Compared to biparentally reared controls (BPC), male offspring reared in mother only (MON) and maternal-plus-alloparental (MPA) conditions show lower densities of OXTR in the central amygdala; and MPA males show lower densities of OXTR in the caudate putamen and nucleus accumbens. Early-life experience was not associated with differences in AVPR1a density in males. However, MON and MPA females show greater densities of AVPR1a in the medial amygdala than BPC; and MPA females show greater densities of AVPR1a in the ventromedial nucleus of the hypothalamus. We also demonstrate with corticosterone concentrations that MON and MPA offspring are not differentially susceptible to a stressor (ie, social isolation) than BPC offspring. These findings suggest that paternal absence, although likely not a salient early-life stressor, has neuroendocrine consequences for offspring, some of which may affect partner preference formation.

Concurrent vasculopathic lesions in dogs with pemphigus foliaceus (PF) have been observed anecdotally yet not reported in the literature. Any association with prognosis is unclear.

To compare clinical features and outcome of PF in dogs with and without vasculopathic lesions.

Archived, formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded biopsy samples of 41 dogs with PF.

Archived, formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded biopsy samples with a histological diagnosis of PF were selected and re-evaluated independently. Dogs were assigned to groups following histological evaluation Group 1 (no vasculopathic lesions) and Group 2 (vasculopathic lesions present). Group 2 was subdivided into Group 2a (vasculopathic lesions without vasculitis - i.e. vasculopathy) and Group 2b (overt vasculitis). Medical records from identified cases were reviewed retrospectively for data on clinical presentation, treatment and outcome.

Time to remission was longer in Group 2b (93.8 days) compared to Group 1 (41.8 days) (P=0.047). Dogs in groups 2a and 2b were more likely to have systemic signs of illness at presentation (P=0.028 and P=0.032, respectively) compared to Group 1. Dogs in Group 2b were more likely to have adverse effects associated with treatment than dogs in Group 1 (P=0.004). There were no significant differences in lesion type, distribution, rates of remission, recurrence or corticosteroid dosage between groups.

Herein, we introduce a metal complex bearing bidentate disilicate ligands, -OSi(Ot Bu)2 OSi(Ot Bu)2 O-, as a molecular precursor, which has a silicate framework adjacent to the metal (Pt) center. The grafting of the precursors on silica supports (MCM-41 and CARiACT Q10) proceeded through a substitution reaction on the silicon atoms of the disilicate ligand, which was verified by the detection of isobutene and t BuOH as the elimination products, to selectively yield bis-grafted surface species. The path model also estimated the indirect effects from both partners' stressful childhood experiences to relationship satisfaction through accepting influence. Female spouses' stressful childhood experiences were associated with their perceptions of male partners' accepting influence, which, in turn, was associated with both partners' relationship satisfaction, demonstrating partial mediation. Military couples, as well as other couples in stressful contexts, may benefit from interventions that address how prior family experiences impact current accepting influence processes. Luliconazole (LCZ) is an imidazole antifungal medication that exhibits excellent activity against dermatophytes. As a topical cream and lotion (approved for human use), LCZ has demonstrated a broad spectrum of activity against human dermatophytoses.

This is the first study to investigate the in vitro susceptibility of clinical isolates from horse dermatophytoses to LCZ.

In the present study, the in vitro susceptibilities of clinical isolates of dermatophytes to LCZ, clotrimazole (CTZ), miconazole (MCZ) and terbinafine (TRF) were investigated using the Clinical & Laboratory Standards Institute M38-A2 test.

The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) for all 16 clinical isolates of Trichophyton equinum, Microsporum equinum/canis and M.gypseum for LCZ were <0.03mg/L. The MICs of all isolates were <0.03-0.5mg/L for CTZ, 0.03-16mg/L for MCZ and <0.03-1mg/L for TRF.

Despite scientific advances, there is no effective medical therapy for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of convalescent plasma therapy in COVID-19.

This review was carried out in accordance with Cochrane methodology including risk of bias assessment and grading of the quality of evidence. Only prospective clinical trials randomly assigning COVID-19 patients to convalescent plasma plus standard of care therapy (test arm) versus placebo/standard of care (control arm) were included. Two reviewers independently read each preprint/publication and extracted relevant data from individual studies. Data were pooled using the random-effects model and expressed as risk ratio (RR) with 95% confidence interval (CI).

A total of 13 206 patients from 12 randomised controlled trials were included. There was no significant difference in clinical improvement rate (RR=1.00, 95% CI 0.98-1.02, p=0.96) or time to clinical improvement (median difference of 1.08 days with 95% CI ranging from -0.15 to +2.30 days) between convalescent plasma versus placebo/standard of care therapy. The use of convalescent plasma was not associated with significantly reduced risk of death (RR=0.81, 95% CI 0.65-1.02, p=0.08). Reassuringly, overall incidence of infusion-related serious adverse events was low (3.25%) and not significantly different (RR=1.14, 95% CI 0.93-1.40, p=0.22) for convalescent plasma transfusion compared to placebo/standard of care therapy.

Primary extrahepatic malignancy and chronic liver disease co-exist in a considerable number of patients, creating a dilemma both in the aspects of liver transplant candidacy and cancer therapy. In this review, we will explore several aspects and controversies of liver transplantation in patients with non-hepatocellular carcinoma malignancy including risks of cancer recurrence after liver transplantation and the ethical dilemma of the selection of liver transplantation candidates with non-hepatic malignancy.

We performed a search in several online databases and reviewed published articles and ongoing clinical trials in the topics of transplantation and pre-existing malignancies.

Liver transplantation can be safely performed in selected patients with pre-existing extrahepatic malignancies with low recurrence rate if they have an expected 5-year survival rate of at least 50%. The cancer-free period before transplantation depends on the type, stage, and location of cancer. A shorter or no wait-time may be considered in an early stage cancer or carcinoma in situ.
