Accordingly, various additional reaction pathways were considered and are discussed herein, including the dehydrogenative coupling of alcohol to ester and the Tischenko reaction coupling aldehyde to ester. This study should inform future green, (de)hydrogenative catalysis with thiols and other transformations catalyzed by related ruthenium pincer complexes.Aromatic hydroxylation reactions catalyzed by heme-thiolate enzymes proceed via an epoxide intermediate. These aromatic epoxides could be valuable building blocks for organic synthesis giving access to a range of chiral trans-disubstituted cyclohexadiene synthons. Here, we show that naphthalene epoxides generated by fungal peroxygenases can be subjected to nucleophilic ring opening, yielding non-racemic trans-disubstituted cyclohexadiene derivates, which in turn can be used for further chemical transformations. This approach may represent a promising shortcut for the synthesis of natural products and APIs.The effectiveness of peroxymonocarbonate (HCO4 -) on the degradation of Reactive Blue 19 (RB19) textile dye was investigated in this study. The formation kinetics of HCO4 - produced in situ in a H2O2 - HCO3 - system was studied to control the experimental conditions for the investigation of RB19 degradation at mild conditions. The effects of metallic ion catalysts, the pH, the input HCO3 - and Co2+ concentrations, and UV irradiation were studied. The obtained result showed that Co2+ ion gave the highest efficiency on accelerating the rate of RB19 degradation by the H2O2-HCO3 - system. In the pH range of 7-10, the higher pH values resulted in faster dye degradation. The reaction orders of the RB19 degradation with respect to Co2+ and HCO3 - were determined to be 1.2 and 1.7, respectively. The UV irradiation remarkably enhanced the radical formation in the oxidation system, which led to high degradation efficiencies. The COD, TOC removal, and HPLC results clearly revealed complete mineralization of RB19 by the H2O2 - HCO3 --Co2+ system. In this work, an effective nanocomposite-based adsorbent directed to adsorb cobalt (Co2+) ion was successfully synthesized from graphene oxide (GO), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), and magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles via a coprecipitation technique. The synthesized GO/PVA/Fe3O4 nanocomposite was applied for Co2+ ion removal with the optimized working conditions including 100 min of contact time, 0.01 g of adsorbent dosage, pH of 5.2, and 50°C of temperature. The investigation of adsorption kinetics showed that the adsorption of Co2+ ion onto the GO/PVA/Fe3O4 nanocomposite followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model with the rate constant k2 being 0.0026 (g mg-1·min-1). The Langmuir model is suitable to describe the adsorption of Co2+ ion onto the GO/PVA/Fe3O4 nanocomposite with the maximum sorption capacity (q max) reaching 373.37 mg·g-1. Selleck Go6976 The obtained results also indicated that the GO/PVA/Fe3O4 nanocomposite can adsorb/regenerate for at least 5 cycles with a little reduction in removal efficiency. Therefore, we believe that the GO/PVA/Fe3O4 nanocomposite could be used as a potential adsorbent for heavy metal treatment in terms of high adsorption capacity, fast adsorption rate, and recyclability.Fisheries and aquaculture production in the coastal zone of Vietnam contribute significantly to the national economy. However, seafood quality and safety, especially in terms of metal contents, are of increasing concern, for both domestic and international markets. This paper presents the results of an investigation in some trace metal elements (iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn), copper (Cu), arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), and mercury (Hg)) concentrations in some fishes, crustaceans, and molluscs in the coastal zone of the Red River (in the Ba Lat estuary in Thai Binh and Nam Dinh provinces) during four sampling campaigns in 2020. All samples were treated by a green sample preparation using microwave digestion and then analyzed by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The results showed that the trace metal element concentrations in fish, crustacean, and mollusc samples decreased in the following order Fe > Zn > Mn > Cu > As > Cd ∼ Hg. In more details, the ranges of trace metal elements in seafood samples were 13.13-202.73; 7.63-82.71; 0.48-22.73; 0.72-15.58; 0.18-5.12; 0.001-1.114; and 0.001-0.923 mg·kg-1 for Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu, As, Cd, and Hg, respectively. The research results contribute to the dataset of the seafood (both fishery and aquacultural seafood) quality in the Red River coastal zone. Although the mean values of different trace metal elements observed in this study were lower than the allowed values of Vietnam's or European's threshold for food safety, some high concentrations were detected. The survey results suggest the need to expand the monitoring scope (frequency of monitoring, number of samples, and observed variables) for obtaining a fully comprehensive assessment of seafood quality in this region. Our results also indicate that it is necessary to manage water quality in coastal areas, especially where aquaculture activities are carried out.Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) are particularly rare tumors that have been described in various anatomic locations, of which the urinary bladder is the most common. These benign tumors are amendable to conservative therapy but are notoriously difficult to diagnose given their mimicry of malignant sarcomas and sarcomatoid carcinomas, making an accurate diagnosis paramount to spare a patient radical and unnecessary treatment. We hereby present the case of a 37-year-old female patient who was diagnosed with an IMT of the urinary bladder during workup for painless gross hematuria. Patient was successfully managed with a laparoscopic partial cystectomy and is free of recurrence 5 years after surgery. IMTs are rare benign tumors that share the same clinical presentation as malignant bladder tumors. Deep biopsy and experienced pathologist are crucial in establishing diagnosis and avoiding patient radical treatment. This case is a classical demonstration of a remarkably rare tumor that was adequately managed with conservative therapy, achieving excellent clinical outcomes.Zinner syndrome was first described in 1914 and represents the triad of unilateral renal agenesis and ipsilateral seminal vesicle cyst and ipsilateral ejaculatory duct obstruction. Seminal vesicle cysts are often asymptomatic but can also present with pain, haematospermia, or other lower urinary tract symptoms. Treatment strategies include observation and surgical excision. We present the laparoscopic management of an enlarged seminal vesicle cyst, consistent with Zinner syndrome, 14 years after the initial diagnosis. A 58-year-old male patient was diagnosed with a left-sided seminal vesicle cyst while undergoing assessment for renal transplant due to progressively worsening renal function in his solitary right kidney. The otherwise asymptomatic cyst enlarged from the time of initial diagnosis in 2004 (11.3 cm × 9.7 cm × 13.1 cm) to nearly double the size in 2018 (12.8 cm × 11.9 cm × 14.2 cm). This cyst size ultimately precluded renal transplant, and the patient was referred for excision. Laparoscopic excision of the cyst was performed, histopathology confirmed seminal vesicle cyst tissue, and there has been no recurrence of the cyst to date. link2 The patient remains active on the renal transplant waitlist. Zinner syndrome is a rare syndrome, with the seminal vesicle cysts being managed by observation or surgical excision. We report the longest documented observation of a seminal vesicle cyst, culminating in a safe and successful laparoscopic excision. The aim of this report is to describe a case of fungal bezoar obstruction of the kidney and our experience in managing it endoscopically. A 61-year-old woman presented with flank pain. On CT scan, a proximal stone and secondary dilatation was seen. After placing a DJ stent and administering antibiotics, there was persistent pain, sickness, and kidney dilatation on CT scan. URS showed soft tissue bezoars surrounding the stent and the stone. We managed to remove all the fungal balls mechanically and endoscopically. This report showed that endoscopic removal of the bezoars is a good alternative for antifungal installation. The endovascular treatment for acute type A dissection (ATAD) represents an alternative and emerging option in selected high surgical risk patients. link3 We report a successful total endovascular ATAD repair occurred intraoperatively during transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) placement in 82 years old female, not fit for surgery in emergency setting. The presentation, the diagnostic evaluation, and the technique are discussed. This case would support the feasibility and efficacy of the stent graft technology to treat ATADs after evaluation of clinical, anatomical, and radiological parameters.A pancreaticopleural fistula is a rare cause of pleural effusion. It is a complication of chronic or acute pancreatitis. It is rarely formed to the right or both pleural cavities. Diagnosis and proper treatment often turn out to be difficult and require the cooperation of a multidisciplinary team. The authors present the case of a 59-year-old patient treated for recurrent pleural effusion of unknown origin, first to the left and then to the right pleural cavity. After many months of treatment, the diagnosis of a pancreaticopleural fistula was made. The patient underwent surgery, which finally led to a successful complete recovery. Pancreaticopleural fistula should always be considered in patients with pleural effusion of unknown origin.Lipomas arising from the omentum are extremely rare in adults. Omental lipomas are typically asymptomatic, but very large ones may cause nonspecific abdominal symptoms and discomfort. Rarely they can cause omental torsion and present with an acute abdomen. We report a 41-year-old female patient with a giant lipoma (40 × 26 × 8 cm and 11,520 g) who presented with mild abdominal discomfort. Workup included abdominal ultrasound (USG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Surgical resection was performed without complication. No recurrence was observed during 4-year follow-up.Titanium is a known metal used widely in the medical field and can cause allergic reactions with complications. Our case is about a 28-year-old female presenting with a spectrum of abdominal symptoms with a complicated medical history. The abdominal pain is associated with titanium allergy reaction from previously inserted titanium-based surgical clips. This patient is concurrently found to have a retained pigtail catheter in the cecum discovered incidentally through radiology. We discuss the presentation, investigations, and treatment of this unusual case. The case also unfolds rare differential diagnoses to keep in mind when encountering a patient with abdominal pain and associated nonspecific symptoms.Eosinophilic angiocentric fibrosis (EAF) is an exceeding rare clinical entity and is considered a part of the spectrum of IgG4-related disease (IgG4RD). We hereby present such an unusual case of a 60-year-old female who presented to us with recurrent sinonasal mass, after a decade long haul of multiple clinical evaluations, biopsies, and debulking surgery without a definitive diagnosis. Over this period, the mass eroded through the ethmoid cells along with nasal septal destruction leading to saddle nose deformity, extended superiorly through the cribriform plates to right frontal lobe, and compressed the optic nerve leading to visual loss. Although initial biopsy was negative, repeat biopsy was performed owing to high clinical suspicion due to all the classic histopathological findings compatible with the diagnosis of eosinophilic angiocentric fibrosis IgG4-related disease (EAF-IgG4RD). Steroids are the recommended first-line therapy; however, our case was resistant to steroids needing rituximab to halt the disease progression.
