To identify the genetic basis of an unusual pediatric cortical cataract demonstrating autosomal dominant inheritance in a large European-Australian pedigree.
DNA from four affected individuals were exome sequenced utilizing a NimbleGen SeqCap EZ Exome V3 kit and HiSeq 2500. DNA from 12 affected and four unaffected individuals were genotyped using Human OmniExpress-24 BeadChips. Multipoint linkage and haplotyping were performed (Superlink-Online SNP). DNA from one affected individual and his unaffected father were whole-genome sequenced on a HiSeq X Ten system. Rare small insertions/deletions and single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) were identified in the disease-linked region (Golden Helix SVS). Combined Annotation Dependent Depletion (CADD) analysis predicted variant deleteriousness. Putative enhancer function and variant effects were determined using the Dual-Glo Luciferase Assay system.
Linkage mapping identified a 6.23-centimorgan support interval at chromosome 7q36. A co-segregating haplotype refined data implicate increased function of an enhancer important for SHH expression primarily within developing eye tissues. Two new alkaloids (1 and 2), named 1,7-dimethoxy-2'-prenyl-1',9-dihydropyrrolo-carbazole (1) and 1,7-dimethoxy-4',5'-dimethylcyclopenta-carbazole-1',3'-dione (2), along with thirteen known alkaloids (3-15) were isolated by means of silica gel, sephadex LH-20, and semi-preparative HPLC from the CHCl3 extraction of Corydalis decumbens for the first time. Their structures were determined by NMR, MS, IR, UV, and related references. Compounds (1-15) were evaluated for their antidepressant activities by measuring inhibition of monoamine neurotransmitter reuptake in vitro. Among them, compounds 1, 2, 4, and 6 showed certain antidepressant activities. This study uses data obtained through an updated version of the Brazilian National Health System Questionnaire for COVID-19 to assess olfactory dysfunction in patients with mild COVID-19 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.Thin film platinum resistive thermometers are conventionally applied for resistance thermometry techniques due to their stability and proven measurement accuracy. Depending upon the required thermometer thickness and temperature measurement, however, performance benefits can be realized through the application of alternative nanometallic thin films. Herein, a comparative experimental analysis is provided on the performance of nanometallic thin film thermometers most relevant to microelectronics and thermal sensing applications Al, Au, Cu, and Pt. Sensitivity is assessed through the temperature coefficient of resistance, measured over a range of 10-300 K for thicknesses nominally spanning 25-200 nm. The interplay of electron scattering sources, which give rise to the temperature-dependent TCR properties for each metal, are analyzed in the framework of a Mayadas-Shatzkes based model. Despite the prevalence of evaporated Pt thin film thermometers, Au and Cu films fabricated in a similar manner may provide enhanced sensitivity depending upon thickness. These results may serve as a guide as the movement toward smaller measurement platforms necessitates the use of smaller, thinner metallic resistance thermometers.Reported herein is rhodium-catalysed oxidative C-H/C-H cross-coupling of S-aryl sulfoximines with thiophenes via a chelation-assisted strategy, which provides an efficient approach for the construction of [1]benzothieno[3,2-b][1]benzothiophene (BTBT) and benzothiazine skeletons from easily available substrates. This protocol exhibits a good compatibility with halogen substituents, thus paving the way for further transformation to prepare various organic functional molecules. The resulting benzothiazine derivative shows a deep blue emission with Commission Internationale de 'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.15, 0.04), a high quantum yield, and a delayed fluorescence lifetime.Potential applications of 2D metal-organic frameworks (MOF) require the frameworks to be monophase and well-defined at the atomic scale, to be decoupled from the supporting substrate, and to remain stable at the application conditions. Here, we present three systems meeting this elusive set of requirements M-TCNQ (M = Ni, Fe, Mn) on epitaxial graphene/Ir(111). We study the systems experimentally by scanning tunneling microscopy, low energy electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. When synthesized on graphene, the 2D M-TCNQ MOFs are monophase with M1(TCNQ)1 stoichiometry, no alternative structure was observed with slight variation of the preparation protocol. We further demonstrate a remarkable chemical and thermal stability of TCNQ-based 2D MOFs all the studied systems survive exposure to ambient conditions, with Ni-TCNQ doing so without any significant changes to its atomic-scale structure or chemical state. Thermally, the most stable system is Fe-TCNQ which remains stable above 500 °C, while all the tested MOFs survive heating to 250 °C. Overall, the modular M-TCNQ/graphene system combines the atomic-scale definition required for fundamental studies with the robustness and stability needed for applications, thus we consider it an ideal model for research in single atom catalysis, spintronics or high-density storage media.
