In order to identify risk periods with an increased demand in technical and human resources, we tried to determine patterns and associations in the incidence of acute ischemic stroke due to embolic large vessel occlusions (eLVO) requiring mechanical thrombectomy (MT).

We conducted a time series analysis over a 9-year period (2010-2018) based on observational data in order to detect seasonal patterns in the incidence of MT due to eLVO (n=2628 patients). In a series of sequential negative binominal regression models, we aimed to detect further associations (e.g., temperature, atmospheric pressure, air pollution).

There was a 6-month seasonal pattern in the incidence of MT due to eLVO (p=0.024) peaking in March and September. Colder overall temperature was associated with an increase in MT due to eLVO (average marginal effect [AME], [95% CI] -0.15 [-0.30-0.0001]; p=0.05; per °C). A current increase in the average monthly temperature was associated with a higher incidence of MT due to eLVO (0.34 [0.11-0.56]; p=0.003). Atmospheric pressure was positively correlated with MT due to eLVO (0.38 [0.13-0.64]; p=0.003; per hectopascal [hPa]). We could detect no causal correlation between air pollutants and MT due to eLVO.

Our data suggest a 6-month seasonal pattern in the incidence of MT due to eLVO peaking in spring and early autumn. This might be attributed to two different factors (1) a current temperature rise (comparing the average monthly temperature in consecutive months) and (2) colder overall temperature. These results could help to identify risk periods requiring an adaptation in local infrastructure.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignant tumors, and its progression is implicated in the dysregulation of circular ribonucleic acids (RNAs). This study aimed to investigate the role of circular RNA nei-like DNA glycosylase3 (circNEIL3) in HCC.

Real-time quantitative PCR was used for expression analysis of circNEIL3, microRNA-3150b-3p (miR-3150b-3p) and laminin subunit gamma1 (LAMC1) message RNA. MTT assay, colony formation assay, wound healing assay, transwell assay, and flow cytometry assay were performed for functional analyses on cell proliferation, migration, invasion, apoptosis, and cycle. The expression of marker proteins and LAMC1 protein was quantified by western blot. The interaction between miR-3150b-3p and circNEIL3 or LAMC1 was confirmed by dual-luciferase reporter assay or RNA immunoprecipitation assay. An animal study was performed to confirm the role of circNEIL3 invivo.

CircNEIL3 was upregulated in tumor tissues and HCC cell lines. CircNEIL3 knockdown significantly suppressed HCC cell proliferation, migration and invasion and induced cell apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. MiR-3150b-3p was a target of circNEIL3, and its inhibition largely reversed the functional effects of circNEIL3 knockdown on cell behaviors. Moreover, LAMC1 served as a target of miR-3150b-3p, and its expression was elevated in HCC tissues and cells. LAMC1 overexpression recovered HCC cell proliferation, migration and invasion that were blocked by miR-3150b-3p restoration. Additionally, circNEIL3 knockdown inhibited tumor growth in mice.

CircNEIL3 dysregulation was responsible for the partial development of HCC by regulating the miR-3150b-3p/LAMC1 regulatory network.

The search for ever more lasting and safe aesthetic modalities is a constant. For this reason, biostimulation is finding more and more space in clinics; relatively simple, effective, and safe procedures, a procedure that delivers what it promises. Biostimulation is nothing more than an increase in collagen production, primarily type I, with the aim of facial or body rejuvenation.

Evaluated some years ago as remarkable antimicrobial therapy, today it gains notoriety for its versatility in other areas, one of which is biostimulation, which has been growing. This paper aims to report a case of biostimulation through ozone therapy, as well as the protocol used, its indications, and contraindications.

A case report of rejuvenation with ozone therapy and a literature review.

Among biostimulatory treatments available, one has been gaining space among professionals and scientific recognition, ozone therapy.

It is a promising aesthetic therapeutic modality with efficient and safe results and high patient compliance and satisfaction.

