Some have questioned the evidence for performance-enhancing effects of several substances included on the World Anti-Doping Agency's Prohibited List due to the divergent or inconclusive findings in randomized controlled trials (RCTs). However, inductive statistical inference based on RCTs-only may result in biased conclusions because of the scarcity of studies, inter-study heterogeneity, too few outcome events, or insufficient power. An abductive inference approach, where the body of evidence is evaluated beyond considerations of statistical significance, may serve as a tool to assess the plausibility of performance-enhancing effects of substances by also considering observations and facts not solely obtained from RCTs. Herein, we explored the applicability of an abductive inference approach as a tool to assess the performance-enhancing effects of substances included on the Prohibited List. We applied an abductive inference approach to make inferences on debated issues pertaining to the ergogenic effects of recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO), beta2-agonists and anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS), and extended the approach to more controversial drug classes where RCTs are limited. We report that an abductive inference approach is a useful tool to assess the ergogenic effect of substances included on the Prohibited List-particularly for substances where inductive inference is inconclusive. Specifically, a systematic abductive inference approach can aid researchers in assessing the effects of doping substances, either by leading to suggestions of causal relationships or identifying the need for additional research.

To quantify hard exudates (HEs) by multicolor imaging (MCI) and traditional color fundus photography (CFP) in diabetic macular edema (DME), and study their associations with serum lipid levels.

Observational study. DME patients with HEs were recruited. The HE area and location both by MCI and CFP were measured by ImageJ software. Multivariate regression models were used to analyze the associations of serum lipid levels with the total HE area and HE location.

Patients with TTS have a low prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM), and it has been postulated that DM, via its associated neuropathy, prevents the emergence of TTS. Insulin, in animal experiments, has been shown to greatly attenuate the effects of NE on the cardiomyocytes; also, insulin in a limited clinical experience, has been found to improve heart function in patients with neurogenic stress-cardiomyopathy and TTS. Accordingly, it is postulated that high levels of insulin encountered in patients with type 2 DM are at the roots of the protective effect of DM for the emergence of TTS. Thus, a role of insulin in the pathophysiology, diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy of TTS appears to be plausible, and needs exploration.

Building on an emerging body of evidence, this scoping review aimed to provide an overview of current interventions to promote work-focused care by healthcare providers for individuals with musculoskeletal conditions and to identify current knowledge gaps for future research.

Literature searches were performed in Pubmed, CINAHL, EMBASE, and PsycInfo using Medical Subject Heading terms and text words relating to musculoskeletal conditions, interventions to promote work-focused care and work-related outcomes. Articles involving any interventions with elements of work-focused care delivered by healthcare providers to manage musculoskeletal conditions were reviewed for suitability and inclusion.

A total of 22 articles (18 intervention trials) were identified. Most studies were multidisciplinary interventions incorporating one or more elements of work-focused care including work-related assessment to identify barriers to working, vocational advice/coaching or education to address barriers to working, involve work-focused care is important, however, does not diminish the challenge it presents.

Robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) is a difficult procedure with risk of significant perioperative complications. The objective was to evaluate the impact of preoperative planning and intraoperative guidance with 3D model reconstructions on perioperative outcomes of RAPN.

We conducted a retrospective analysis of all patients who underwent RAPN for kidney tumor by three high-volume expert surgeons from academic centers. link3 Clinical data were collected prospectively after written consent into the French kidney cancer network database UroCCR (CNIL-DR 2013-206; NCT03293563). Our cohort was divided into two groups 3D-Image guided RAPN group (3D-IGRAPN) and control group. A propensity score according to age, pre-operative renal function and RENAL tumor complexity score was used. Both surgical techniques were compared in terms of perioperative outcomes.

The initial study cohort included 230 3D-IGRAPN and 415 control RAPN. Before propensity-score matching, patients in the 3D-IGRAPN group had a larger tumor (4.3cm vs. 3.5cm, P < 0.001) and higher RENAL complexity score (9 vs. 8, P < 0.001). Following propensity-score matching, there were 157 patients in both groups. The rate of major complications was lower for patients in the 3D-IGRAPN group (3.8% vs. 9.5%, P = 0.04). The median percentage of eGFR variation recorded at first follow-up was lower in the 3D-IGRAPN group (-5.6% vs. -10.5%, P = 0.002). The trifecta achievement rate was higher in the 3D-IGRAPN group (55.7% vs. 45.1%; P = 0.005).

In order to this, the forehead is noteworthy with its gender-related features and important relation to the nose. The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of forehead contouring with fat grafting adjunct to rhinoplasty on personal traits, facial appearance and patient satisfaction.

A total of 15 patients who underwent rhinoplasty and forehead contouring with fat grafting were enrolled in this retrospective study. Facial appearance and personal traits were evaluated via subject Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (S-GAIS), and patient satisfaction was assessed with custom design Forehead Rhinoplasty Outcome Evaluation Questionnaire (F/ROE-Q). Most patients with autosomal-dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) develop liver cysts and polycystic liver disease as they age. To date, no simple clinical indicator has been confirmed to predict polycystic liver disease exacerbation. Furthermore, the effect of the type and location of mutation on disease progression of polycystic liver disease remains unclear. Here, we aimed to establish a simple liver cyst indicator for clinical practice and investigate whether gene mutations determined liver phenotype in patients with autosomal-dominant polycystic kidney disease.

In total, 129 patients with ADPKD were enrolled and liver cyst indicators were assessed based on mutation type (truncating mutation nonsense, frameshift, and splicing mutation; non-truncating mutation substitution) and mutation position. Liver cyst severity was determined using Gigot and Drenth classifications, based on their number, maximum diameter, and area ratio with the liver.

We observed an overall prevalence of 62.8% for polycystic liver disease. Patients with PKD1 nonsense mutations, a type of PKD1 truncating mutation, exhibited more severe liver disease phenotypes than those without the mutation. We identified maximum diameter as a potential liver cyst indicator. Moreover, a subgroup analysis that included a PKD1 nonsense mutation cohort revealed that genetic mutations located closer to the 5' end of PKD1 were associated with a maximum diameter index value ≥ 6cm.

We aimed to provide practical methods for COVID-19 risk reduction during breast cancer screening mammography (MMG) by examining an overview of potential contamination routes of aerosols and possible risks for patients and health care providers.

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were conducted for airflow and aerosol dispersion in a 3D virtual model of a mobile MMG laboratory room. This model was constructed based on the actual mobile screening MMG bus 'Cosmos' in the Chiba Foundation for Health Promotion & Disease Prevention. Examiner and patient geometries were obtained by scanning an actual human using a 3D Scanner. Contamination of the room was evaluated by counting the numbers of suspended and deposited aerosols.

We applied the CFD simulation model to the exhalation of small or large aerosols from a patient and examiner in the MMG laboratory.
