Introduction Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a complex and heterogenous disease that is associated with a range of respiratory and non-respiratory symptoms, which highly contribute to the daily burden of the disease. Symptoms burden remains high despite optimal bronchodilator therapy, but pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is an effective intervention to improve patients' symptoms. A comprehensive interdisciplinary approach within the framework of a PR program is warranted to tackle these complex symptoms and their consequences. Areas covered This narrative review describes how symptoms of dyspnea, fatigue, cough, sputum, anxiety, depression, pain, sleep disturbances, and cognitive decline arise in COPD and can contribute to several non-pulmonary manifestations of the disease. It also describes evidence of the effectiveness of interdisciplinary PR programs to counteract these symptoms. A literature search was performed on PubMed and Scopus between June and July 2020. Expert opinion Respiratory and non-respiratory symptoms are highly prevalent, often not comprehensively assessed, and result in several extra-pulmonary manifestations of the disease (physical, emotional and social). Interdisciplinary PR programs can improve these negative manifestations through different pathways, contributing for an effective symptoms' management. A thorough assessment of symptoms (beyond dyspnea) should be routinely performed and may support the identification of treatable traits, allowing the tailoring of PR interventions and assessment of their real-life impact.In the present study, hearing sensitivity in children with speech sound disorder (SSD) is scrutinized. Middle ear function (wideband tympanometry and acoustic stapedial reflexes, ASR) and inner ear function (audiometric thresholds in the conventional1-8 kHz and extended10-16 kHz high frequency (EHF) range, and distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs2-10 kHz) were investigated. Hearing results were analyzed in relation to speech discrimination of phonemic contrasts (quiet and in noise conditions) and reproduction. Thirty-two children with SSD and 41 children with typical development (TD) ages 4-5 years participated. Children with SSD exhibited significantly less sensitive hearing compared to children with TD. This was demonstrated as more absent contralateral ASR (right ear SSD 43.7%; TD 22.0%), a higher prevalence of minimal hearing loss (MHL, > 15 dB HL at one or more frequencies or ears1-8 kHz and PTA ≤ 20 dB HL, SSD 53.1%; TD 24.3%) and EHF hearing impairment (EHF HI, > 20 dB HL at one or more frequencies or ears10-16 kHz, SSD 31.3%; TD 24.3%). At 2 kHz bilaterally, children with SSD showed significantly higher hearing thresholds than children with TD (mean difference, left ear 3.4 dB right ear 4.3 dB), together with a significantly lower SNR in DPOAEs at 2.2 kHz (left ear 5.1 dB mean difference between groups). In all children, audiometric thresholds at the key-frequencies for speech, 2 and 4 kHz and DPOAEs within similar spectral regions, predicted 7-12% of the variance in phonemic discrimination and reproduction. Overall, these results suggest that hearing should be more fully investigated in children with SSD.Bone marrow (BM) niche is a specific microenvironment for hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) as well as non-hematopoietic cells. Evidence shows that chemo/radiotherapy can lead to the disruption of different properties of HSCs such as proliferation, differentiation, localization, self-renewa, and steady-state of cell populations. Investigations have shown that the deregulation of balance within the marrow cavity due to chemo/radiotherapy could lead to bone loss, abnormal hematopoiesis, and enhanced differentiation potential of mesenchymal stem cells towards the adipogenic lineage. Therefore, understanding the underlying mechanisms of chemo/radiotherapy induced BM niche changes may lead to the application of appropriate therapeutic agents to prevent BM niche defects. Highlights Chemo/radiotherapy disrupts the steady-state of bone marrow niche cells and result in deregulation of normal balance of stromal cell populations. Chemo/radiotherapy agents play a significant role in reducing of bone formation as well as fat accumulation in the bone marrow niche. Targeting molecular pathways may lead to recovery of bone marrow niches after chemo/radiotherapy.Introduction Despite progress in the field of high-risk localized prostate cancer (HRPCa) treatments, high-risk patients treated with curative intent are at increased risk of biochemical recurrence, metastatic progression and cancer-related death. The optimal treatment strategy remains a topic of debate. This review provides an overview of the current and investigational therapeutic options for HRPCa.Areas covered A PubMed search was performed for papers on the current perspectives on the multimodality treatment of HRPCa. We focus on both primary local treatment as well as systemic treatment options. Finally, relevant ongoing trials focusing on systemic treatments (including [neo]adjuvant