Methods Women aged ≥65 years who were diagnosed with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer from 2007 through mid-2009 were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER)-Medicare-linked database. Multivariate logistic regression was used to estimate the likelihood of AHT initiation and an interrupted time series model was used to predict the association between the introduction of GAIs and AHT adherence. The model was stratified further using Medicare low-income subsidy (LIS) status. Results A total of 10,905 women were included, approximately 62.8% of whom initiated AHT within the first year of their breast cancer diagnosis. Adjusted adherence among LIS beneficiaries was 11.4% higher than among non-LIS beneficiaries (P less then .001). Non-LIS beneficiaries had an overall decreasing trend of adherence (-0.035; P less then .001) prior to the introduction of GAIs. They experienced a 3.4% increase in the slope 6 months after the first GAI, anastrozole, entered the market, and an additional 0.8% increase in the slope 6 months after letrozole and exemestane were introduced (P less then .001). Methods This escalating-dose, placebo-controlled, cross-over study randomised adults with asthma to 1 or 2 treatment periods with ≥25 days washout in-between. Each treatment period comprised five 7-day dose escalations (μg/d) fluticasone furoate (FF; 25 → 100 → 200 → 400 → 800), fluticasone propionate (FP; 50 → 200 → 500 → 1000 → 2000), budesonide (BUD; 100 → 400 → 800 → 1600 → 3200) or placebo. Airway hyperresponsiveness to adenosine-5'-monophosphate (AMP PC20 ) was assessed on day 8. Plasma cortisol was assessed on day 1 (predose baseline) and from pre-PM dose on day 6 to pre-PM dose day 7 (24-h weighted mean). Results Fifty-four subjects were randomised. With higher sedentary behaviour and physical inactivity reported among older people, infrastructure changes and safe environments that promote older peoples' health and mobility are required. Due to ageing-related functional decline and health conditions associated with ageing, older adults may have special physical needs that require careful consideration when choosing outdoor equipment. However, limited information is available regarding the suitability of the types of exercise equipment for older people. This commentary provides further information on the type of equipment available, its functionality and suitability for older age populations and key considerations for the decision-maker involved in selecting, installing and supporting community use of outdoor exercise equipment. Recommendations on what is required to maximise usability from a system or organisational-based approach using research evidence is also discussed. Older people are more susceptible to the negative influences of their local environment and outdoor neighbourhood conditions. Factor analysis and linear discriminant analysis were used to correctly differentiate samples according to type of barley (landrace or commercial) and number of rows. In general, all the parameters varied considerably among the barley landraces analyzed, but some barley landraces could be emphasized according to fiber, minerals, and phenolic antioxidants. There were important differences in the mean values in all the chemical parameters according to the island of origin of the barley grains. In the current study, the authors estimated the latest burden and trends of HPV-attributable cancers in China. Methods Data from the following sources were used. The number of new cancer cases and cancer deaths in China were estimated based on the China Cancer Registry Annual Report. The population-attributable fraction was estimated using pooled high-risk HPV prevalence and biomarker-positive rates, which were calculated using random effects meta-analyses. Cancer burden estimates were stratified by anatomic site, sex, and age. Results In 2015, a total of 110,650 new cancer cases and 36,714 cancer deaths attributable to HPV infection were estimated to have occurred in China, of which cervical cancer accounted for 85.6% and 78.1%, respectively. The age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) and age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) of HPV-attributable cancers were 5.63 and 1.81 per 100,000 person-years, respectively. The ASIR and ASMR both varied by anatomic site, with the highest rates noted for cervical cancer at 4.83 and 1.42 per 100,000 person-years, respectively. Between 2005 and 2015, the ASIR and ASMR demonstrated significant upward trends for all HPV-attributable cancers combined. Conclusions Between 2005 and 2015, cervical cancer accounted for the vast majority of HPV-attributable cancers and its incidence and mortality increased rapidly in China. The comprehensive prevention of cervical cancer remains the most important target in the prevention of HPV-attributable cancers.The complexity in the molecular diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis (CF) also depends on the variable prevalence/incidence of the disease associated with the wide CFTR allelic heterogeneity among different populations. In fact, CF incidence in Asian and African countries is underestimated and the few patients reported so far have rare or unique CFTR pathogenic variants. To obtain insights into CF variants profile and frequency, we used the large population sequencing data in the Genome Aggregation Database (gnomAD). We selected 207 CF-causing/varying clinical consequence variants from CFTR2 database and additional 15 variants submitted to the ClinVar database. Only 14 of these variants were found in the East-Asian population, while for South-Asian and African populations we identified 43 and 52 variants, respectively, confirming the peculiarity of the CFTR allelic spectrum with only few population-specific variants. These data could be used to optimize CFTR carrier screening in non-Caucasian subjects, choosing between the full gene sequencing and cost and time-effective targeted panels.
