Mutual-aid groups are a central part of many individuals' recovery journeys from substance addiction, and this research aimed to identify the key ingredients of a diverse range of recovery groups.

Individuals from 30 different substance addiction recovery groups across the UK (

 = 151, 66% male,

age = 42.5 years) completed a survey, which asked participants to provide a narrative about their recovery group experiences. Participants were also asked to rate the extent to which theorized ingredients of addiction recovery groups were offered by their group, and how important each was to them. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected and analyzed.

The results indicated that the recovery group components suggested in previous literature were both present and rated as important. Component ratings did not differ depending on the type of group, the length of time the person had been in recovery, nor the length of time they had been involved in the group. Overall, the findings provide an in-depth, person-focused perspective on what makes an addiction recovery group successful. Flows with a decreasing proportion of time windows defined by a flow speed less then 15.1 mm s-1 for longer than 0.03 s correlated to decreased biofouling growth and survival. Describe the pre-operative and post-operative stages of physical therapy examination, rehabilitation interventions and outcomes in craniopagus conjoined twins (CCT).

27-months old total vertical types III CCT were admitted for surgical treatment. A structured rehabilitation program (functional mobility, balance training, sensory stimulation, communication, orthotic management, and caregiver education) was delivered post-operatively at different stages of surgery. The total duration of post-separation rehabilitation was 15 months for Twin A and 23 months for Twin B.

Pre-operative WeeFIM was 67/126 for both the twins. Post-separation, Twin A improved to a state of complete independence in walking, step climbing, and hand function with a discharge WeeFIM score of 84/126. However, Twin B was completely dependent in bed mobility and transfer activities during discharge (WeeFIM-18/126). Minimal change in functional status was noted in Twin B (discharge FSS score-19/30). Both the twins were transferred to a regional hospital for long-term care. At 67 months of age, Twin B lost his life due to chest infection.

The conflicting results of studies on intensive care unit (ICU) mortality of obese patients and obese patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) reveal a paradox within a paradox. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of body mass index and obesity on AKI development and ICU mortality.

The 4,459 patients treated between January 2015 and December 2019 in the ICU at a Tertiary Care Center in Turkey were analyzed retrospectively.

AKI developed more in obese patients with 69.8% (620). AKI development rates were similar in normal-weight (65.1%; 1172) and overweight patients (64.9%; 1149). The development of AKI in patients who presented with cerebrovascular diseases was higher in obese patients (81; 76.4%) than in normal-weight (158; 62.7%) and overweight (174; 60.8%) patients (

 < 0.05). The risk of developing AKI was approximately 1.4 times (CI 95% = 1.177-1.662) higher in obese patients than in normal-weight patients. Dialysis was used more frequently in obese patients (24.3%,

 < 0.001), who stayed longer in the ICU (

 < 0.05). It was determined that the development of AKI in normal-weight and overweight patients increased mortality (

 < 0.001) and that there was not a difference in mortality rates between obese patients with and without AKI.

High mutation rate leading to viral quasispecies combined with frequent intra- and inter-typic recombination events amongst co-circulating EV-A71 strains have contributed to the great diversity and fast evolution of EV-A71 genomes, making impossible any accurate prediction of the next epidemic strain. Comparative genome sequence analyses and mutagenesis approaches have led to the identification of a number of viral determinants involved in EV-A71 fitness and virulence. These viral determinants include amino acid residues located in the structural proteins of the virus, affecting attachment to the host cell surface, receptor binding, and uncoating events. Critical residues in non-structural proteins have also been identified, including 2C, 3A, 3C proteases and the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. Finally, mutations altering key secondary structures in the 5' untranslated region were also found to influence EV-A71 fitness and virulence. While our current understanding of EV-A71 pathogenesis remains fragmented, these studies may help in the rational design of effective treatments and broadly protective vaccine candidates.
