a mechanical grass cutter trauma. He underwent immediate non-microsurgery reconstructive replantation of the penis, reattaching all visible vascular, corporal, and fascia layers. After replantation, the patient recovered well and showed preserved normal appearance and sensitivity of the penis. Subsequent Doppler ultrasound investigation revealed adequate arterial flow at the distal end of the anastomosis. The patient was discharged five days after surgery. Conclusion In the absence of microsurgical tools and means, the use of non-microsurgical replantation with an at least 2.5x loupe magnification should be the choice of treatment in the case of incomplete penile amputation. The technique showed good outcomes involving adequate functional and cosmetic restoration.Background Generally, the yield of ratoon rice is at most 50% of the main crop. However, a cropping method "SALIBU" achieved more yield than the main crop and enables the perennial cropping. Although the SALIBU method is implementing 10 additional management practices to conventional method in Indonesia, the effect of each management practice is unclear. Methodology We evaluated the effect size using an L 16 orthogonal array design pot experiment in triple-cropping rice in Vietnam. The robustness was checked by duplicating the experiment under standard and poor conditions. Results and Discussion Positive large effects were shown in the poor conditions only. Cutting twice most affected the number of ratoon tillers. Importantly, the effect was positive under poor conditions but negative under standard conditions. Late irrigation had a robust negative effect. No treatment is effective in the triple-cropping of standard conditions. The SALIBU includes practices with unstable, negative, or minimal effects. The unstable effects show the interaction with the condition. The practices that have negative effects should exclude. Using practice on small effect size should depend on a cost-benefit analysis. Conclusions No additional practice is effective for changing the triple-cropping to perennial ratoon cropping except harvesting near the ground. However, further work will be conducted to clarify the interaction between cutting twice and the cultivation condition.Life science has entered the so-called 'big data era' where biologists, clinicians and bioinformaticians are overwhelmed with high-throughput sequencing data. While they offer new insights to decipher the genome structure they also raise major challenges to use them for daily clinical practice care and diagnosis purposes as they are bigger and bigger. Therefore, we implemented a software to reduce the time to delivery for the alignment and the sorting of high-throughput sequencing data. Our solution is implemented using Message Passing Interface and is intended for high-performance computing architecture. The software scales linearly with respect to the size of the data and ensures a total reproducibility with the traditional tools. For example, a 300X whole genome can be aligned and sorted within less than 9 hours with 128 cores. The software offers significant speed-up using multi-cores and multi-nodes parallelization.
If the size of an intracranial aneurysm is below 3 mm, clinicians rarely treat them because of the low risk of rupture. But subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) due to the rupture of very small intracranial aneurysm (VSIA) (saccular aneurysm sized less than 3 mm) may lead to many critical neurological complications. So we analyzed the characteristics and differences between the ruptured VSIA group and the ruptured non-VSIA group.
421 saccular aneurysms from patients with SAH between January 2016 and December 2019 were included. Patient information including age, sex, and medical history and information about the aneurysm including location, size, aspect ratio, inflow angle, and height-width ratio were collected. And we compared the VSIA group with non-VSIA group about these characteristics.
12.1% (51/421) of the aneurysms were included in the VSIA group, while the non-VSIA group consisted of 87.9% of the aneurysms (370/421). The female predominance was significantly higher in the VSIA group than that in the noal sac rupture.Objective To investigate the effect of Na(+)/K(+)-ATPase inhibitor ouabain on the proliferation and division of liver cancer HepG2 cells, and to explore the anticancer mechanism. Methods HepG2 cells were exposed with different concentrations of ouabain (0.1, 1, 10 μmol/L) for 24 h, the proliferation ability was appraised using CCK-8, and the HepG2 cells was as a control group. The status of chromosome separation was detected with cell immunofluorescence (ICC) coupled to confocal microscope. The expression levels of AURKA, mTOR, p-mTOR, ERK and p-ERK protein were analyzed using western blot. Results After treating with 0.1, 1 and 10 μmol/L of ouabain for 24 h, the inhibitory rate of cells were (23.5±4.57)%, (49.80±5.32)%, and (72.10±5.62)%, respectively. Ouabain could significantly inhibit the proliferation of HepG2, and presented in a dose-dependent manner(F=32.8, P less then 0.05). The ICC results showed that the chromosome separation disorders occurred in HepG2 cells treated with 1 μmol/L for 24 h, and the spindle diameter of HepG2 cells with ouabain treatment was decreased significantly compared with the control group(t=9.58, P less then 0.05). The results of western blot showed that the expression levels of AURKA, p-mTOR and p-ERK expressions in HepG2 cells treated with 1 μmol/L of ouabain were significantly decreased compared with the control group(F=16.26, 8.32, 33.59, P less then 0.05). Ouabain inhibited the growth of hepatocellular carcinoma cells in nude mice(F=370.20, P less then 0.05). Conclusion Ouabain can induce chromosome division disorder and inhibit the proliferation in liver cancer HepG2 cells by inhibiting AURKA signaling pathway.
