excess body weight among adolescents is on the increase and has become a global public health challenge. It is likely to persist to adulthood, exposing to risk of developing chronic diseases. However, there is insufficient information on the prevalence of excess body weight and associated factors among adolescent girls in secondary schools in northern Tanzania.

this cross-sectional study involved 400 secondary school adolescent girls, selected by multi-stage cluster sampling. A self-administered questionnaire was used to gather information. Anthropometric measurements were taken and body mass index calculated. Descriptive statistics summarized the data. Logistic regression was used to model excess body weight resulting into adjusted odds ratios with their 95% confidence intervals and significant level was set at p-value<0.05.

the proportion of adolescents with excess body weight (BMI >+1SD) was 23%. The majority (63%), reported unhealthy dietary habits while half (51.5%) of them had moderate level recommend platforms to inform adolescents on the importance of proper food intake and to advance knowledge on dangers of excessive weight gain as a strategy towards prevention of nutrition-related diseases.Mikulicz's disease is a unique condition involving the enlargement of the lacrimal and salivary glands, similar to that observed in Sjogren's syndrome; however, Mikulicz's disease is clinically characterized by infrequent autoimmune reactions and responsiveness to glucocorticoid treatment. The ultrasound features of the lacrimal and salivary glands in patients with IgG4-Mikulicz's disease were characterized by multiple hypoechoic areas of varying sizes within the enlarged glands. IgG4 serum level was also elevated, in contrast to the detection of normal levels in Sjogren's syndrome. In this article, we intended to illustrate a case of Mikulicz's disease with clinical and imaging features.

the purpose of this study was to measure thyroid volumes among normal sub-population of Ghanaians using ultrasonography in order to help provide preliminary local thyroid gland volume reference data for use in Ghana.

this was a cross-sectional study in which the thyroid glands of 320 normal adults aged 18 to 95 years from six (6) communities in the Assin North District of Ghana were examined using ultrasonography. The volumes of the left and right lobes were summed to constitute the total thyroid volume. Information on socio-demographic characteristics and anthropometric parameters of subjects were also collected. The data were summarized using mean, standard deviation and proportions, whilst inferential analysis was done using the T-test, ANOVA test and Pearson correlation.

of the 320 adults examined, 284 (88.8%) were found to have normal thyroid glands. This consisted of 164 females and 120 males whose mean ages were 42.3 (±15.9) years and 45.4 (±15.9) years respectively. The overall mean total thyroid volume (MTTV) was 6.8±2.5 mL. This was greater in the males (7.1±2.7 mL) than in the females (6.6±2.2 mL). The MTTVs for three age groups; 30-39 years (7.1±2.1), 40-49 years (7.3±2.8 mL) and 50-59 years (7.1±3.0 mL) were greater than the overall MTTV. Thyroid volume had a positive correlation with body surface area (BSA) (r=0.119, p=0.046), but not with body mass index (BMI) (r=-0.021, p=0.719).

this study estimated local reference values much lower than the WHO/ICCIDD thyroid volume reference values. This calls for the need for nationally representative studies to inform the establishment of standard local reference values for Ghana.

type 2 diabetes is a very common condition which, in some patients, may cause erectile dysfunction. The purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence and severity of erectile dysfunction in patients with type 2 diabetes attending the Department of Urology.

we conducted a cross-sectional and descriptive study in the Department of Urology at the University Hospital Center Hassan II in Fez using a self-administered questionnaire encompassing an "International Index of Erectile Function-5" test based on 5 questions with routine blood test results in diabetic patients.

