Density functional theory studies of model systems of GaOxNy-modified TiO2 confirm the band gap reduction, high reducibility and ability to activate water. The highly efficient and stable systems of TiO2@GaOxNy core-shell nanowires with ALD deposited GaOxNy demonstrate a good strategy for the fabrication of core-shell structures that enhance the photoelectrochemical performance of readily available photoanodes.Correction for 'Ionic-caged heterometallic bismuth-platinum complex exhibiting electrocatalytic CO2 reduction' by Takefumi Yoshida et al., Dalton Trans., 2020, 49, 2652-2660.Designing new semiconductors with an extremely low thermal conductivity is of considerable significance. In this study, we successfully synthesized a new semiconductor SrOCuBiSe2 with an intrinsically low thermal conductivity via the molten salt method. It possesses a typical multicomponent layered structure which is composed of alternatively stacked [CuBiSe2] (electronic conduction unit, ECU) and [SrO] (electronic insulation unit, EIU) layers. Its intrinsically low thermal conductivity (κ = 0.45 W m-1 K-1 at 700 K) is attributed to the dual effects of high atomic displacement parameter and extremely large Grüneisen parameter, which are caused by rattling vibration of Cu atoms and lone-pair electrons of Bi atoms, respectively. Such knowledge highlights the importance of lone-pair electrons in impelling the phonon anharmonicity and multicomponent structure design concept, providing a stepping stone to the design of new semiconductors with a low thermal conductivity.NiCr2-xFexO4 (x = 0 and 0.2) polycrystalline ceramics have been synthesized successfully through a simple co-precipitation technique to study the evolution of structural and magnetic properties by doping Fe. X-ray diffraction (XRD) reveals that the high-temperature cubic phase (space group Fd3[combining macron]m) observed at 320 K in bulk NiCr2O4 is stabilized at room temperature by decreasing the particle size to nanometer in x = 0 as well as after incorporating 20 at% Fe in the NiCr2O4 lattice. The cation distribution obtained from X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) analysis illustrates that while in x = 0, Ni2+ and Cr3+ ions occupy the tetrahedral (A) and octahedral (B) sites, respectively, x = 0.2, Fe3+ and Cr3+ ions occupy the A and B sites, respectively, and Ni2+ ions are distributed among the A and B sites. This transformation from the normal to mixed spinel structure strongly affects the magnetic properties. While the paramagnetic to long-range ferrimagnetic ordering temperature TC is enhanced froin the NiCr2O4 lattice, TS significantly increases from 28 K to 50 K.A micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) based technique is demonstrated for in situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) measurements of stress relaxation with simultaneous observation of the underlying plastic deformation processes. True activation volumes are determined from repeated stress relaxation transients and thus provide a signature parameter of the governing mechanisms of plastic deformation. The technique is demonstrated with 100 nm-thick ultrafine-grained gold microspecimens under uniaxial tension. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/benzylpenicillin-potassium.html True activation volumes of approximately 3-5b3 (where b is the Burgers vector length) are obtained for tensile stresses ranging from 200-450 MPa. Grain boundary-dislocation interactions are observed via in situ TEM during stress relaxation measurements. The miniaturization of stress relaxation tests inside the TEM provides unique opportunities to characterize the plastic kinetics and underlying mechanisms in ultrafine-grained and nanocrystalline materials.A water-soluble host molecule can bind tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC) and its metabolites in aqueous solution. By pairing this recognition event in a sensing array with fluorescent reporters and varying external mediators, pattern recognition-based detection is possible, which allows selective discrimination of the THC metabolites. The selective sensing can be performed in aqueous solution with micromolar sensitivity, as well as in biofluids such as urine and saliva. Metabolites as similar as Δ8- and Δ9-THC, differing only in the position of a double bond, can be distinguished.Hydrazines represent a class of compounds of high interest due to their applicability as versatile starting materials in many important transformations. Herein, we report a synthetic approach to hydrazine derivatives using commercially available anilines and an anodic dehydrogenative N-N coupling reaction as the key step.BACKGROUND Pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) presents with extensive phenotype. The aim of this study was to determine the phenotype of pediatric IBD patients in Croatia at diagnosis and follow-up. METHODS Children were prospectively recruited into Croatian IBD national registry. Data on diagnostic evaluation, therapy and 1-year follow-up were collected. RESULTS A total of 51 newly diagnosed patients were recruited (19 Crohn's disease (CD), 28 ulcerative colitis (UC) and 4 IBD-unclassified (IBD-U)). Most common location in CD was ileocolonic disease (52.6%), and pancolitis in UC (53.6%). The recommended complete diagnostic algorithm was performed only in 29.4% of patients. First-line therapy used in CD was exclusive enteral nutrition for remission induction (84.2%) and azathioprine for maintenance (73.7%). In patients with UC, aminosalicylates were the most common drug used (89.3%). By the end of the first year 41.2% of CD and 53.9% of UC patients had one or more relapses and required treatment escalation. CONCLUSION Our data confirm extensive intestinal involvement in pediatric IBD and relatively high relapse rate during the first year of follow-up. More effort should be invested on the national level to implement more stringent adherence to the current European guidelines. IMPACT The key message of our article is that pediatric IBD in Croatia shows extensive intestinal involvement with high relapse rates in first year of follow-up. It is the first cohort study reporting on the phenotype of pediatric IBD in Croatia, but also investigates adherence to diagnostic and therapeutic European guidelines which is not commonly reported. The study is national based, thus having the greatest impact on Croatian health care, stressing out that more effort should be invested on the national level to implement more stringent adherence to the current European guidelines.
