It remains unclear about the association of muscle mass, strength, and quality with death in the general Chinese population of diverse economical and geographical backgrounds. The present study aimed to comprehensively examine such associations across different regions in China.

Based on the China Kadoorie Biobank study, the present study included 23,290 participants who were aged 38 to 88 years and had no prevalent cardiovascular diseases or cancer. Muscle mass and grip strength were measured using calibrated instruments. Arm muscle quality was defined as the ratio of grip strength to arm muscle mass. Low muscle mass, grip strength, and arm muscle quality were defined as the sex-specific lowest quintiles of muscle mass index, grip strength, and arm muscle quality, respectively. Cox proportional hazards models yielded hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for risks of all-cause mortality in relation to muscle mass, strength, and quality.

During a median follow-up of 3.98 years, 739 participants died. The HR (95% CI) of all-cause mortality risk was 1.28 (1.08-1.51) for low appendicular muscle mass index, 1.38 (1.16-1.62) for low total muscle mass index, 1.68 (1.41-2.00) for low grip strength, and 1.41 (1.20-1.66) for low arm muscle quality in models adjusted for sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyle factors, and medical histories.

Low muscle mass, grip strength, and arm muscle quality are all associated with short-term increased risks of mortality, indicating the importance of maintaining normal muscle mass, strength, and quality for general Chinese adults.

Nasal insertion is the preferred method for non-intubated patients in flexible bronchoscopy; however, the relatively narrow nasal cavity results in difficulties related to bronchoscope insertion. This study aimed to investigate whether pre-operative nasal probe tests could reduce the time to pass the glottis, improve the first-pass success rate and patients' tolerance, and reduce postoperative bleeding.

This three-arm prospective randomized controlled trial was conducted in a tertiary hospital between May and October 2020. Three hundred patients requiring diagnosis and treatment using flexible bronchoscopy were randomly allocated to three groups control group, simple cotton bud detection group (CD group), and adrenaline + lidocaine detection group (AD group). The primary outcome was the time to pass the glottis. Secondary outcomes included the first-pass success rate, the patients' tolerance scores, and post-operative bleeding. One-way analysis of variance, Kruskal-Wallis H test, Chi-squared test, Fisher'nded as a time-saving procedure for patients undergoing flexible bronchoscopy.

To evaluate agreement between 2 standard laboratory (SL) methods and an immunochromatographic strip (ICS) method to crossmatch dogs receiving RBC transfusions.A second objective was to evaluate uninterpretable SL crossmatch results as compared to ICS in the presence of autoagglutination.

Prospective observational study (September 2018 to October 2019).

University teaching hospital.

Forty anemic dogs receiving RBC transfusions.

None.