It is mainly characterized by defect migration and invasion of trophoblast cells. Recently, circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been believed to play a vital role in PE. The expression patterns and the biological functions of circRNAs in PE remain elusive. Here, we performed a circRNA microarray to identify putative PE-related circRNAs. Bioinformatics analyses were used to screen the circRNAs which have potential relationships with pre-eclampsia, and we identified a novel circRNA (circVRK1) that was up-regulated in PE placenta tissues. By using HTR-8/SVneo cells, circVRK1 knockdown significantly enhanced cell migration and invasion abilities, as well as epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Mechanistically, we found that circVRK1 and PTEN could function as the ceRNAs to miR-221-3p. Overexpression of miR-221-3p promoted cell migration, invasion and EMT via regulating PTEN. The cotransfection of miR-221-3p inhibitor or PTEN reversed the effect from circVRK1 knockdown. Moreover, the circVRK1/miR-221-3p/PTEN axis greatly regulated Akt phosphorylation. In general, circVRK1 suppresses trophoblast cell migration, invasion and EMT, by acting as a ceRNA to miR-221-3p to regulate PTEN, and further inhibit PI3K/Akt activation. The purpose of this paper is to open wide insights to investigate the onset of PE and provide new potential therapeutic targets in PE.Sphingolipids, in particular ceramides, play vital role in pathophysiological processes linked to metabolic syndrome, with implications in the development of insulin resistance, pancreatic ß-cell dysfunction, type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis, inflammation, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, and cancer. Ceramides are produced by the hydrolysis of sphingomyelin, catalyzed by different sphingomyelinases, including neutral sphingomyelinase 2 (nSMase2), whose dysregulation appears to underlie many of the inflammation-related pathologies. In this review, we discuss the current knowledge on the biochemistry of nSMase2 and ceramide production and its regulation by inflammatory cytokines, with particular reference to cardiometabolic diseases. nSMase2 contribution to pathogenic processes appears to involve cyclical feed-forward interaction with proinflammatory cytokines, such as TNF-α and IL-1ß, which activate nSMase2 and the production of ceramides, that in turn triggers the synthesis and release of inflammatory cytokines. We elaborate these pathogenic interactions at the molecular level and discuss the potential therapeutic benefits of inhibiting nSMase2 against inflammation-driven cardiometabolic diseases.Southern flounder (Paralichthys lethostigma) are a coastal flatfish species that supports recreational and commercial fisheries but are currently experiencing range-wide declines. To quantify the range-wide declines and investigate the role of climate in these declines, fishery-independent sampling data of age-0 flounder were obtained from 34 estuaries representing four states in the Gulf of Mexico (TX, LA, AL, and FL) and three states in the Southeastern United States Atlantic Ocean (FL, SC, and NC) spanning from 1976 to 2019. Generalized additive models (GAM) were used to estimate age-0 recruitment trends. Veliparib concentration Spatial and temporal synchrony analyses were then conducted using annual GAM-predicted values to determine if trends were similar between estuaries in close proximity, and if declines occurred at the same time. Because the species is dependent on physical transport (i.e., winds and tides) for recruitment, hourly wind speed, wind direction, water temperature, and air temperature were obtained for estuaries with non-zero sampling totals and long-term data sets. Only six estuaries showed significant relationships between age-0 flounder indices and growing degree days. However, all estuaries with wind data showed significant relationships between age-0 flounder indices and hourly summed wind speed. Southern flounder also have environmental sex determination, meaning warming estuaries could also account for population changes and declines. We document that water temperatures in the same space and time where southern flounder sexually determine are warmer now than even a decade ago, which could masculinize populations and substantially change population demographics. These results illustrate the vulnerability of estuarine finfish populations to climate change and increased climate variability. Understanding how climate acts on southern flounder biology may help managers respond to and prevent fishery collapses.

To investigate which morality traits are more important for nurses to determine positive opinions of their nurse manager.

People selected morality more often than sociability and competence when forming a positive opinion towards an ideal or a newcomer manager.

A multicentre, cross-sectional study was carried out by administering two questionnaires to 775 nurses on the influence of morality, sociability and competence traits on their impression formation processes.

Regarding nurses' perceptions about the morality, sociability and competence traits of an ideal nurse manager, the total score for morality was 20.0; for sociability, it was 14.2; and for competence, it was 19.6. For nurses' opinions about a new nurse manager, the total score of the morality section was 16.2, which was very similar to the total score of the competence section (mean=16.1).

Morality positively influences nurses' initial impression of an ideal manager, and though it seems to be a necessary condition, it is not sufficient by itself to support the nursing staff's perception towards a new manager.

Our findings could be useful in better understanding the role of morality in social perceptions and behavioural consequences of staff nurses towards their nurse manager.

Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), alone or in combination, remains the mainstay of first-line treatment for advanced prostate cancer. Key findings of extensive research and randomized controlled trials have shaped current clinical practice and influenced clinical guideline recommendations. We describe here the recent trend of ADT in newly diagnosed prostate cancer for Asia focusing on Japan (high-income country) and Malaysia (middle-income country) based on the Asian Prostate Cancer (A-CaP) Study. The combination of radiotherapy and ADT or ADT alone was common in patients with intermediate-to-high risk localized and locally advanced disease. For metastatic prostate cancer, maximum androgen blockade (gonadotrophin-releasing hormone [GnRH] agonist/antagonist plus antiandrogen) was prevalent among the Japanese patients while primary ADT alone with GnRH agonist/antagonist was widely practiced in the Malaysian cohort.
