The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak has affected individuals worldwide. Considering the nature of dental treatments and direct exposure to saliva, blood, aerosols, or droplets from infected individuals, dentists are at significant risk of COVID-19 infection. Therefore, to decrease aerosol-generating procedures, minimally invasive dentistry (MID) is recommended during this pandemic. The goal of this research was to compare the flow of patients during a pandemic at a single university hospital in Jeddah City, Saudi Arabia, and to retrospectively assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on pediatric dental treatments including MID.

This study was a retrospective cross-sectional analysis of pediatric patient records, dental procedures performed, and minimally invasive techniques using the database of the King Abdul-Aziz University Dental Hospital (R4) system during the period of COVID 19 pandemic compared to the same period in the previous year.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, pediatric dentaldata, the COVID-19 pandemic had an impact on dental patient flow and the type of dental procedures performed on children. Minimally invasive treatments that minimize air generation are recommended; however, to establish the long-term effectiveness of minimally invasive treatments in pediatric dentistry, more follow-up studies with bigger sample sizes are required. More recommendations regarding conservative pediatric dental management after the COVID-19 era are suggested.

No studies have investigated if drinking water nitrate affects human fecundity. Experimental studies point at detrimental effects on fetal development and on female and male reproduction. This cohort study aimed to explore if female and male preconception and long-term exposure to nitrate in drinking water was associated with fecundability measured as time to pregnancy (TTP) or use of medically assisted reproduction (MAR) treatment.

The study population consisted of pregnant women recruited in their first trimester in 1996-2002 to the Danish National Birth Cohort. Preconception drinking-water nitrate exposure was estimated for the pregnant women (89,109 pregnancies), and long-term drinking water nitrate exposure was estimated from adolescence to conception for the pregnant women (77,474 pregnancies) and their male partners (62,000 pregnancies) by linkage to the national drinking water quality-monitoring database Jupiter. Difference in risk of TTP >12 months or use of MAR treatment between five exposure categories and log-transformed continuous models of preconception and long-term nitrate in drinking water were estimated. Binominal regression models for risk ratios (RR) were adjusted for age, occupation, education, population density, and lifestyle factors.

Nitrate in drinking water (median preconception exposure 1.9 mg/L; median long-term exposure 3.3 mg/L) was not associated with TTP >12 months or use of MAR treatment, neither in the categorical nor in the continuous models.

We found no association between preconception or long-term exposure to drinking water nitrate and fecundability.

We found no association between preconception or long-term exposure to drinking water nitrate and fecundability.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is associated with increased risk of disability pension. How socioeconomic status (SES) impacts the risk of disability pension after a VTE is unknown. The aim of this nationwide population based cohort study to investigate the interaction between SES and incident VTE on the risk of subsequent disability pension.

Using Danish national medical and administrative databases, we established a nationwide cohort of 41,781 individuals aged 25-65 years with incident VTE during 1995-2016 and a comparison cohort (n=208,905) from the general population matched on year of birth, sex, and calendar year of VTE. We computed incidence rates (IRs) as the number of disability pension events per 1000 person-years at risk and measured the interaction between VTE and levels of SES (high, medium, low) on an additive scale by calculating interaction contrasts (difference in IR difference).

Among individuals with high SES, the disability pension IR per 1000 person-years was 5.4 (95% CI 4.8-6.1) in the VTE cohort and 1.6 (95% CI 1.5-1.7) in the comparison cohort (IR difference 3.8). The corresponding disability pension IR in individuals with low SES was 55.1 (95% CI 52.1-58.1) in the VTE cohort and 26.1 (95% CI 25.1-27.1) in the comparison cohort (IR difference 24.0). An interaction contrast of 25.1 indicated that interaction accounted for 45.6% (25.1/55.1) of the disability pension IR in individuals with VTE and low SES.

SES and VTE interact to increase the risk of disability pension after VTE beyond their independent effects.

Lung metastasis is a common metastasis site of colorectal cancer which largely reduces the quality of life and survival rates of patients. The discovery of potential novel diagnostic biomarkers is very meaningful for the early diagnosis of colorectal cancer with lung metastasis.

In the present study, the metabonomic profiling of serum samples of lung metastasis mice was analyzed by

H-nuclear magnetic resonance (

H-NMR). Principal component analysis (PCA), partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), and orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) were used to elucidate the distinguishing metabolites between different groups, and all achieved excellent separations, which indicated that metastatic mice could be differentiated from control mice based on the metabolic profiles at serum levels. Furthermore, during lung metastasis of colorectal cancer, metabolic phenotypes changed significantly, and some of metabolites were identified.

