The three Alzheimer's-focused #SaludTues tweetchats particularly served as unique testing grounds for the fast dissemination and increasingly exposed many people to the issue of AD and the need to advocate for the Latino community.Kleefstra syndrome (KS) is a genetic syndrome caused by a haploinsufficiency of the EHMT1 gene and characterized by intellectual disability, language disorders, childhood hypotonia and distinct facial features. Only a few cases of first episode of psychosis in KS have already been reported. We describe a young female patient with KS who presented a first episode of psychosis. In a context of an initial diagnosis wavering and a lack of recommendations, this clinical observation illustrates the importance of psychiatric comorbidities and their diagnostic and therapeutic complexity in KS; with a need for multidisciplinary management considering its specific aspects and vulnerabilities.Although disordered eating is prevalent in college women, most will not receive treatment, and existing approaches have limitations. Thus, novel and accessible approaches are warranted. However, few behavioral health interventions progress beyond initial implementation, underscoring the importance of feasibility and acceptability data to guide intervention development and refinement. Stakeholder perspectives can enrich these data, as they can highlight potential mechanisms to investigate in larger randomized-controlled trials (RCTs). The current study examined participant and leader feedback from an 8-week pilot intuitive eating (IE) intervention for college women with disordered eating delivered through group and guided self-help (GSH) modalities. Participants (N = 71) and leaders (N = 8) completed anonymous weekly surveys and exit questionnaires. Overall, the intervention was acceptable and feasible for both participants and leaders. Unique benefits of each modality, such as validation and support in group, and individualization and convenience in GSH, contributed to participant satisfaction and efficacy. Moreover, potential mechanisms of intervention effects, such as interoceptive awareness and self-compassion, were cited in both conditions, and should be explored in a future, fully-powered RCT. Areas for potential refinement include extending the intervention, assessing a hybrid treatment, online delivery, and careful design of a control condition to isolate the intervention's mechanisms of change.Aim Polymorphisms in alpha A crystallin (CRYAA) gene have been implicated in susceptibility to cataracts, but some published studies have reported inconclusive results. Our study aimed to conduct a meta-analysis investigating the association between polymorphisms in CRYAA and susceptibility to cataracts. Methods The PubMed, Excerpta Medica Database, Cochrane Library and China National Knowledge Infrastructure were searched for all articles published up to 20 March 2019 that reported cataracts and three polymorphisms (rs3761381, rs13053109, and rs7278468) of CRYAA. Afterwards, statistical analysis was performed for available articles. Results Four articles published between 2014 and 2017 were included, involving 869 cases and 1,950 controls. There was no statistical evidence of an association between cataract risk and CRYAA gene polymorphisms rs13053109 (p > .05) and rs3761382 (p > .05). Significant decreased cataract risks were observed for different gene models of rs7278468 polymorphism for G vs T, OR = 0.6640; 95% CI, 0.5361-0.7736, p less then .001; for GG vs TT, OR = 0.3864; 95% CI, 0.2379-0.6278, p less then .001; for GG vs TT+GT, OR = 0.4492; 95% CI, 0.2829-0.7134, p = .001; for GG+GT vs TT, OR = 0.6645; 95% CI, 0.5058-0.8729, p = .003; for GT vs TT, OR = 0.7508; 95% CI, 0.5639-0.9996, p = .050.Conclusion Our meta-analysis indicated that rs3761382 and rs13053109 polymorphisms of CRYAA may not be associated with susceptibility to cataracts. Individuals carrying mutant genotype of rs7278468 polymorphism are associated with a significantly decreased cataract risk.Abbreviations CC Congenital cataract; ARC Age-related cataract; SNPs single nucleotide polymorphisms; NOS Newcastle-Ottawa Scale; HWE Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium; OR odds ratio; CI confidence interval; qPCR quantitative polymerase chain reaction; NO nuclear opalescence; NC nuclear color.Sustainability has been an important issue in cosmetic industry, resulting in increasing concerns about environmental impacts, starting by the selection of raw materials. The aim of this work was the production of biopolymeric films based on a cassava starch and gelatin mixture (11) with the incorporation of natural antioxidants, such as vitamin C and catuaba extract aiming its future use as an eco-friendly cosmetic. Films were produced by casting (2.0 g polymer/100 g filmogenic solution) employing glycerol (20 g/100 g polymer) as plasticizer, and vitamin C (0-10.0 g/100 g polymer) and catuaba extract (0-1.5 g/100 g polymer) were added as bioactive compounds. All formulations resulted in films with good appearance and homogeneity. All films produced with vitamin C and catuaba extract had their antioxidant capacity demonstrated, the catuaba extract films presented an antioxidant capacity values between 6.65% and 57.56%, and the vitamin C films presented values between 75.62% and 100%, even in those produced with low concentrations. this website Films loaded with vitamin C (10 g/100 g polymer) presented the highest antioxidant capacity (93.33%). Films prepared with 1.5 g catuaba extract/100 g polymer and all vitamin C formulations are promising alternatives for use as sustainable cosmetic products.Disordered eating is prevalent among trauma survivors, yet little is known about mechanisms underlying this relation. We explored cross-sectional and longitudinal associations of trauma exposure and posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms (PTSD) with disordered eating among 1,420 community-based youth participating in the Great Smoky Mountain Study. Participants were interviewed about trauma exposure, PTSD symptoms, and disordered eating at regular intervals throughout childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood. Our findings confirmed associations of all forms of trauma exposure (violent, sexual, and other) with disordered eating symptoms in childhood and adulthood, although the pattern of results varied by disordered eating symptom and trauma exposure type. Only non-sexual, non-violent trauma exposure in childhood had significant associations with any disordered eating symptoms in adulthood. Within childhood, trauma exposures but not PTSD symptoms showed significant longitudinal associations with bulimia nervosa symptoms and sustained appetite changes and preoccupation with eating.
