In data analysis; descriptive statistics, Pearson's χ2 test, Mann-Whitney U test, and Wilcoxon Sign tests were used. FINDINGS There was a significant difference in anger management levels of the experimental group after the adaptation theory-based therapeutic approach program. CONCLUSION Study results showed that the adaptation-base therapeutic approach is effective in adolescent's anger management. This program will contribute to theoretical and practical studies and field experts. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.AIMS Colon preparation is vital yet more difficult in elderly patients with severe lower gastrointestinal bleeding (LGIB). The aim of this study is to show the efficacy, safety and outcomes of unprepared polyethylene glycol (PEG)-flush retrograde colon cleansing in the diagnosis and treatment of elderly home care patients with LGIB. METHODS A single-center study was performed between January 2014 and June 2018. Elderly home healthcare patients presenting with hematochezia were enrolled, and an unprepared retrograde bowel cleansing colonoscopy was performed within the first 8 h after admission to the emergency department. PEG solution (2 L) was added to the water jet tank, and jet pump injection was started from the left side of the colon to the right segment of the colon and ended up at the cecum. RESULTS In total, 33 elderly patients presenting with hematochezia were evaluated. Mean inward and outward procedure times were 17.06 ± 4.92 (8-33 min) and 28.66 ± 6.88 (10-30 min), respectively. Most of the bleeding was localized in the right colon at 22 patients (66.3%). Endoscopic treatment was performed in 87.9% of patients. The average length of stay in hospital was 44.70 ± 42.81 (range 18.00-240.00 h). CONCLUSIONS Immediate unprepared PEG-flush colonoscopy in elderly home care patients with acute LGIB is a safe and effective method, which detects bleeding sources and provides endoscopic therapy. With this procedure, the time of hospital stay is reduced. This approach may be used for the initial intervention in patients admitted to emergency departments or intensive care unit with severe acute LGIB. However, these factors have not been externally validated in detail. METHODS This retrospective study examined 35 patients who had been diagnosed with Grade III AC and treated with laparoscopic cholecystectomy between January 2008 and July 2019. The patients were allocated into an early group (patients who underwent surgery within 7 days of admission, n = 28) and a delayed group (patients who underwent surgery at least 8 days after admission, n = 7). Comparisons were made between these groups. RESULTS No patients died. Significantly more patients required a conversion to open surgery (0% vs 28.5%, P = .003) or conversion to subtotal cholecystectomy (25.0% vs 71.4%, P = .020) in the delayed group than in the early group, and the total length of postoperative stay was significantly longer in the delayed group (11.4 vs 27.2 days, P = .001). The presence of negative predictive factors or risk factors listed in the 2018 Tokyo guidelines was not associated with death or postoperative complications. CONCLUSIONS Early surgery was considered appropriate and feasible for select patients who had Grade III AC and preoperative risk factors. © 2020 Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery, Asia Endosurgery Task Force and John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd.Iron-based nanomaterials with the ability to induce cellular ferroptosis provides an innovative way to combat cancer. To improve anticancer efficacy,  current ferro-therapeutic nanoagents are often intergrated with other therapeutic modalities, which however makes  them have sophisticated nanostructures and multi-metal ingredients. This study  reports the development of iron-chelated semiconducting polycomplex nanoparticles (SPFeN) for photoacoustic (PA) imaging-guided photothermal ferrotherapy of cancer. The hybrid ferrotherapeutic polymeric nanoagent comprises ferroptosis initiator (Fe 3+ )  an d an amphiphilic semiconducting polycomplex (SP C ) serving as both the photothermal nanotransducer and iron ion chelator. By virtue of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) grafting and small size, SPFeN effectively accumulates in the tumor of living mice after  systemic administration , which can be monitored by PA imaging. At acidic tumor microenvironment, SPFeN exerts upregulated generation of hydroxyl radial, leading to  ferroptosis; meanwhile, under  near infrared (NIR) laser irradiation, it  generates localized heat not only to further accelerate the Fenton-reaction rate but also to implement photothermal therapy. Such a synergetic photothermal ferrotheraputic effect of SPFeN not only leads to minimized dosage of iron compared to the previous studies, but also effectively inhibits the tumor growth in living mice which is not possible for the controls. This study thus provides a polymeric approach to integrate other therapeutic modality with ferrotherapy for enhanced cancer treatment. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. GCN2iB In addition to conducting multidisciplinary research of excellence, IRB Barcelona is committed to maintaining an open dialogue with the public about its work, fostering scientific vocations and promoting scientific culture in society. In this regard, the institute has several public engagement and science education initiatives to reach these goals. In this article, we highlight two projects directed toward primary school and secondary school students, respectively the Tandem Project and the Crazy About Biomedicine Programme. Although each of these activities has slightly different objectives and target audiences, they share the commitment of the institute to contribute to the science education of young students. We believe that it is the responsibility of research institutes to promote these kinds of initiatives, which have the potential to spark passion for science and thus foster scientific vocations.
