Unprecedented opportunities for early stage cancer detection have recently emerged from the characterization of the personalized protein corona (PC), i.e., the protein cloud that surrounds nanoparticles (NPs) upon exposure to a patients' bodily fluids. Most of these methods require "direct characterization" of the PC., i.e., they necessitate protein isolation, identification, and quantification. Each of these steps can introduce bias and affect reproducibility and inter-laboratory consistency of experimental data. To fulfill this gap, here we develop a nanoparticle-enabled blood (NEB) test based on the indirect characterization of the personalized PC by magnetic levitation (MagLev). The MagLev NEB test works by analyzing the levitation profiles of PC-coated graphene oxide (GO) NPs that migrate along a magnetic field gradient in a paramagnetic medium. For the test validation, we employed human plasma samples from 15 healthy individuals and 30 oncological patients affected by four cancer types, namely breast cancer, prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Over the last 15 years prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, and PDAC have continuously been the second, third, and fourth leading sites of cancer-related deaths in men, while breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and PDAC are the second, third and fourth leading sites for women. This proof-of-concept investigation shows that the sensitivity and specificity of the MagLev NEB test depend on the cancer type, with the global classification accuracy ranging from 70% for prostate cancer to an impressive 93.3% for PDAC. We also discuss how this tool could benefit from several tunable parameters (e.g., the intensity of magnetic field gradient, NP type, exposure conditions, etc.) that can be modulated to optimize the detection of different cancer types with high sensitivity and specificity.Multifunctional nanocomposites that combine both magnetic and photoluminescent (PL) properties provide significant advantages for nanomedical applications. In this work, a one-stage synthesis of magneto-luminescent nanocomposites (MLNC) with subsequent stabilization is proposed. Microwave synthesis of magnetic carbon dots (M-CDs) was carried out using precursors of carbon dots and magnetic nanoparticles. The effect of stabilization on the morphological and optical properties of nanocomposites has been evaluated. Both types of nanocomposites demonstrate magnetic and PL properties simultaneously. The resulting MLNCs demonstrated excellent solubility in water, tunable PL with a quantum yield of up to 28%, high photostability, and good cytocompatibility. Meanwhile, confocal fluorescence imaging showed that M-CDs were localized in the cell nuclei. Consequently, the multifunctional nanocomposites M-CDs are promising candidates for bioimaging and therapy.High-performance temperature sensing is a key technique in modern Internet of Things. However, it is hard to attain a high precision while achieving a compact size for wireless sensing. Recently, metamaterials have been proposed to design a microwave, wireless temperature sensor, but precision is still an unsolved problem. By combining the high-quality factor (Q-factor) feature of a EIT-like metamaterial unit and the large temperature-sensing sensitivity performance of liquid metals, this paper designs and experimentally investigates an Hg-EIT-like metamaterial unit block for high figure-of-merit (FOM) temperature-sensing applications. A measured FOM of about 0.68 is realized, which is larger than most of the reported metamaterial-inspired temperature sensors.Nonenzymatic electrochemical detection of glucose is popular because of its low price, simple operation, high sensitivity, and good reproducibility. Co-Cu MOFs precursors were synthesized via the solvothermal way at first, and a series of porous spindle-like Cu-Co sulfide microparticles were obtained by secondary solvothermal sulfurization, which maintained the morphology of the MOFs precursors. Electrochemical studies exhibit that the as-synthesized Cu-Co sulfides own excellent nonenzymatic glucose detection performances. Compared with CuS, Co (II) ion-doped CuS can improve the conductivity and electrocatalytic activity of the materials. At a potential of 0.55 V, the as-prepared Co-CuS-2 modified electrode exhibits distinguished performance for glucose detection with wide linear ranges of 0.001-3.66 mM and high sensitivity of 1475.97 µA·mM-1·cm-2, which was much higher than that of CuS- and Co-CuS-1-modified electrodes. The constructed sulfide sensors derived from MOF precursors exhibit a low detection limit and excellent anti-interference ability for glucose detection. This work investigates mixed convection in a lid-driven cavity. This cavity is filled with nanofluid and subjected to a magnetic field. The concentric ovoid cavity orientation (γ),  0-90°, and undulation number (N), 1-4, are considered. The Richardson number (Ri) varies between 1 and 100. The nanofluid volume fraction (φ) ranges between 0 and 0.08%. The effect of the parameters on flow, thermal transport, and entropy generation is illustrated by the stream function, isotherms, and isentropic contours. Heat transfer is augmented and the Nusselt number rises with higher Ri, γ, N, and φ. (+)-Biocytin The simulations show that the heat transfer is responsible for entropy generation, while frictional and magnetic effects are marginal.Van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures based on two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), particularly WS2/MoS2 heterostructures with type-II band alignments, are considered as ideal candidates for future functional optoelectronic applications owing to their efficient exciton