All dogs received DEA 1-negative packed RBCs. Three crossmatch methods were evaluated against the same unit transfused to each dog SL method performed at institutional laboratory (SL-I), SL method sent to a commercial laboratory (SL-C), and a commercially available point-of-care ICS method. Major and minor crossmatches were incompatible for 2.5%/7.5% of ICS tests, 82.5%/52.5% of SL-I tests, and 52.5%/27.5% of SL-C tests.Agreement between ICS and SL-C major (κ=0.05) and minor (κ=0.02) crossmatches and between ICS and SL-I major (κ=0.009) and minor (κ=0.03) crossmatches logies was noted. The high level of incompatibility predicted by SL methods despite lack of clinically relevant reactions suggests a high false incompatibility rate as compared to the ICS test. ICS testing was also able to give results more frequently in the face of autoagglutination. Further work is needed to investigate the ICS method's ability to predict clinically significant transfusion reactions.Purpose To evaluate glioblastoma (GBM) metabolism by using hyperpolarized carbon 13 (13C) MRI to monitor the exchange of the hyperpolarized 13C label between injected [1-13C]pyruvate and tumor lactate and bicarbonate. Materials and Methods In this prospective study, seven treatment-naive patients (age [mean ± SD], 60 years ± 11; five men) with GBM were imaged at 3 T by using a dual-tuned 13C-hydrogen 1 head coil. Hyperpolarized [1-13C]pyruvate was injected, and signal was acquired by using a dynamic MRI spiral sequence. Metabolism was assessed within the tumor, in the normal-appearing brain parenchyma (NABP), and in healthy volunteers by using paired or unpaired t tests and a Wilcoxon signed rank test. The Spearman ρ correlation coefficient was used to correlate metabolite labeling with lactate dehydrogenase A (LDH-A) expression and some immunohistochemical markers. The Benjamini-Hochberg procedure was used to correct for multiple comparisons. Results The bicarbonate-to-pyruvate (BP) ratio was lower in the tumor than in the contralateral NABP (P less then .01). The tumor lactate-to-pyruvate (LP) ratio was not different from that in the NABP (P = .38). The LP and BP ratios in the NABP were higher than those observed previously in healthy volunteers (P less then .05). Tumor lactate and bicarbonate signal intensities were strongly correlated with the pyruvate signal intensity (ρ = 0.92, P less then .001, and ρ = 0.66, P less then .001, respectively), and the LP ratio was weakly correlated with LDH-A expression in biopsy samples (ρ = 0.43, P = .04). Conclusion Hyperpolarized 13C MRI demonstrated variation in lactate labeling in GBM, both within and between tumors. In contrast, bicarbonate labeling was consistently lower in tumors than in the surrounding NABP. The interventional radiologist must weigh the advantages and disadvantages of various animal models available when testing a new local-regional therapy. This review highlights the currently available animal models for testing local-regional therapies for HCC and details the importance of considering animal genetics, tumor biology, and molecular mechanisms when ultimately choosing an animal model. The dysregulation of KDM4 functions is associated with many human disorders, including cancer, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases. Selective and potent KDM4 inhibitors may help not only to understand the role of KDM4 in these disorders but also to provide potential therapeutic opportunities. Here, we provide an overview of the field and discuss current status, challenges, and opportunities lying ahead in the development of KDM4-based anticancer therapeutics.Actinide complexes, which could enable the electrocatalytic H2O reduction, are not well documented because of the fact that actinide-containing catalysts are precluded by extremely stable actinyl species. Herein, by using relativistic density functional theory calculations, the arene-anchored trivalent actinide complexes (Me,MeArO)3ArAn (marked as [AnL]) with desirable electron transport between metal and ligand arene are investigated for H2 production. The metal center is changed from Ac to Pu. Electron-spin density calculations reveal a two-electron oxidative process (involving high-valent intermediates) for complexes [AnL] (An = P-Pu) along the catalytic pathway. JTZ-951 The electrons are provided by both the actinide metal and the arene ring of ligand. This is comparable to the previously reported uranium catalyst (Ad,MeArO)3mesU (Ad = adamantine and mes = mesitylene). From the thermodynamic and kinetic perspectives, [PaL] offers appreciably lower reaction energies for the overall catalytic cycle than other actinide complexes. Thus, the protactinium complex tends to be the most reactive for H2O reduction to produce H2 and has the advantage of its experimental accessibility.Objectives. To examine whether the #MeToo movement influenced depressive symptoms among women in South Korea with a history of experiencing sexual violence. Methods. We used data from a nationally representative sample (n = 4429) of women 19 to 50 years of age who participated in the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families between 2012 and 2019. A difference-in-differences model was used to estimate within-person changes in depressive symptoms attributable to the #MeToo movement across women with and without a history of experiencing sexual violence. Depressive symptoms were measured with the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CESD). Results. After adjustment for potential confounders, the #MeToo movement led to a 1.64 decrease in CESD scores among women with a history of experiencing sexual violence relative to women without such a history. Conclusions. Our findings suggest that the #MeToo movement in Korea led to reduced depressive symptoms among women with a history of experiencing sexual violence. Public Health Implications. Despite the progress of the #MeToo movement, there are still judicial and institutional problems that can revictimize sexual violence survivors. Further policy changes will likely improve the mental health of survivors. (Am J Public Health. 2022;112(9)1337-1345. https//doi.org/10.2105/AJPH.2022.306945).

To analyze the evidence available in the literature on the use of essential oils for healing and/or preventing infection in surgical wounds.

Systematic review according to the JBI model and PRISMA statement. The search was carried out in November/2020 and updated in December/2021, using descriptors and keywords, in the CINAHL, LILACS, CENTRAL, EMBASE, PUBMED, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. The quality of the evidence was assessed using the JBI critical appraisal tool for randomized controlled trials.

Five publications were included. Three studies evaluated healing and the presence of infection after episiotomy using the Redness-Edema-Ecchymosis-Discharge-Approximation (REEDA) scale; one study evaluated healing after periodontal surgery using the plaque index and Modified Gingival Index; the other four studies considered the presence of infection after episiotomy. Most studies used lavender oil, associated or not with other oils (80%). Two studies showed an improvement in healing. The infection outcome, although mentioned by 60% of studies, was not assessed as a primary outcome.
