Periodontal disease has been linked to the development of Alzheimer's disease in people. It is theorized that the chronic inflammatory condition characteristic of oral dysbiosis in patients with periodontal disease leads to disruption of the blood-brain barrier, cytotoxin- and pathogen-induced brain damage, and accumulation of neurotoxic β-amyloid. In this inflammatory theory of Alzheimer's disease, β-amyloid-a known antimicrobial protein-accumulates in response to oral pathogens. Canine cognitive dysfunction (CCD) is considered a naturally occurring animal model of human Alzheimer's disease. Like humans, periodontal disease is quite common in dogs; however, a link between periodontal disease and cognitive dysfunction has not been identified in this species.

The purpose of this prospective investigation was to compare visual periodontal scores (from digital oral photographs) with numerical (0-54) cognitive assessment questionnaire forms in aging dogs with and without a clinical diagnosis of CCD.

Local, segmental (spinal), and suprasegmental (brain) effects of acupuncture involve enhanced release of pain-relieving endogenous substances (e.g., opioids) and mitigated release of pain-inducing substances (e.g., inflammatory cytokines). In addition, there is evidence that acupuncture can induce positive neurochemical and cytoarchitectural change in the central nervous system via the phenomenon of neuroplasticity. Electroacupuncture is considered the most effective type of acupuncture delivery, allowing for more potent and long-lasting pain relief than is achieved via other methods (e.g., dry needling). The purpose of this review article is to summarize the relevant scientific literature from the last two decades relating to the physiological mechanisms of action of acupuncture as a pain-relieving modality.Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent, which is defined by their ability to self-renew while maintaining the capacity to differentiate into a certain number of cells, presumably from their own germinal layer. MSCs therapy is based on their anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory (immunosuppressive), and regenerative potential. This review aims to provide a clinical overview of the MSCs potential as a therapeutic option for orthopedic diseases in dogs. A total of 25 clinical studies published in the scientific literature in the last 15 years on various diseases will be presented semitendinosus myopathy, supraspinatus tendinopathy, cruciate ligament rupture, bone fractures and defects, and also osteoarthritis (OA). All articles involved in this study include only diseases that have naturally occurred in canine patients. MSCs therapy in the veterinary orthopedic field has great potential, especially for OA. All studies presented promising results. However, MSCs bone healing capacity did not reveal such favorable outcomes in the long term. Besides, most of these clinical studies did not include immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and histopathology to confirm that MSCs have differentiated and incorporated into the injured tissues. This review summarizes the current knowledge of canine MSCs biology, immunology, and clinical application in canine orthopedic diseases. Despite the positive results in its use, there is still a lack of defined protocols, heterogeneous samples, and concomitant medications used with MSCs therapy compromising therapeutic effects. Further studies are needed in the hope of overcoming its limitation in upcoming trials.

Camel is vital to daily life as a source of food and means of transportation, and just as importantly, its milk and urine have been used as medicine for diverse ailments since ancient times for people living in the desert region.

The current study was planned to investigate the effect of different watering regimes on physiological and hematological parameters of lactating Marecha camels during the summer season.

For this purpose, 12 lactating she-camels of almost similar age (8-13 years) and parity (2-5) were selected in a completely randomized design with four animals per treatment at the Camel Breeding and Research Station Rakh Mahni District Bhakkar. The trial was completed in 60 days, while 7 days were given as an acclimatization period for adaptation. The treatments were as follows Group-1 (G-1) considered as the control had access to water once in a day; Group-2 (G-2) had access to water once in 4 days, and Group-3 (G-3) had access to water once in 6 days. Animals were housed individually for feeding and watering in an intensive management system. The same feed consisting of green fodder (

) and gram straw (

) was offered to all animals. The average ambient temperature and relative humidity were 39°C-41°C and 55%-63%, respectively.

The mean values (

< 0.001) of water intake were found to be 82.94 ± 1.34 l in G-3, which was higher than G-1 and G-2. Blood analysis showed that packed cell volume, white blood cells, and hemoglobin were affected significantly (

< 0.001,

< 0.01, and

< 0.05, respectively).

Stearoyl gemcitabine (GemC18)-incorporated, acid-sensitive micelles (G-AS-M) prepared with a stearoyl polyethylene glycol (PEG2000) hydrazone were surface-mannosylated in this study for potential targeted killing of tumor cells and TAMs. The surface mannosylated micelles (i.e. G-MAS-M) were significantly more cytotoxic than the G-AS-M micelles to macrophages and tumor cells that express CLRs. Surprisingly, the uptake of GemC18 in the mannosylated G-MAS-M micelles by the macrophages and tumor cells was lower than that of GemC18 in the G-AS-M micelles. The lack of correlation between the cytoxicity and cellular uptake of GemC18 in the micelles was likely caused by a reduction in the sensitivity of the hydrazone bond linking the PEG2000 to the mannosylated G-MAS-M micelles to hydrolysis, resulting in more stable micelles.Dental caries continues to occur in both children and adults worldwide resulting in significant economic burden, and consumers have expressed interest in natural products that can prevent these recurrent infections. In this study, S. thermophilus B59671, which produces thermophilin 110, was shown to inhibit the growth of S. mutans UA159. A thermophilin concentration ≥ 80 AU ml-1 prevented the growth of S. mutans UA159 in batch culture, while ≥ 160 AU ml-1 was required to prevent biofilm growth. Co-culturing S. thermophilus B59671 and S. mutans UA159 also resulted in impaired biofilm growth. Thermophillin 110 was also shown inhibit additional S. mutans strains and commensal oral streptococci at higher concentrations (640-1280 AU ml-1). These results suggest that thermophilin 110 could be used as a natural antimicrobial in oral care products and support the need for additional studies to assess the probiotic potential of S. thermophilus B59671.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced a new look (or modernization) for both the obligations and approaches to achieve best-practices in global health learning. These best-practices have moved beyond traditional, face-to-face (F2F), classroom-based didactics to the use of innovative online, asynchronous and synchronous instructional design and the information and communication technology (ICT) tools to support it. But moving to this higher level of online in-service and pre-service training, key obligations (e.g., stopping neocolonialization, cultural humility, reversing brain drain, gender equity) must guide the modernization of instructional design and the supporting ICT. We describe a set of multi-communication methods, e-Learning principles, strategies, and ICT approaches for educators to pivot content delivery from traditional, F2F classroom didactics into the modern era. These best-practices in both the obligationstly and effectively.Despite comprising 70% of the health workforce, women fill only 25% of senior and 5% of top health organization positions. Greater diversity in global health leadership, particularly greater representation of women, is essential to ensure diverse perspectives and ideas inform policies and priorities. Interviews and literature reviews surfaced many of the key challenges that women in global health face at individual, organizational and societal levels. Initiatives working to advance women's leadership are encouraged to consider 5 key priorities that address these challenges.

Partnerships are essential to creating effective global health leadership training programs. Global pandemics, including the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and more recently the COVID-19 pandemic, have tested the impact and stability of healthcare systems. Partnerships must be fostered to prepare the next generation of leaders to collaborate effectively and improve health globally.

We provide key matrices that predict success of partnerships in building global health leadership capacity. NMS-873 We highlight opportunities and challenges to building effective partnerships and provide recommendations to promote development of equitable and mutually beneficial partnerships.

This paper seeks to present a critical analysis of the competency gaps among participants of a single global health training program.

This is a cross-sectional observational study conducted during the implementation of the Sustaining Technical and Analytical Resources (STAR) project from May 1, 2018 to May 31, 2020. We utilized descriptive statistics to analyze the baseline competency assessment of STAR participants using a customized framework that was developed for the program.
