Adipose tissue lipolysis and plasma free fatty acid concentration are likely the major metabolic controllers of enhanced lipid storage in the liver after each exercise bout, and we discuss nutritional impacts as well as health implications. Although traditionally clinicians would be merely concerned with hepatic lipids in overnight-fasted, rested individuals, it is now apparent that the content of hepatic TAG fluctuates in response to metabolic challenges such as exercise, and these responses likely exert significant impacts on health and cellular homeostasis.A key to longevity assurance is the nutrient-sensing mTOR pathway. Inhibition of mTOR extends lifespan in a variety of organisms. However, the downstream effectors of the mTOR pathway for lifespan regulation are elusive. In a recent report, we described the role of Maf1 as a critical lifespan regulator downstream of the mTOR pathway in fission yeast. Maf1 is the master negative regulator of RNA polymerase III-directed transcription (e.g. tRNAs and 5S rRNAs) and is regulated by mTOR-mediated phosphorylation. We demonstrated that Maf1 is required for lifespan extension under calorie restriction or when mTOR is inhibited. We also showed that Maf1 prevents DNA damage at tRNA genes, which appears to contribute to lifespan maintenance by Maf1. Here we highlight these observations and present additional results to discuss the role of the mTOR-Maf1-Pol III axis in promoting genomic integrity in the face of DNA replication-transcription conflicts in order to maintain normal lifespan.Accumulating evidence has reported the role of microRNA (miR) in retinoblastoma (RB). Therefore, the objective was to discuss how miR-362-3p exerted its function in RB cell progression via regulating ubiquitin-specific protease 2 (USP22) and lysine-specific histone demethylase 1 (LSD1). MiR-362-3p, USP22 and LSD1 expression in RB cells and tissues were tested. The biological functions of RB cells were detected via over-expressing miR-362-3p and down-regulating USP22. The target relationship of USP22 and miR-362-3p as well as the interaction of USP22 and LSD1 in RB was verified. Down-regulated miR-362-3p and up-regulated USP22 and LSD1 were demonstrated in RB tissues and cells. Restoring miR-362-3p and depleting USP22 attenuated invasion, proliferation and migration, and facilitated apoptosis of RB cells. click here USP22 was a target gene of miR-362-3p. USP22 deubiquitinated LSD1 in RB. It is revealed that miR-362-3p targets USP22 and then restrains invasion, proliferation and migration while promotes apoptosis of RB via reducing LSD1 modified by deubiquitination.Vection has been reported to be enhanced by wind, as long as the wind is a normal temperature and not hot. However, here we report that a hot wind can facilitate vection, as long as it is natural and consistent with the visual stimulus. We created a fire-corridor stimulus that was consistent with a hot wind and a control stimulus composed of cubes, which were irrelevant to a hot wind. We compared the vection strength induced by a fire-corridor (fire condition) visual stimulus with that induced by geometric cubes (no-fire condition) visual stimulus. There were three wind type conditions a normal temperature wind, hot wind, and no wind. The results showed that a normal temperature wind facilitated vection and that a hot wind (but not a normal wind) highly enhanced vection when a fire-corridor stimulus was presented. These results suggest that vection is highly affected and modulated by high-level cognitive processes. In recent years, a growing number of studies have used cortical tracking methods to investigate auditory language processing. Although most studies that employ cortical tracking stem from the field of auditory signal processing, this approach should also be of interest to psycholinguistics-particularly the subfield of sentence processing-given its potential to provide insight into dynamic language comprehension processes. However, there has been limited collaboration between these fields, which we suggest is partly because of differences in theoretical background and methodological constraints, some mutually exclusive. In this paper, we first review the theories and methodological constraints that have historically been prioritized in each field and provide concrete examples of how some of these constraints may be reconciled. We then elaborate on how further collaboration between the two fields could be mutually beneficial. Specifically, we argue that the use of cortical tracking methods may help resolve long-standing debates in the field of sentence processing that commonly used behavioral and neural measures (e.g., ERPs) have failed to adjudicate. Similarly, signal processing researchers who use cortical tracking may be able to reduce noise in the neural data and broaden the impact of their results by controlling for linguistic features of their stimuli and by using simple comprehension tasks. Overall, we argue that a balance between the methodological constraints of the two fields will lead to an overall improved understanding of language processing as well as greater clarity on what mechanisms cortical tracking of speech reflects. Increased collaboration will help resolve debates in both fields and will lead to new and exciting avenues for research.Spoken language production involves lexical-semantic access and phonological encoding. A theoretically important question concerns the relative time course of these two cognitive processes. The predominant view has been that semantic and phonological codes are accessed in successive stages. However, recent evidence seems difficult to reconcile with a sequential view but rather suggests that both types of codes are accessed in parallel. Here, we used ERPs combined with the "blocked cyclic naming paradigm" in which items overlapped either semantically or phonologically. Behaviorally, both semantic and phonological overlap caused interference relative to unrelated baseline conditions. Crucially, ERP data demonstrated that the semantic and phonological effects emerged at a similar latency (∼180 msec after picture onset) and within a similar time window (180-380 msec). These findings suggest that access to phonological information takes place at a relatively early stage during spoken planning, largely in parallel with semantic processing.
