Researchers have identified several factors that correlate with the caring behaviours of formal caregivers in long-term care facilities (LTCFs). However, a limited range of socio-demographic factors has been discussed, and no studies have discussed the combined effects of the institutional characteristics of the LTCF and the personal characteristics (i.e. bio-psycho-socio-spiritual attributes) of the formal caregiver on the caring behaviour.
The aim of this study was to examine caring behaviours of formal caregivers for older residents of LTCFs and to explore factors that explain and predict the caring behaviours of them.
A valid sample of 224 formal caregivers (nurses and nurse aids) employed at 56 LTCFs (21 nursing homes and 35 assisted living facilities) was analysed. Hierarchical regression analysis with two-tailed significance test was used to investigate whether the caring behaviours of the caregivers were independently associated with the characteristics of the caregivers or the institutions.

Caring behaviours were related to both personal characteristics (attributes, mindset) and organisational characteristics. By clarifying factors in the caring behaviours of caregivers, this study provides information that LTCFs can use to develop strategies for managing their caregivers and that policymakers can use to establish and implement healthcare policies for older populations.Presented case illustrates additional value of applying a new visualization technique - 3D Surface Rendering during the three-dimensional echocardiography.This study aimed to evaluate the acceptability and impact of a bystander program (With You Education) in South Korea, designed to enhance the competencies of friend-supporters to help victims of dating violence (DV). To assess the potential impact of the program, the participants (n = 46) were asked to complete pre-, post-, and 1-year follow-up surveys and take part in a focused group interview after the training. Participants exhibited significant changes from pretest to posttest evaluation in terms of their competencies as a supporter. Most improvements were sustained over time. Four qualitative themes revealed the multilayered outcomes of this program increased readiness to help, awareness of DV, beginning to understand the victims, and awareness of DV as a public health problem. With You Education was seen to be an acceptable program for young adults, which can be potentially utilized as a formal violence-related education.
To study the association between timing and characteristics of the first electroencephalography (EEG) with epileptiform discharges (ED-EEG) and epilepsy and neurodevelopment at 24months in infants with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC).
Patients enrolled in the prospective Epileptogenesis in a genetic model of epilepsy - Tuberous sclerosis complex (EPISTOP) trial, had serial EEG monitoring until the age of 24months. The timing and characteristics of the first ED-EEG were studied in relation to clinical outcome. Epilepsy-related outcomes were analyzed separately in a conventionally followed group (initiation of vigabatrin after seizure onset) and a preventive group (initiation of vigabatrin before seizures, but after appearance of interictal epileptiform discharges [IEDs]).
Eighty-three infants with TSC were enrolled at a median age of 28days (interquartile range [IQR] 14-54). Seventy-nine of 83 patients (95%) developed epileptiform discharges at a median age of 77days (IQR 23-111). Early EEG findings help to identify TSC infants at risk of severe epilepsy and neurodevelopmental delay and those who may benefit from preventive treatment with vigabatrin.We investigated the prevalence rate and sociodemographic correlates of COVID-19-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and COVID-19-related acute stress disorder (ASD) among Italian adolescents, their level of stress, perception of parental stress, and connection with mental health. Adolescents aged 12-18 years compiled an online questionnaire designed through validated diagnostic instruments. We enrolled 1262 adolescents who declared that they had not experienced any previous traumatic events. Participants were divided into two groups 118 adolescents with psychiatric problems (APP+) and 1144 without (APP-). In total, 79.52% reported isolated COVID-19-related ASD (29.48%) or PTSD symptoms (50.04%). One adolescent met the diagnosis of COVID-19-related ASD and two met the diagnosis of COVID-19-related PTSD, according to DSM-5. Adolescents with subthreshold COVID-19-related ASD and PTSD symptoms referred the highest levels of personal stress and adolescents with psychiatric/psychological conditions experienced higher stress. The process is composed of the following stages assessment, feedback and prioritization, and strategize. In this article, we describe the application of the readiness building process through three case examples representing interventions at different ecological levels local, state, and national. The case examples illuminate challenges and practical considerations for using the readiness building process, including the significance of on-going leadership engagement and collaboration between support system and delivery system staff. To further the research and practice of implementation readiness, we suggest examining the impact of readiness building on implementation outcomes and developing an empirically-informed repository of change management strategies matched to readiness constructs.Inner Mongolia Cashmere goat is a well-known local cashmere goat breed in China. It is famous for excellent fleece quality and a significant advantage in cashmere yield compared to other cashmere goat breeds. In this study, a genome-wide association study was used to investigate fiber length, fiber diameter, and cashmere yield of 192 Inner Mongolia Cashmere goats using the Illumina GoatSNP52K Beadchip panel. We discovered that four single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) reached genome-wide significance levels. These SNPs were located in some genes, e.g. FGF12, SEMA3D, EVPL, and SOX5, possibly related to fleece traits in Inner Mongolia Cashmere goat. Gene ontology enrichment analysis revealed that these genes were enriched in several biological pathways that were involved in hair follicle development in cashmere goats. In summary, the identified significant SNPs and genes provide useful information to explore genetic mechanisms underlying the variation in fleece traits and genomic selection of Chinese cashmere goat.
