Functional units become more diverse, but are overall mostly defined on a mass basis. A frequently identified issue of many LCAs on solid waste management is the ambiguity of data sources such as out-of-date literature or inconsistent geographical references. By addressing issues of methodological standardization, this review study provides a basis to further increase the reliability of results of future LCA studies on solid waste management.As the third pole of the world, the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) has a very special climate and geographical environment. In the past 20 years, with the increasing demand for clean energy, more than ten hydropower stations have been built. The impacts of these hydropower stations on riparian vegetation (RV) have only been described qualitatively in previous studies, while the contribution of dams and meteorological variables to riparian vegetation has not been quantitatively assessed. This study selected eight representative large-scale hydropower stations in the QTP, calculated and analyzed the dynamics of the standardized difference vegetation index (NDVI) of the RV pre-and post the dams construction, combined with the measured temperature and precipitation data to explore the driving factors of RV changes. The results show that the dams promoted the growth of RV and they were the main contributor (>50%) while precipitation and temperature had relatively small impacts. The effect of dams varies for different regions, compared with the sub-cold regions, it was more significant in humid and semi-humid regions of temperate zone. The dams affected RV in an indirect way through regulating the microclimate, promoting precipitation and slowing down the rate of temperature rise and these effects may come from the increase of the upstream water surface area.

Reports show that the majority (60%) of children under age five years in Sub-Saharan Africa are anaemic. Studies in the region have mainly focused on the effect of individual, maternal and household socioeconomic status on the prevalence of anaemia. Currently, there is limited understanding of the association between early-life environmental exposures and anaemia among children in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The study examines the association between early-life environmental exposures and anaemia among children under five in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The study used health and demographic data from the Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) program and environmental data from NASA's Geospatial Interactive Online Visualization ANd aNalysis Infrastructure (GIOVANNI) and Atmospheric Composition Analysis Group. Three exposure periods were defined for the study, namely in-utero, post-utero and cumulative life exposures. Multilevel mixed-effect models were used to assess the associations between environmental exposures and anadren in the region.

The findings of the study suggest that early-life exposure to ambient air pollution is significantly associated with anaemia among children in Sub-Saharan Africa. Thus, policies aimed at addressing air quality should be incorporated into targeted interventions for anaemia among children in the region.There is increasing use worldwide of electronic decision-support tools to identify potentially invasive non-native species so as to inform policy and management decisions aimed at preventing or mitigating the environmental and socio-economic impacts of biological invasions. This study reviews the analytical approaches used to calibrate scores generated by the Weed Risk Assessment and subsequent adaptations thereof and provides a protocol for (i) the identification of the assessor(s) who will carry out the screenings; (ii) the definition of the risk assessment area; (iii) the criteria for selection of the species for screening; and (iv) the a priori categorisation of the species into invasive or non-invasive necessary to compute the thresholds by which to distinguish between high-risk and medium-risk non-native species. The uptake and effects of microplastics have been studied in almost all groups of aquatic organisms. This review details the different aspects of microplastics exposure in an ecologically and economically important group of crustaceans, the Decapods. A majority of Decapod crustaceans such as prawns, shrimp, crabs, lobsters and crayfish are consumed as seafood and play important roles in food chains and food webs. Numerous studies are available on the accumulation of microplastics in tissues such as the gills, hepatopancreas and gastrointestinal tract in these organisms. Experimental studies have also highlighted the toxic effects of microplastics such as oxidative stress, immunotoxicity and reproductive and developmental toxicity in them. This review also summarizes the ecological impacts and implications in human beings as well as lacunae with regard to microplastic uptake in Decapods.Chloranthus fortunei (family Chloranthaceae), a perennial herb, widely distributed in south China with an altitude of 170-340 m. The whole plants were used as an anti-inflammatory agent for the treatment of cough, arthritis and tumor. Five previously unreported compounds fortulactones A-E were isolated from the aerial part of Chloranthus fortunei. The experiment consisted of the following four groups vehicle control, cisplatin (15 mg/kg), cisplatin & melatonin (20 mg/kg/day), and melatonin (20 mg/kg/day). The rotatable central composite design (RCCD) was used to optimize extraction parameters in terms of total phenolic and total flavonoid content and antioxidant activity. The optimum conditions for extraction by methanol were ratio of solvent to raw material, 10%; extraction time, 50 min and extraction temperature, 60 °C. Under these conditions, the obtained total phenolic content 46.379 mg gallic acid equivalents/g dry matter and total flavonoid content 11.754 mg quercetin equivalents/g dry matter with antioxidant property (DPPH the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity) was 89.548%. Also, the optimum operating conditions for extraction by water were ratio of solvent to raw material, 10%; extraction time, 30 min and extraction temperature, 40 °C. Under these conditions, the obtained total phenolic content 51.112 mg gallic acid equivalents/g dry matter and total flavonoid content 4.331 mg quercetin equivalents/g dry matter with antioxidant property was 97.004%. Despite recent translation of immunotherapies into clinical practice, the immunobiology of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), in particular the role and clinical relevance of exhausted and liver-resident T cells remain unclear. We therefore dissected the landscape of exhausted and resident T cell responses in the peripheral blood and tumor microenvironment of patients with HCC.

Lymphocytes were isolated from the blood, tumor and tumor-surrounding liver tissue of patients with HCC (n= 40, n= 10 treated with anti-PD-1 therapy). Phenotype, function and response to anti-PD-1 were analyzed by mass and flow cytometry exvivo and invitro, tissue residence was further assessed by immunohistochemistry and imaging mass cytometry. Gene signatures were analyzed in silico.

We identified significant enrichment of heterogeneous populations of exhausted CD8+ T cells (TEX) in the tumor microenvironment. Strong enrichment of severely exhausted CD8 T cells expressing multiple immune checkpoints in addition to PD-1 was linked t memory T cells (TRM). This correlated with the molecular profile, metabolic and functional status of these cell populations. The enrichment of TEX was independently associated with prognosis in addition to disease stage, age and tumor markers. A high TRM proportion was also associated with better outcomes following checkpoint therapy. Thus, these T-cell populations are novel biomarkers with relevance in HCC.
