The authors explored the existence of explicit definitions, guiding competency frameworks, and learning theory to inform health professions education faculty development (FD) programs. The authors analyzed identified frameworks based on thematic focus, scope of targeted faculty, and design structure.

A scoping review was used to identify health professions education literature between 2005 and 2020. Frameworks were characterized according to the scope of the faculty targeted and design structure, and then, domains were grouped into topical categories for analysis.

Twenty-three articles met the criteria for data extraction, of which only one (4.3%) described the explicit use of a learning theory and three (13%) included an explicit definition of FD. One (4.3%) used a recognized framework, whereas 12 (52.2%) developed a novel framework based on an existing outline. Ten (43.5%) described de novo framework development. Only three (13.0%) used entrustable professional activities or similar constructs. Five (21.7%) programs targeted multiple health professions, 11 (47.8%) targeted a single health profession, and seven (30.5%) targeted a specific specialty within a health profession. Only two frameworks included a developmental component.

Faculty with a career focus on education in the health professions often have difficulty representing their academic accomplishments for due consideration in promotion decisions at their respective institutions. This problem occurs because the traditional curriculum vitae (CV) format which is most often used tends to focus on peer-reviewed accomplishments easily presented in lists, such as grants and publications. In some institutions, an educator portfolio is required in place of or in addition to the CV. However, creating or reviewing such a narrative-oriented document takes large amounts of time-time that most faculty or reviewers do not have. Having to use an educator portfolio also calls out the educator as different from the traditional research faculty member. To address this problem, we propose the solution of an Enhanced CV. The Enhanced CV includes much of what is presented in an educator portfolio but in a format closer to the traditional CV. Unlike a traditional CV, the Enhanced CV includes catef presenting their accomplishments for promotions. The lessons learned from these institutions illustrate how the Enhanced CV can increase the ability of educators to present their accomplishments and advance in rank in their academic careers.

Rapid and accurate detection of the novel coronavirus using a nasopharyngeal specimen requires training for professionals who may have limited experience. To respond to the urgent need, an interprofessional team created a just-in-time (JIT) module to provide only what was needed, precisely when needed, and rapidly deployed training sessions to a large group of health professionals.

In April and May 2020, health professionals from the hospital, ambulatory clinics, and public health attended training. Procedural comfort/knowledge and perception of the training were assessed with pre-survey and post-survey.

Comfort level in collecting a nasopharyngeal specimen among participating health professionals increased from 2.89 (n = 338) on the pre-survey to 4.51 (n = 300) on the postsurvey on a 5-point scale. Results revealed a significant difference (P < .01) between pre-post knowledge questions regarding the correct angle and depth of the swab to obtain an adequate sample from the nasopharynx.

After institutional review board approval of the study, an email survey was sent to anesthesiologists in one anesthesiology department to assess mentorship status. A survey link was sent to nonrespondents at 2 weeks and 4 weeks. All participants were deidentified. The identification of a mentor was compared by gender, academic rank, and years of practice.

Among 233 anesthesiologists, 103 (44.2%) responded to the survey. More than 90% of survey respondents agreed or strongly agreed that having a mentor is important to career success. Of the 103 respondents, 31 (30%) indicated they had a mentor. Overall, 84% of the identified mentors were men; however, this percentage differed significantly between men and women respondents (95% versus 60%; P = .03). Characteristics associated with having a mentor included younger age (P = .007), fewer years since finishing training (P = .004), and working full time (P = .02). For respondent age and years since finishing training, there was some evidence that the association was dependent on the gender of the respondent (age-by-gender interaction, P = .08; experience-by-gender interaction, P = .08).

The aim of the study was to appraise the current evidence on the optimal serum level for lamotrigine (LAM) in the treatment of mood disorders (major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder).

Major databases were searched for randomized controlled trials, open-label trials, and observational studies reporting serum LAM levels in adult patients treated with LAM for mood disorders.

A total of 814 abstracts were screened and 24 articles were selected for full-text review. Seven studies (226 bipolar disorder and 17 major depressive disorder patients) including 1 randomized controlled trial (n = 43), 3 prospective (n = 53), and 3 retrospective (n = 147) studies met the study criteria with a study duration range from 6 to 96 weeks. Lamotrigine daily dosage varied from 25 to 425 mg/d among the studies. Studies reported inconsistent findings between LAM concentration and efficacy. This research aims to implement an automated scheme to detect TB infection in chest radiographs (X-ray) using a chosen Deep-Learning (DL) approach. The primary objective of the proposed scheme is to attain better classification accuracy while detecting TB in X-ray images. The proposed scheme consists of the following phases namely, (1) image collection and pre-processing, (2) feature extraction with pre-trained VGG16 and VGG19, (3) Mayfly-algorithm (MA) based optimal feature selection, (4) serial feature concatenation and (5) binary classification with a 5-fold cross validation. In this work, the performance of the proposed DL scheme is separately validated for (1) VGG16 with conventional features, (2) VGG19 with conventional features, (3) VGG16 with optimal features, (4) VGG19 with optimal features and (5) concatenated dual-deep-features (DDF). The data of US-FNA and ACR TI-RADS are collected from 159 patients underwent thyroid surgery in our hospital, which include a total of 178 thyroid nodules. A Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology category of ≥IV and an ACR TI-RADS category ≥4 are regarded as diagnosis standards for malignancy in US-FNA and ACR TI-RADS, respectively. The pathological results after surgery are considered as the gold standard. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of the ACR TI-RADS, US-FNA and the combination of both methods for the differential diagnosis of thyroid nodules are calculated, respectively.

The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of ACR TI-RADS are 85.
