An increasing number of patients in hospital have diabetes, with most of them cared for by non-specialist staff. The effect of diabetes education for staff on patient outcomes, as well as the most effective method of staff education is unclear. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare diabetes outcomes in medical wards where nursing staff were offered one face-to-face (F2F) session followed by access to online education (online), F2F education only, or standard care (control).

We conducted a pilot cluster randomised controlled trial involving 16-weeks baseline/rollout followed by a 28-week post-intervention period across three medical wards (clusters) in a Sydney Teaching Hospital. The online ward provided an online competency-based diabetes education program and 1-h F2F teaching from a diabetes nurse educator (DNE), the F2F ward provided four separate 1-h teaching sessions by a DNE, with no additional sessions in the control ward. The primary outcome was length of stay (LOS); secondary outcomes ingistry (ANZCTR) on 24/05/2017 ACTRN12617000762358 .

The sense of coherence is developed through the learning process and contributes to the positioning of individuals in the health-disease continuum, facilitating successful and adaptive personal outcomes. Health-related behaviours represent a health determinant of utmost importance for public health and the development of adolescent and youth health promotion policies, as they are related to the main risk factors and problems of morbidity and mortality in our society. Previous studies have analysed the relationship between sense of coherence and only some individual health outcomes such as oral health, the relationship of sense of coherence with smoking and alcohol consumption, concluding that salutogenic factors are related to quality of life and preventive behaviours. The aim of this systematic review was to describe the relationship of sense of coherence with different health-related behaviours investigated so far in the adolescent and youth population.

A systematic review was carried out in databases (health behaviours both as a protective factor against risk behaviours and for its positive association with preventive and health promoting behaviours of adolescents, young adults and university students.

Although paying more attention to sex education in patients with severe mental illness is recommended in the literature, the role of families has not been specifically clarified.  AIM This study aims to explore family knowledge about sexual health in patients with severe mental illness in Iran.

We conducted a total number of 21 interviews with 4 patients, 5 families, 7 psychiatrists, 1 general practitioner, 2 nurses, and 2 psychologists through purposive sampling. The text was analyzed using conventional qualitative content analysis.

The family knowledge about patients' sexual health is described in three subcategories 'informal sources for knowledge acquisition', 'common myths, and 'inappropriate reaction to the patients' needs".

Family sex education should be integrated into a comprehensive rehabilitation program to promote sexual health in patients with severe mental illness. Family members should be aware of the necessity of accurate information about patients' sexual concerns.

The syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone is a disorder characterized by the excess release of antidiuretic hormone and can result in hyponatremia. If managed inappropriately, severe hyponatremia can cause seizures, cerebral edema, and even death. There are various known causes of this inappropriate release of antidiuretic hormone, including malignancy, CNS disorders, and disturbances in the hypothalamic-pituitary-renal axis. However, reports of syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone after brachytherapy for prostate cancer are exceedingly rare.

We report a case of symptomatic hyponatremia secondary to the inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone after prostate high-dose rate brachytherapy under general anesthesia in a patient with adenocarcinoma of the prostate.

In rare instances, inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone can occur after high-dose rate brachytherapy for prostate cancer. The cause is likely multifactorial, involving pain or discomfort ensuing from the surgical procedure, the general anesthesia or intraoperative drugs administered. However, due to the potential severity of the side effects, timely diagnosis is crucial to ensure prompt, and effective management.

Good quality of care (QOC) is related to high recovery rates, fewer mistakes, and better outcomes in general. The perception of the nursing profession (NP) among nurses has many social and professional implications, and it is important to understand the implications regarding their QOC. The aim of the study was to examine whether there is a relationship between the self-image of nursing and the nurses' QOC, and whether men and women differ in their nursing image (NI).

A cross-sectional study applied among nursing teams employed in various inpatient wards An online questionnaire was distributed and included (1) Sociodemographic details; (2) Image of the nursing profession; and (3) Nurses' perception of their nursing care quality.