dissociation and fast charge transfers. These physical properties of vdW heterostructures are mainly influenced by the interlayer coupling occurring at the interface. However, a comprehensive understanding of the interlayer coupling in vdW heterostructures is still lacking. Here, we present a detailed analysis of the low-frequency (LF) Raman modes, which are sensitive to interlayer coupling, in bilayers of MoS2, WS2, and WS2/MoS2 heterostructures directly grown using chemical vapor deposition to avoid undesirable interfacial contamination and stacking mismatch effects between the monolayers. We clearly observe two distinguishable LF Raman modes, the interlayer in-plane shear and out-of-plane layer-breathing modes, which are dependent on the twisting angles and interface quality between the monolayers, in all the 2D bilayered structures, including the vdW heterostructure. In contrast, LF modes are not observed in the MoS2 and WS2 monolayers. These results indicate that our directly grown 2D bilayered TMDCs with a favorable stacking configuration and high-quality interface can induce strong interlayer couplings, leading to LF Raman modes. In recent years, lead selenide (PbSe) has gained considerable attention for its potential applications in optoelectronic devices. However, there are still some challenges in realizing mid-infrared detection applications with single PbSe film at room temperature. In this paper, we use a chemical bath deposition method to deposit PbSe thin films by varying deposition time. The effects of the deposition time on the structure, morphology, and optical absorption of the deposited PbSe films were investigated by x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and infrared spectrometer. In addition, in order to activate the mid-infrared detection capability of PbSe, we explored its application in infrared photodetection by improving its crystalline quality and photoconductivity and reducing tge noise and high dark current of PbSe thin films through subsequent iodine treatment. The iodine sensitization PbSe film showed superior photoelectric properties compared to the untreated sample, which exhibited the maximum of responsiveness, which is 30.27 A/W at 808 nm, and activated its detection ability in the mid-infrared (5000 nm) by introducing PbI2, increasing the barrier height of the crystallite boundary and carrier lifetimes. This facile synthesis strategy and the sensitization treatment process provide a potential experimental scheme for the simple, rapid, low-cost, and efficient fabrication of large-area infrared PbSe devices.Aluminum nanowires with irregular morphologies were prepared by template-free electrodeposition from a room-temperature chloroaluminate ionic liquid. The effects of the diffusion condition and deposition potential on the morphologies of Al nanowires were investigated. The decrease of diffusion flux leads to the formation of particular segmented morphologies of Al nanowires. A dynamic equilibrium between the electrochemical reaction and the diffusion of Al2Cl7- results in the current fluctuation and the periodical variation of diameters in the Al nanowires growth period. Al nanowires with several kinds of morphologies can be controllably electrodeposited under a restricted diffusion condition, without using a template. Increasing the overpotential shows the similar influence on the morphology of Al nanowires as the decrease in diffusion flux under the restricted diffusion condition. Most of the segmented Al nanowires have a single crystalline structure and grow in the [100] orientation. This work also provides a new strategy for the fabrication of nanowires with highly controllable irregular morphologies.Monitoring food quality throughout the food supply chain is critical to ensuring global food safety and minimizing food losses. Here we find that simply by mixing an aqueous solution of sugar-stabilized Ag+ and amines in an open vessel leads to the generation of Ag NPs and an intelligent evaluation system based on a colorimetric Ag+ probe is developed for real-time visual monitoring of food freshness. The self-assembly reaction between methylamine (MA) generated during meat storage and the colorimetric Ag+ probe produces different color changes that indicate changes in the quality of the meat. The colorimetric Ag+ probe was integrated into food packaging systems for real-time monitoring of chilled broiler meat freshness. The proposed evaluation system provides a versatile approach for detecting biogenic amines and monitoring chilled broiler meat freshness and it has the advantages of high selectivity, real-time and on-site measurements, sensitivity, economy, and safety and holds great public health significance.Friction and wear usually lead to huge energy loss and failure of machine pairs, which usually causes great economic losses. Researchers have made great efforts to reduce energy dissipation and enhance durability through advanced lubrication technologies. Single-layer coatings have been applied in many sectors of engineering, but the performance of single-layer coatings still has many limitations. One solution to overcome these limitations is to use a multilayer coating that combines different components with varied physical and chemical properties. In addition, multilayer coating with alternating layers only containing two components can lead to improved performance compared to a coating with only two different layers. This paper systematically reviews the design concept and properties of different types of multilayer coatings, including transition-metal nitride coatings, diamond-like carbon-based coatings, and other multilayer coatings. The inherent functional mechanisms of the multilayer structures are also detailed and discussed.