Maternal depression is frequently reported in the postpartum period, with an estimated prevalence of approximately 15% during the first postpartum year. Despite the high prevalence of postpartum depression, there is no consensus regarding which patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) should be used to screen for this complex, multidimensional construct.
To evaluate psychometric measurement properties of existing PROMs of maternal postpartum depression using the Consensus-Based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN) guideline and identify the best available patient-reported screening measure.
This systematic review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) reporting guideline. selleck PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, and Web of Science were searched on July 1, 2019, for validated PROMs of postpartum depression, and an additional search including a hand search of references from eligible studies was conducted in June 2021. Included studies evale for sufficient internal consistency (with sufficient structural validity), resulting in a recommendation of class A. The other 9 PROMs evaluated received a recommendation of class B.
The findings of this systematic review suggest that the EPDS is the best available patient-reported screening measure of maternal postpartum depression. Future studies should focus on evaluating the cross-cultural validity, reliability, and measurement error of the EPDS to improve understanding of its psychometric properties and utility.

Although children's hospitals (CH) provide a substantial proportion of highly specialized pediatric care in the United States, the value of CH compared with non-children's hospitals (NCH) for routine surgical procedures is unknown.
To examine the value of CH for routine surgical procedures by assessing clinical outcomes and payment data.
This retrospective cohort study examined pediatric patients undergoing 1 of 13 commonly performed surgical procedures between 2010 and 2015 with 90-day follow-up using administrative data from the Health Care Cost Institute. Data analysis was conducted from July 2019 to December 2021.
The primary exposure was tier of CH status, defined using self-reported pediatric services, affiliation with pediatric focused programs, and validated based on proportion of pediatric admissions.
Payments for common surgical procedures from private insurers and overall complication and readmission rates at 30, 60, and 90 days.
There were 368 220 pediatric patients who underwent one oayments and, thus, overall lower value care. To ensure delivery of optimal value to patients and payers, more research is needed to evaluate mechanisms to ensure access, decrease costs, and improve value at both CH and NCH.
In this cohort study, children who underwent common surgical procedures had equivalent clinical outcomes at CH and NCH but the procedures were associated with higher payments and, thus, overall lower value care. To ensure delivery of optimal value to patients and payers, more research is needed to evaluate mechanisms to ensure access, decrease costs, and improve value at both CH and NCH.
Estimates of the total economic cost of firearm violence are important in drawing attention to this public health issue; however, studies that consider violence more broadly are needed to further the understanding of the extent to which such costs can be avoided.
To estimate the association of firearm assaults with US hospital costs and deaths compared with other assault types.
The 2016-2018 US Nationwide Emergency Department Sample and National Inpatient Sample, Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project were used in this cross-sectional study of emergency department (ED) and inpatient admissions for assaults involving a firearm, sharp object, blunt object, or bodily force identified using International Statistical Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification codes. Differences in ED and inpatient costs (2020 US dollars) across mechanisms were estimated using ordinary least-squares regression with and without adjustments for year and hospital, patient, and injury characteristics. The or firearm assaults. In regression analysis, ED costs for firearm assaults were 59% to 99% higher than costs for nonfirearm assaults, and inpatient costs were 67% to 118% higher.
The findings of this study suggest that it may be useful for policies aimed at reducing the costs of firearm violence to consider violence more broadly to understand the extent to which costs can be avoided.

Increased rates of myocarditis or pericarditis following receipt of COVID-19 mRNA vaccines have been observed. However, few available data are associated with differences in rates of myocarditis or pericarditis specific to vaccine products, which may have important implications for vaccination programs.
To estimate rates of reported myocarditis or pericarditis following receipt of a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine by product, age, sex, dose number, and interdose interval.
This population-based cohort study was conducted in Ontario, Canada (population 14.7 million) from December 2020 to September 2021 and used data from Ontario's COVID-19 vaccine registry and passive vaccine-safety surveillance system. All individuals in Ontario, Canada, who received at least 1 dose of COVID-19 mRNA vaccine between December 14, 2020, and September 4, 2021, and had a reported episode of myocarditis or pericarditis following receipt of the COVID-19 vaccine during this period were included. We obtained information on all vaccine doses administered in the province to calculate reported rates of myocarditis or pericarditis.