Among these metabolites, approximately 15 were closely associated with the lung metastasis process. Pathway enrichment analysis results showed deregulation of metabolic pathways participating in the process of lung metastasis, such as synthesis and degradation of ketone bodies pathway, amino acid metabolism pathway and pyruvate metabolism pathway.

The present study demonstrated the metabolic disturbances of serum samples of mice during the lung metastasis process of colorectal cancer and provides potential diagnostic biomarkers for the disease.

Colorectal cancer is one of the commonest types of malignant neoplasm with an estimated 935,000 deaths in 2020 worldwide. In Ethiopia, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer with an incidence of 8/100,000 person-years. Despite studies related to the burden of colorectal cancer, data of mortality related to colorectal cancer are limited and unknown in the study areas. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the incidence of mortality and associated factors among colorectal cancer patients who were followed-up at oncology units of Northwest Amhara hospitals, Ethiopia.

A retrospective cohort study was conducted among 367 study participants from January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2020 at oncology units of Northwest Amhara hospitals. Data were entered into EPi-data 4.2.0.0 and transferred to STATA version 14 statistical software for statistical analysis. The Cox regression model was used to identify factors associated with mortality. Smoothened agonist All variables with P-value < 0.2 during bi-variable analysn of mortality.

Incidence of colorectal cancer mortality was high. Sex, residency, carcinoembryonic antigen level, time to health care visit, time to confirmed diagnosis, and recurrence significantly increased incidence of mortality. Therefore, creating awareness of colorectal cancer and expanding cancer treatment centers could have paramount importance in reducing the burden of mortality.

Both percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) and open fenestration discectomy (OFD) are effective and safe surgical procedures for the treatment of LDH. The purpose of this retrospective study was to compare the surgical outcomes of percutaneous endoscopic interlaminar discectomy (PEID) and OFD for single-segment huge lumbar disc herniation (HLDH).

We retrospectively analyzed 91 patients diagnosed with single-segment HLDH and treated with OFD or PEID. Visual analog scale (VAS), modified Japanese orthopedic association (mJOA) and Oswestry disability index (ODI) were used to assess clinical outcomes at preoperation and postoperatively at 3, 6, 12, and 24months. Modified Macnab criteria were applied to evaluate clinically satisfaction at the final follow-up.

In both groups, the VAS and ODI scores at 3, 6, 12, and 24months postoperatively showed a significant decrease and the mJOA score at 3, 6, 12, and 24months postoperatively was significantly increased compared to preoperative results (

<0.0ostoperative clinical results were equally favorable for both procedures, with no statistically significant difference between PEID and OFD at the two-year of follow-up. No serious complication was observed in two groups. Compared with the traditional surgery, PEID has the following benefits less trauma, less bleeding, speedy recovery, and shorter hospitalization. Therefore, PEID may be a promising alternative to traditional surgery.

Macrophage polarization contributes to the mechanisms of treating knee osteoarthritis (KOA). In previous studies, fire needling acupuncture has been shown to affect KOA favorably. However, the mechanism of fire needling acupuncture on macrophage polarization is not well-defined. Thus, this study was conducted to determine that fire needling acupuncture exerts a therapeutic role in KOA by modulating macrophage polarization.

Thirty mice were allocated at random into three groups of ten. The groups were labeled as "control", "model", and "fire needling acupuncture". Each group consisted of ten mice. From the second day of intra-articular injection MIA, the right "xiyan" (EX-LE5), "dubi" (ST35), "liangqiu" (ST34), and "xuehai" (SP10) acupoints were manipulated once every other day for two weeks in the fire needling acupuncture group. Mechanical withdrawal threshold and weight distribution were evaluated for behavioral testing in each group. The synovial morphology was monitored by HE staining. Pathological molage damage.

The objective of this study was to survey current clinical practice related to lumbar radiofrequency (RFA) for the treatment of zygapophyseal (facet)-mediated low back pain.

Survey questions regarding the clinical practice of lumbar RFA were created and piloted by the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience (ASPN) leadership. After revision for clarity, health-care professionals worldwide who hold membership status within the ASPN Society and who offer lumbar RFA in their clinical practice were recruited to participate in this online survey. All responses were tabulated and summarized descriptively.

A total of 329 participants responded in the survey. Most participants specialized in anesthesiology (68.4%) and physical medicine and rehabilitation (21.8%) and had been practicing pain management for more than five years (70.5%). Of physician respondents, 27.5% did not complete an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited pain medicine fellowship and 16.5% were not board-certified in pain medicine.
