As a base polymer for the investigated nanocomposites, ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene, processed in a solid state (below melting point), was used. Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were used as a nanofiller forming a highly segregated structure in between polymer particles. A numerical multiscale approach based on the finite element method was proposed to predict changes in the conductive structure composed of MWCNTs in response to uniaxial deformation of the material. At the nanoscale, numerical simulations were conducted for uniformly distributed MWCNTs providing confinement of the filler to a two-dimensional layer with a high volume fraction of the filler in between two polymer particles. At the microscale, the piezoresistive response to uniaxial deformation for the three-dimensional highly segregated structure reconstructed from experimental data was investigated numerically. The embedded element method was implemented to conduct a realistic and computationally efficient simulation of MWCNT behavior during deformation of the nanocomposite. The results of numerical simulations were compared with the experimental data to prove the correctness of assumptions used in the modeling.Young adults face different stressors in their transition to college. We aimed to explore the relation between the populations' dietary patterns and blood pressure, glycemic and lipidemic profile. Dietary patterns were extracted via Principal Component Analysis (PCA), based on data collected from two 24 h dietary recalls for the TEENAGE study and a 3-day food consumption diary for the STANISLAS study. Multiple linear regressions and mixed models analyses, adjusting for confounding factors, were employed to investigate potential associations. A total of 766 Greek teenagers and 287 French teenagers, were included in analyses. Five dietary patterns were extracted for each population accounting for 49.35% and 46.69% of their respective total variance, with similarities regarding the consumption of specific food groups (i.e., western-type foods). In the TEENAGE Study, the "chicken and sugars" pattern was associated with lower CRP levels, after adjusting for confounding factors (p-value less then 0.01). The "high protein and animal fat" dietary pattern of the STANISLAS Family Study was related to higher BMI (p-value less then 0.01) and higher triglycerides levels (p-value less then 0.01). Tualang, Gelam and Kelulut honeys were found to possess a wide variety of biological effects attributed to their physicochemical characteristics. Findings revealed that these honeys have anti-diabetic, anti-obesity, anti-cancer, anti-oxidative, anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties and effects on the cardiovascular system, nervous system and reproductive system. Rutaecarpine was administered orally daily for seven consecutive days, followed by intraperitoneal injection of acetaminophen in mice on day seven to induce hepatotoxicity. Rutaecarpine pretreatment significantly decreased acetaminophen-induced serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT)/aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activities and hepatic malondialdehyde content and prevented acetaminophen-induced hepatic glutathione depletion. Furthermore, CYP2E1 expression was decreased by rutaecarpine pretreatment in a dose-dependent manner. Rutaecarpine pretreatment inhibited acetaminophen-induced expression of inflammatory cytokines by inhibiting NF-κB activation by JNK1/2. Also, rutaecarpine pretreatment promoted Nrf2-mediated activation of the antioxidant enzymes GCLC, HO-1, and NQO1. Existing databases for tRNA sequencing provide near exhaustive listings of tRNA genes, but the use of such highly redundant reference sequences in RNA-seq analyses leads to a large number of ambiguously mapped sequencing reads. Here we describe a relatively simple computational strategy for semi-automatic collapsing of highly redundant tRNA datasets into a non-redundant collection of reference tRNA sequences. The relevance of the approach was validated by analysis of experimentally obtained tRNA-sequencing datasets for different prokaryotic and eukaryotic model organisms. The data demonstrate that non-redundant tRNA reference sequences allow improving unambiguous mapping of deep sequencing data.
