We evaluated the methodological issues of these SRMAs. A protocol was developed in advance. Three databases were searched from inception to October 2019 for SRMAs published in major academic journals of sleep medicine that assessed healthcare interventions. The AMSTAR 2.0 instrument was used to evaluate the methodological issues and a multivariable regression analysis was conducted to investigate potential measures associated with methodological validity. We identified 163 SRMAs. The median number of missing safeguards of these SRMAs was 7 out of 16 (Interquartile range, IQR 6-9), and on average, two of these missing safeguards were critical weaknesses. Our regression analysis suggested that SRMAs published in recent years (β = 0.16; 95%CI 0.08, 0.24; p = 0.002), with the first author from Europe (β = 0.08; 95%CI 0.02, 0.14; p = 0.013) tend to have higher relative methodological ranks. link= see more In conclusion, the methodological validity for current SRMAs in sleep medicine was poor. Studies have identified several mRNA modifications that have contributed to the functional characterization of various cardiac diseases. RNA methylation, such as N6-methyladenosine, N1-methyladenosine, 5-methylcytosine, N7-methylguanosine, N4-acetylcytidine, and 2'-O-methylation are novel epigenetic modifications that affect the regulation of cell growth, immunity, DNA damage, calcium signaling, apoptosis, and aging in cardiomyocytes. In this review, we summarize the role of RNA methylation in the pathophysiology of CVDs and the potential of using epigenetics to treat such disorders.

Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a major global health concern comprising a cluster of co-occurring conditions that increase the risk of heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. MS is usually diagnosed using a combination of physiochemical indexes (such as BMI, abdominal circumference and blood pressure) but largely ignores clinical symptoms when investigating prevention and treatment of the disease. Exploring predictors of MS using multiple diagnostic indicators may improve early diagnosis and treatment of MS. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) attaches importance to the etiology of disease symptoms and indications using four diagnostic methods, which have long been used to treat metabolic disease. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to develop predictive indicators for MS using both physiochemical indexes and TCM methods.

The Ang-(1-7)/Mas receptor axis reportedly plays protective roles in various tissue inflammation and remodeling processes in vivo. However, the exact role of Mas receptor and their underlying mechanisms during the pathology of acute allergic airway inflammation remains unclear.

We investigated the role of Mas receptor in acute allergic asthma and explored its underlying mechanisms in vitro, aiming to find critical molecules and signal pathways.

Mas receptor expression was assessed in ovalbumin (OVA)-induced acute asthmatic murine model. Then we estimated the anti-inflammatory role of Mas receptor in vivo and explored expressions of several known inflammatory cytokines as well as phosphorylation levels of MAPK pathways. Mas receptor functions and underficantly attenuated CCL2 dependent macrophage recruitments in acute allergic airway inflammation through JNK pathways, which indicated that Mas receptor, CCL2 and phospho-JNK could be potential targets against allergic airway inflammation.

Using wrist-worn actigraphy, we examined objective measures of sleep over a 14-day surveillance period from fifty-nine, male, Middle-Eastern elite youth football players (age range 12.1 to 16 years).

The observed median sleep duration was approximately 5.5 to 6h during weekdays and 6.5 to 7.5h over weekend days. Sleep intermissions resulting in two or more periods of sleep accounted for 8% and 17% of the data during weekdays and weekends, respectively.

Sleep complaints are frequent after acute COVID-19. Aim of this study was to videopolysomnographically evaluate sleep and sleep disorders after SARS-Cov2 infection.

Patients with suspected sleep disorders after acute COVID-19 underwent video-polysomnography (v-PSG) at the Sleep Disorders Clinic, Department of Neurology, Medical University Innsbruck. V-PSG was conducted 4.2 (SD=1.3) months after diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Eleven patients [nine men, age 52.5 (SD=11.7) years; BMI 29 (SD=5.2) kg/m

] were included. At 60 days follow-up after diagnosis, persisting breathing complaints were present in 7/11 (64%) patients. After v-PSG four patients (36%) were diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Respiratory frequency during sleep was normal and no tachypnea, thoracoabdominal asynchrony, or periodic deep sighing were detected. Four patients (36%) showed REM sleep without atonia (RWA), and two additional patients showed an RWA index within the highest range of normality.

Idiopathic hypersomnia (IH) is a rare orphan disease characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness, frequently accompanied by prolonged nocturnal sleep and difficulties awakening, termed sleep inertia or sleep drunkenness. Severe sleepiness usually causes a greater handicap than manifestations of narcolepsy.

Forty-three IH patients (17 male, mean age 42.8±SD 12.2 years, range 20-67), diagnosed in the past 20 years according to ICSD-2 or ICSD-3 criteria were invited for clinical examination to evaluate the course, manifestations and severity of the disease, as well as clinical comorbidities. The patients completed a set of questionnaires scoring sleepiness, sleep inertia, fatigue, depression, anxiety, circadian preference, and quality of life.

IH patients were divided according to the duration of nocturnal sleep at the time of their diagnosis into two cohorts (1) with normal sleep duration (n=25, 58.1%) and (2) with long sleep duration (n=18, 41.9%). We report three DSWPD patients who were successfully treated by the combination therapy of suvorexant and ramelteon. The first case was a 19-year-old woman who was experiencing difficulties in sleep initiation, difficulty in waking up in the morning, and daytime somnolence. link2 She showed a prompt response to the combination therapy of suvorexant and ramelteon. Her sleep phase advanced, and her daytime somnolence reduced. The second and third cases were 21-year-old and 17-year-old men, respectively, who also showed significant sleep phase advances. Although case 2 was resistant to ramelteon treatment, his sleep phase advanced after suvorexant started. His difficulty in falling asleep and his habit of daytime napping disappeared after the combination therapy of suvorexant and ramelteon was started. Case 3 also showed a prompt response. His difficulties in falling asleep and waking up in the morning were ameliorated immediately after suvorexant with ramelteon was started. link3 No obvious side effects were observed. Therapy using the combination therapy of suvorexant and ramelteon might be a reasonable option for DSWPD patients.
