Atraumatic splenic rupture (ASR) is a rare complication of acute pancreatitis with high mortality and morbidity rates. We present a case of a 63-year-old woman with a history of hypertension, presenting with acute pancreatitis who subsequently developed a splenic rupture requiring a laparotomy and splenectomy. HsThg1 incorporated GTP opposite A or C in the template most efficiently. In contrast to CaThg1, HsThg1 could incorporate UTP opposite A, and guanosine diphosphate (GDP) opposite C. These results suggest that HsThg1 could transfer not only GTP, but also other NTPs, by forming Watson-Crick (WC) hydrogen bonds between the incoming NTP and the template base. On the basis of the molecular mechanism, HsThg1 succeeded in labeling the 5'-end of tRNAHis with biotinylated GTP. Structural analysis of HsThg1 was also performed in the presence of the mitochondrial tRNAHis Structural comparison of HsThg1 with other Thg1 family enzymes suggested that the structural diversity of the carboxy-terminal domain of the Thg1 enzymes might be involved in the formation of WC base-pairing between the incoming GTP and template base. Anticoagulants are efficacious, but their optimal preventive doses are unknown. The present study was aimed to compare different enoxaparin doses/kg of body weight in the prevention of clot complications in COVID-19 pneumonia. Retrospective data from a cohort of adult patients hospitalized for COVID-19 pneumonia, never underwent to oropharyngeal intubation before admission, were collected in an Internal Medicine environments equipped for non-invasive ventilation. Unfavorable outcomes were considered as deep venous thrombosis, myocardial infarction, stroke, pulmonary embolism, cardiovascular death. Fourteen clinical thromboembolic events among 42 hospitalized patients were observed. Patients were divided into two group on the basis of median heparin dose (0.5 mg-or 50 IU-for kg). The decision about heparin dosing was patient by patient. Higher enoxaparin therapy (mean 0.62±0.16 mg/kg) showed a better thromboprophylactic action (HR=0.2, p=0.04) with respect to lower doses (mean 0.42±0.06 mg/kg), independently from the clinical presentation of the disease. Therefore, COVID-19 pneumonia might request higher enoxaparin doses to reduce thromboembolic events in hospitalized patients, even if outside intensive care units.Lipids are essential to all living organisms, as an energy source, as an important cellular structural component, and as a communication tool. In this study, we used global lipidomic methods to evaluate the lipids in leaf-cutter ant fungal gardens. Leaf-cutter ants and their coevolved fungal cultivar, Leucoagaricus gongylophorus, are a model mutualistic system. The fungus enzymatically digests fresh plant material that the ants cut and deliver, converting energy and nutrients from plants and providing them to the ants through specialized hyphal swellings called gongylidia. Using combined liquid chromatography, ion mobility spectrometry, and tandem mass spectrometry, we evaluated differences between the molecular species of lipids in the leaf-cutter ant fungal garden ecosystem. This lipidomic study characterized leaves that are fed to the gardens, gongylidia that are produced by the fungus to feed the ants, and spatially resolved regions of the fungal garden through stages of leaf degradation. However, less than 4% of microbial experiments include the sample group annotations required to assess differential gene expression for high-throughput reanalysis, and data deposited after 2014 universally lack these annotations. Our algorithm GAUGE (general annotation using text/data group ensembles) automatically annotates GEO microbial data sets, including microarray and RNA sequencing studies, increasing the percentage of data sets amenable to analysis from 4% to 33%. Eighty-nine percent of GAUGE-annotated studies matched group assignments generated by human curators. To demonstrate how GAUGE annotation can lead to scientific insight, we created GAPE (GAUGE-annotated Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli transcriptomic compendia for reanalysis), a Shiny Web interface to analyze 73 GAUGE-annotated P. aeruginosa studies, three times more than previously available. GAPE analysis revealed that PA3923, a genend reanalysis. GAUGE annotations increase statistical power and, thereby, make consistent patterns of differential gene expression easier to identify. In addition, we developed GAPE (GAUGE-annotated Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli transcriptomic compendia for reanalysis), a Shiny Web interface that performs parallel analyses on P. aeruginosa and E. coli compendia. Source code for GAUGE and GAPE is freely available and can be repurposed to create compendia for other bacterial species.