The results show a significant positive relationship between the NI perception among nurses and their perceptions of the QOC they provide. No sex differences were found between male and female nurses.

This study highlights the correlation between the NP's self-image and self-reported QOC. Health policy makers should build national programs that improve the image of nursing among nursing teams, and create an empowering and positive working environment, which would most probably improve the quality of nursing care.

News coverage around vaping-related events may have furthered misconceptions regarding the relative harms of vapes. Such information may influence the decisions of individuals who smoke, around switching to vaping, potentially affecting the overall tobacco mortality burden. Thus, it is prudent to study how news events (e.g., 2019 vaping illness epidemic) are associated with vape sales in the United States, to possibly reduce the tobacco mortality burden.

We used weekly retail sales data for e-cigarettes (30 December 2018 - 28 December 2019) from the US retail scanner data compiled by the Nielsen Company. We used an interrupted time series design with segmented regression analysis to determine immediate and longer-term impacts of individual news events (e.g. Trump administration's planned ban on some flavored vaping products) on vape sales, controlling for pre-existing trends.

Unexpectedly, we noted a statistically significant positive relationship between vape sales and the CDC announcing an investigation into vaping-related illnesses (Change 6.59%, Estimate 0.066; 95% CI 0.036, 0.092; P < 0.001). We also observed a similar positive association between vape sales and the CDC's announcement on the link between Vitamin E acetate and EVALI (Change 2.93%, Estimate 0.029; 95% CI 0.003, 0.055; P < 0.05). There was a steep decline in sales after these events.

News events may be associated with US vape sales. Findings have implications for the management of risk perceptions around vaping to improve health outcomes of tobacco users. Information-based policy instruments can be applied to balance the effects of news events that may influence vape sales.

Variable manifestation of the pathology across individuals, coupled with differing mechanics and treatments, leads to a heterogeneous collection of clinical phenotypes that affect muscles and individuals differently. Growth of muscles in CP deviates from typical development, evident as early as 15 months of age. Muscles in CP may be reduced in volume by as much as 40%, may be shorter in length, present longer tendons, and may have fewer sarcomeres in series that are overstretched compared to typical. Macroscale and functional deficits are likely mediated by dysfunction at the cellular level, which manifests as impaired growth. Within muscle fibres, satellite cells are decreased by as much as 40-70% and the regenerative capacity of remaining satellite cells appears compromised. Impaired muscle regeneration in CP is coupled with extracellular matrix expansion and increased pro-inflammatory gene expression; resultant muscles are smaller, stiffer, and weaker than typical muscle. These differences may contribute to individuals with CP participating in less physical activity, thus decreasing opportunities for mechanical loading, commencing a vicious cycle of muscle disuse and secondary sarcopenia. This narrative review describes the effects of CP on skeletal muscles encompassing substantive changes from whole muscle function to cell-level effects and the effects of common treatments. We discuss growth and mechanics of skeletal muscles in CP and propose areas where future work is needed to understand these interactions, particularly the link between neural insult and cell-level manifestation of CP.

Medical disorders in patients with bipolar disorder (BD) have attracted more and more attention. So far, there is still a lack of studies on this issue utilizing large sample sizes in the Chinese sample. Therefore, we conducted this study to explore the clinical characteristics of BD patients comorbid medical disorders in a relatively large Chinese sample.

This was a cross-sectional study including 1,393 BD patients (882 patients with medical disorders and 511 patients without medical disorders). Their demographic and clinical characteristics were obtained by the Hospital Information System and self-designed questionnaires.

The comorbidity rate of medical disorders in BD was 63.32%. The average number of medical disorders for a BD patient was 2.69. The top five comorbid medical disorders in BD patients were circulatory system diseases (19%), nervous system diseases (18%), endocrine and metabolic diseases (17%), digestive system diseases (16%), and respiratory system diseases (8%). BD patients with comorbid medical disorders had an older average age, lower education level, longer illness course, later onset age, lower ratio of psychotic features, more admission numbers, higher ratio of smoking and drinking alcohol, more number of manic episodes (All P < 0.