The worldwide spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus poses unprecedented challenges to medical resources and infection prevention and control measures around the world. In this case, a rapid and effective detection method for COVID-19 can not only relieve the pressure of the medical system but find and isolate patients in time, to a certain extent, slow down the development of the epidemic. In this paper, we propose a method that can quickly and accurately diagnose whether pneumonia is viral pneumonia, and classify viral pneumonia in a fine-grained way to diagnose COVID-19.
We proposed a Cascade Squeeze-Excitation and Moment Exchange (Cascade-SEME) framework that can effectively detect COVID-19 cases by evaluating the chest x-ray images, where SE is the structure we designed in the network which has attention mechanism, and ME is a method for image enhancement from feature dimension. The framework integrates a model for a coarse level detection of virus cases among other forms of lung infection, and a model for fon radiographs of different types of pneumonia are located in different regions of the lungs.
Experiments show that after the application of SEME structure in the network, the performance of SEME-ResNet50 and SEME-DenseNet169 in both two datasets show a clear enhancement. And the proposed regional learning method effectively directs the network's attention to focus on relevant pathological regions in the lung radiograph, ensuring the performance of the proposed framework even when a small training set is used. The visual interpretation step using Grad-CAM finds that the region of attention on radiographs of different types of pneumonia are located in different regions of the lungs.Researchers typically distinguish between two mechanisms of attentional selection in vision overt and covert attention. A commonplace assumption is that overt eye movements are automatically preceded by shifts of covert attention during visual search. Although the N2pc component is a putative index of covert attentional orienting, little is currently known about its relationship with overt eye movements. This is because most previous studies of the N2pc component prohibit overt eye movements. The current study assessed this relationship by concurrently measuring covert attention (via the N2pc) and overt eye movements (via eye tracking). Participants searched displays for a lateralized target stimulus and were allowed to generate overt eye movements during the search. We then assessed whether overt eye movements were preceded by the N2pc component. The results indicated that saccades were preceded by an N2pc component, but only when participants were required to carefully inspect the target stimulus before initiating the eye movement. When participants were allowed to make naturalistic eye movements in service of visual search, there was no evidence of an N2pc component before eye movements. These findings suggest that the N2pc component does not always precede overt eye movements during visual search. Implications for understanding the relationship between covert and overt attention are discussed.
This study was undertaken to improve understanding of late relapse following epilepsy surgery in pharmacoresistant epilepsy.
Retrospective comparison was made of 99 of 1278 patients undergoing surgery during 1999-2015 with seizure relapses after at least 2years of complete seizure freedom with matched controls experiencing continued long-term seizure freedom. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed.
With a mean follow-up of 9.7years, mean time to seizure relapse was 56.6months. In multivariate analysis, incomplete resection based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), bilateral lesions on preoperative MRI, and epilepsy onset in the first year of life carried a significantly higher risk of late relapse. In patients with late relapse, additional functional imaging with positron emission tomography had been performed significantly more often. Although the differences were not significant in multivariate analysis, doses of antiepileptic drugs were higher in the relapse group preoperatively and in the first 24months and complete withdrawal was more frequent in the control group (68% vs.
