CITED2 (CBP/p300-interacting transactivator with Glu/Asp-rich C-terminal domain, 2) is a ubiquitously expressed protein exhibiting a high affinity for the CH1 domain of the transcriptional co-activators CBP/p300, for which it competes with hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs). CITED2 is particularly efficient in the inhibition of HIF-1α-dependent transcription in different contexts, ranging from organ development and metabolic homeostasis to tissue regeneration and immunity, being also potentially involved in various other physiological processes. Some of these questions have already been answered, while others require more investigations.In this era of climate change, novel nature-based solutions, like the daylighting (de-culverting) of streams, that enhance the socio-ecological resilience are gaining prominence. Yet, the growing body of literature on stream daylighting spreads over an array of seemingly disconnected disciplines and lacks consistency in the terminology and the definitions of the practice. Moreover, nearly all the literature review studies on stream daylighting (mostly produced since 2000) underscore, as their point of departure, the daylighting projects rather than a review of the literature's content per se. Therefore, this study reassesses the literature on stream daylighting with a particular focus on its role, as a nature-based solution, for climate change mitigation and adaptation and for socio-environmental justice. We combine the systematic literature review (an all-encompassing review of the available literature on stream daylighting) with the inductive content analysis (an in-depth analysis of this literature's nature). Accordingly, we investigate all the relevant English-language publications since the first peer reviewed article on stream daylighting was published in 1992 until the end of 2018 to analyze four themes the disciplines and sub-disciplines of the literature; the terminologies and synonyms of stream daylighting; the definitions of stream daylighting; and the case studies tackled in the literature.•We develop a method that combines a systematic review of the stream daylighting literature and inductive content analysis.•The method provides insights on the stream daylighting's literature's disciplines, terminologies, synonyms and case studies.•The method is adaptable particularly, to nascent areas of study where sources' numbers range between 100-200.
To evaluate the effect of double level osteotomy (DLO), a combination of a lateral closed distal femoral osteotomy (LCWDFO) and medial opening wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO), on patellar height and patellofemoral alignment as compared to those of isolated MOWHTO.
Twenty-six consecutive knees in 26 patients who underwent DLO (DLO group) constituted the study population. For comparative purpose, a control cohort (N 26) matched for age, sex, and body mass index with the study group were selected from the patients who underwent isolated MOWHTO with an opening gap of more than 10mm during the same period (MOWHTO group). Patellar height and patellofemoral alignment were assessed on radiographs preoperatively and at 2 years after surgery. For the patellar height, following parameters were measured on a lateral radiograph Modified Insall-Salvati Index (mISI), modified Caton-Deschamps Index (mCDI), and modified Blackburne-Peel Index (mBPI). This case highlights the challenges that respiratory viruses impose on the diagnosis of fungal infections and on the multidisciplinary management of these infections. In addition, this case shows how medical complications and superinfections could be potentially prevented if flu vaccination is provided.In July 2018, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) implemented a new Public health Agency rule prohibiting the use of tobacco in and within 25 feet of HUD housing. A convenience sample of 574 residents living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin multi-unit HUD complexes completed a survey from May through July 2019, designed to assess their perceptions of the new policy and its impact. Knowledge of the policy was strong, although continued educational efforts are needed. Attitudes about the policy were generally positive, although smokers held more negative attitudes than non-smokers. Some residents desired more and fairer policy enforcement. Most residents reported that smoke incursions were reduced post policy compared to pre policy, although such incursions still occurred. The policy has had a favorable health impact on smokers; over 80% made at least one positive change in their smoking, including 6.4% who said the policy motivated them to quit. There was no evidence that residents with mobility challenges were differentially affected by the policy. Overall, the HUD smoke-free policy was well received, reduced self-reported exposure to smoke and led most smokers to make positive changes in their smoking. Additional education on the policy, improved enforcement, and cessation services are needed.The objective of this study was to examine changes in drinking behavior after Hurricane Sandy among 3199 World Trade Center Health Registry (Registry) enrollees before (2011-12) and after Hurricane Sandy (2015-16). A composite Sandy exposure scale (none, low, medium and high) included Sandy traumatic experiences, financial and other factors. Probable Sandy-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) was defined as scoring ≥44 on PTSD Checklist, and binge drinking as consuming ≥5 alcoholic drinks for men or ≥4 for women on one occasion in the past 30 days. Some of the enrollees reported binge drinking post Sandy as new binge drinkers (4.7%) or consistent binge drinkers pre- and post-Sandy (19%). Compared with non-binge drinkers pre- and post-Sandy (66.9%), the adjusted odds ratios (aOR) for being new binge drinkers and consistent binge drinkers among high Sandy exposure enrollees were 2.1 (95%CI 1.1-4.1) and 2.5 (95%CI 1.7-3.6), respectively. High Sandy traumatic experience alone was associated with consistent binge drinking (aOR 1.9, 95%CI 1.4-2.6). Among enrollees without 9/11 PTSD, those with Sandy PTSD were more likely to become new binge drinkers (aOR 4.4, 95%CI 1.4-13.9), while Sandy PTSD was not associated with any binge drinking behavior changes among those with 9/11 PTSD. Sandy exposure, Sandy traumatic experience, and Sandy PTSD were all associated with higher binge drinking intensity. Future natural disaster response should plan for treatment to address alcohol use and PTSD simultaneously.
Despite considerable achievements associated with the MDGs, under-five mortality, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, remains alarmingly high. Globally, intimate partner violence (IPV) affects one in three women within their lifetime. Little is known about the relationship between IPV and maternal care-seeking in the context of high rates of under-five mortality, particularly among young women and adolescent girls in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Data from the Kenya Demographic Health Survey (2008-2009) were limited to a sample of women aged 15-24 years (n=1,406) with a child under-five who had experienced IPV in the last 12 months. Using multivariate logistic regression, we constructed three models 1) base model; 2) controlling for type of residence (urban/rural); and 3) controlling for wealth status and education attainment, to estimate odds ratios (ORs) for the association between IPV and ten maternal care-seeking behaviors.
Thirty-eight percent of the women had experienced some form of ie success of reducing child mortality and improving maternal health outcomes. The implementation of joint programming and development of combination interventions to effectively reduce the risk of exposure to IPV and promote maternal care-seeking behavior are needed to improve child morbidity and mortality in LMICs.There are few studies reporting diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) caused by hypertensive emergency. We describe a 41-year-old man who visited the emergency room with hemoptysis and dyspnea. He had a 5-year history of hypertension, though he had not received any treatment. His blood pressure was 233/159 mmHg, his percutaneous oxygen saturation level was 88% on room air, and he had a serum creatinine level of 11.7 mg/dL. Laboratory data showed microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and severe kidney damage, suggesting thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA). Chest computed tomography and bronchoalveolar lavage revealed pulmonary alveolar hemorrhage. In addition to steroid treatment and plasma exchange, antihypertensive therapy was started immediately. On day 3, activity of a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin type 1 motif, member 13 (ADAMTS13) activity was not significantly reduced, and clinical markers for vasculitis and connective tissue disease were negative. Therefore, steroid administration and plasma exchange were discontinued.