a total of 96 anonymous questionnaires were distributed over a 12-month period. The average age of patients was 53.5 years, 35% (n=34) of them were active smokers. Diabetes had progressed for over 10 years in 54% (n=52) of cases. Three patients were treated with diet alone, 32% (n=31) with oral antidiabetic drugs, 31% (n=30) with insulin therapy alone and 31% (n=30) with insulin and oral antidiabetic drugs. Only 11% (n=11) of patients hnt for sexual and cardiovascular disorders. Many wound-healing assays are used in cell biology and biomedicine; they are often labor intensive and/or require specialized and costly equipment. We describe a contactless method to create wounds with any imaginable 2D pattern in cell monolayers using the micro-jets of either media or an immiscible and biocompatible fluorocarbon (i.e., FC40). We also combine this with another method that allows automation and multiplexing using standard Petri dishes. A dish is filled with a thin film of media overlaid with FC40, and the two liquids are reshaped into an array of microchambers within minutes. Each chamber in such a grid is isolated from others by the fluid walls of FC40. Cells are now added, allowed to grow into a monolayer, and wounds are created using the microjets; then, healing is monitored by microscopy. As arrays of chambers can be made using media and Petri dishes familiar to biologists, and as dishes fit seamlessly into their incubators, microscopes, and workflows, we anticipate that this assay will find wide application in wound healing.Segmental testicular infarction is a rare condition. Patients present with clinical features similar to torsion and testicular tumors, with most undergoing surgery. A 55-year-old male patient presented with left scrotal pain. We did a Doppler ultrasonogram and magnetic resonance imaging to diagnose his condition and rule out testicular torsion and tumor. We decided not to operate and asked the patient for follow-up. There was no pain in the left testis, and magnetic resonance imaging showed a reduction in the left testicular lesion after 4 months.Hemichorea induced by nonketotic hyperglycemia is a rare complication of diabetes mellitus. Here we present a case of 80-year-old female patient. She had a history of involuntary movement of the left body. Imaging examination showed abnormal signs of bilateral basal ganglia. After relevant treatment was conducted, the patient's hemichorea symptoms were significantly improved. Imaging features of nonketotic hyperglycemia Hemichorea plays a very important role in diagnosing and treatment of this disease. Introduction Hemichorea refers to the involuntary movements of one or more limbs of the same side. These movements are continuous and irregular, variable amplitude, and usually involve the arms and legs together. see more Stroke is the most common reason, hyperglycemia is relatively rare. Characteristic imaging findings can be very suggestive of diagnosis, and also closely related to the development of disease. Here we present a case of hemichorea induced by nonketotic hyperglycemia which was confirmed by bilateral abnormal signals of basal ganglia in MRI.Greater trochanteric pain syndrome may be caused by atypical femoral fractures, and this should be taken into consideration in the diagnostic workout. A 63-year-old woman was referred to our orthopedic outpatient hip clinic with a history of greater trochanteric pain syndrome without known trauma for 1 year. Initially X-ray of the hip and magnetic resonance imaging were found without pathology, and she was given a diagnosis of gluteus medius tendinopathy. As physiotherapy and steroid injections did not resolve her pain, a second look on the magnetic resonance imaging and X-ray revealed a discrete atypical femoral fracture in the lateral cortex with the presence of an isolated Looser zone, which were attributed to her pain syndrome. Two years after onset of symptoms, and with no pain relief on medical treatment, she was treated with an intramedullary nail. One-year postoperative the patient was pain free. This case emphasizes the important utility of magnetic resonance imaging in refractory greater trochanteric pain syndrome.

Self-care instruction in pharmacy curricula is essential given the impact pharmacists have in caring for patients in the community and their evolving role in this area. The primary objective of this study was to strengthen our current understanding of self-care education across undergraduate Canadian pharmacy programs.

A national curriculum survey and follow-up phone interview was conducted in 2019 to assess the quantity and quality of self-care instruction across Canadian pharmacy schools. Representatives were selected based on theirparticipation in the Association of Faculties of Pharmacy of Canada Self-Care Therapeutics and Minor Ailments special interest group.

Responses were received from all 10 pharmacy schools in Canada. Self-care education varies across Canadian pharmacy curricula, reflecting differences in scopes of practice across provinces, topics of interest and availability of space within curricula by the various faculties. Specifically, there was considerable variability in the number of hours devoted to self-care education, course content and methods for integration and teaching.

Results of this study may help inform and evolve self-care curricula across the country. We argue that strategies for enhancing current programs may include establishing a minimum number of core hours and topics, expanding natural health product content and curricular content oversight by a lead faculty member.

The Bloom Program, which began as a demonstration project, is an ongoing community pharmacy-based mental illness and addictions program funded by the government of Nova Scotia. To be eligible to offer the Bloom Program, interested pharmacists were required to complete a 9-part application on behalf of their pharmacies. A process evaluation was conducted to inform future program implementation changes of program components, including the application process.

Qualitative interviews from 24 pharmacists were inductively analyzed to determine the challenges and opportunities in the program's application process.

Key and impactful components of the application process included training, providing a mental health and addictions resource centre within the pharmacy and completing outreach activities with local mental health and addictions services and support organizations. The training content and format for the program was highly valued. Community outreach to local mental health and addictions resources, and other health care resources in the community, was particularly valuable in supporting patient navigation of the health care system and extending the pharmacists' networks.