treatments) enrolling at least 50 patients were retrieved, to highlight ongoing research and treatment optimization.Expert opinion Disease progression in HRPCa patients is driven by local tumor extension and subclinical metastases. Therefore, the main treatment concept is a multimodal approach targeting the primary tumor with extended surgery or RT with long-term ADT and simultaneously targeting micro-metastatic deposits. EE is a theory and evidence-based communication strategy that employs entertainment media for educational messaging. Here, we briefly review EE campaigns in response to previous health emergencies and present three cases of EE responses to the COVID-19 pandemic from leading global organizations (PCI Media, BBC Media Action, and Sesame Workshop). Responses ranged from adaptation and re-distribution of existing content to creating new content under social-distancing restrictions and utilizing transmedia. These cases demonstrate that EE initiatives responding to future pandemics may be well served by starting with existing infrastructure to quickly build capacity, support, and trust; working with partners to tailor programs to the local context; and continuing to focus on good storytelling while simultaneously considering evolving media formats and theory.Cytarabine (Ara-C) is a nucleoside analogue used in the treatment of cancers and viral infections. It has teratogenic potential and causes a variety of birth defects in fetuses. Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is a natural antioxidant offers protection against the developmental toxicity induced by drug- or toxicant-exposure or pathological conditions. This study was aimed at evaluating the protective effect of ALA against Ara-C induced developmental toxicity in rat fetus. Pregnant rats divided into five groups and received normal saline, ALA200 mg/kg, Ara-C12.5 mg/kg, Ara-C25 mg/kg and, Ara-C25 mg/kg plus ALA200 mg/kg respectively from gestational day (GD) 8 to GD14 and sacrificed on GD21. Ara-C treatment led to a significant and dose-dependent decrease in food intake, weight gain, placental weight, and an increase in oxidative stress in pregnant rats. Further, the in-utero exposure to Ara-C led to an increase in fetal mortality, resorptions, oxidative stress, external morphological anomalies and limb abnormalities, and impaired ossification. Co-administration of ALA resulted in amelioration of the footprints of Ara-C induced toxicity in pregnant rats as well as the fetus. These findings indicate that the ALA supplementation offers protection against developmental toxicity caused by Ara-C prenatal exposure in rats.

by antioxidant parameters, and use ICP-MS to measure the heavy metals in the Wei River. Then, we observe the effects of three common heavy metal ions (Cr
, Hg
, Pb
) on the regeneration of planarians on morphological and histological levels.
The significant changes of antioxidant parameters (SOD, CAT, GPx, GST, T-AOC) and MDA content indicate that oxidative stress is induced after the Wei River exposure on planarians, though the heavy metals in the Wei River are not exceeding the standards. Then, the regeneration of planarians shows different degree of morphological and histological damage after Cr
, Hg
and Pb
exposure.
We speculate that the heavy metal ions in the Wei River, especially Cr

The aim of this study was to assess the conformity of monitoring with guidelines to prevent Metabolic Syndrome. Research design and method The analysis was conducted using SNIIRAM data (2013 to 2017) on a cohort of patients who received at least eight antipsychotic dispensings in the first year. Glucose and lipid testings were recorded according to refunds at initiation [between -3 and 0.5 months], 3 months [between 2 and 4 months], and 12 months [between 11 and 13 months] after, and assuming optimal testing during hospitalization (exclusive of psychiatric unit). Descriptive and comparative analysis, «chi-squared test or Student's t-test», were performed as well as multivariate analysis with logistic regression. Results 18 760 patients were selected, 14 421 were still alive and monitored at the end of the follow up. Many studies have analyzed the quality of school wellness policies, but evidence is lacking regarding the dissemination of the policy evaluation results to school districts. This study describes the process the Wisconsin Health Atlas followed to disseminate tailored school wellness policy data reports and interactive dashboards to school districts throughout the state and the results of the statewide dissemination efforts. Prioritizing the translation of research to practice, the process included collaborating with key stakeholders and partners to provide formative feedback on the dissemination activities. The electronic and hard copy reports were disseminated to 232 districts through email and U.S. mail. Each district received a tailored report featuring an executive summary, local data for action, personalized policy recommendations, best practices, and a unique code to enter into interactive data dashboards to explore additional local, regional, and state-level data.
