Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease due to the depletion of the neurotransmitter dopamine in basal ganglia. There is a scarcity of available therapies for motor and non-motor symptoms of PD. Zonisamide (ZNS) may be one such potential candidate to alleviate PD symptoms. It was serendipitously found to be useful for PD in a patient with both epilepsy and PD. Since then, there have been many clinical trials, case series, observational studies, and case reports published supporting the efficacy of ZNS in PD. A predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria were used for the search protocol and databases searched were PubMed, Cochrane Library, Ovid, and clinicaltrials.gov. Currently, there are challenges and lack of innovations regarding early diagnosis and therapeutic options within different aspects of management of patients suffering from chronic pancreatitis (CP). Use of EV as biomarkers for pancreatic health and/or as adjuvant therapy would make a difference in management of these patients. The aim of this study was to characterize the miRNA cargo of EV purified from the plasma of CP patients and compared to those of healthy participants. EVs were isolated from plasma of 15 CP patients and 10 healthy controls. Nanoparticle tracking analysis was used to determine frequency and size, while NanoString technology was used to characterize the miRNA cargo. Relevant clinical parameters were correlated with EV miRNA cargo. ~ 30 miRNA species were identified to have significantly (p  less then  0.05) different expression in EV from individuals with CP compared to healthy individuals; ~ 40 miRNA were differentially expressed in EV from pre-diabetic versus non-diabetic CP patients. miR-579-3p, while exhibiting significantly lower (~ 16-fold) expression in CP compared to healthy and lower (~ 24-fold) in CP narcotic users compared to the non-users, is actually enriched (~ 32-fold) within EV in pre-diabetic CP patients compared to non-diabetic CP patients. A unique pattern was identified in female CP patients. These data support the prospect of using a plasma-derived EV cargo to assess pancreatic health and its therapeutic potential in CP patients.The purpose of the current study was to conduct a qualitative and experimental analysis of a culturally informed police safety skills training for adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). These results provide a critical caregiver-informed perspective on factors influencing satisfaction with specialized autism services during COVID-19.To understand the perspectives and needs of autistic children and their families in the context of an emergency, 109 parents and 56 autistic children (5.75-18 years) from Canada completed an online survey about needs, barriers and facilitators to coping with the pandemic. Parents' concerns about their child's development and difficulties managing their child's behaviors before and during pandemic were significantly associated. Parents identified maintaining social relationships and implementing appropriate interventions to their child's characteristics as facilitators during the pandemic. Both children and parents identified lack of socialization as a main difficulty. Among children, 92.9% associated electronic devices with their well-being. Poor oral health literacy (OHL) may be a hindrance in achieving good oral health. This systematic review summarizes the current quantitative evidence regarding OHL of migrants and ethnic minority populations. The PubMed database was searched for original quantitative studies that explore OHL as a holistic multidimensional construct or at least one of its subdimensions in migrants and ethnic minority populations. 34 publications were selected. Only 2 studies specifically addressed OHL in migrant populations. Generally, participants without migration background had higher OHL than migrant and ethnic minority populations. The latter showed lower dental service utilization, negative oral health beliefs, negative oral health behavior, and low levels of oral health knowledge. Understanding their health profile is needed to identify their needs, provide care and secure resources without affecting the healthcare of nationals. We quantified the burden of multimorbidity and disability in the Venezuelan population in Peru. We analyzed the 2018 Survey of Venezuelan Population Living in Peru; population-based with random sampling survey in six cities in Peru. Participants were asked about the presence of 12 chronic conditions (self-reported); this information was grouped into 0, 1 and ≥ 2 conditions (i.e., multimorbidity). Disability was also ascertained with a self-reported questionnaire adapted from the short version of the Washington Group on Disability Statistics. Socioeconomic variables were analyzed as potential determinants. Variables were described with frequencies and 95% confidence interval (95% CI), compared with Chi2 test, and preventive care for these migrants, while also securing primary prevention to delay the onset of chronic conditions in this population.Immigrant clinicians are vital to population healthcare delivery and therefore population health. Given the volume and significance of immigrant clinicians, engagement of these clinicians, in both community and nation-wide efforts to increase HPVV, is a necessary step for improving and achieving the national health goal of optimizing HPVV for cancer prevention.Delayed cerebral vasospasm (DCVS), early brain injury (EBI), and delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) are devastating complications after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Interleukin (IL)-6 seems to be an important interleukin in the inflammatory response after SAH, and many studies describe a strong correlation between IL-6 and worse outcome. The aim of this study was to systematically review preclinical and clinical studies that evaluated systemic and cerebral IL-6 levels after SAH and their relation to DCVS, neuronal cell death, and DCI. We conducted two systematic literature searches using PubMed to identify preclinical and clinical studies evaluating the role of IL-6 after SAH. Suitable articles were selected based on predefined eligibility criteria following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. A total of 61 and 30 preclinical and clinical articles, respectively, were included in the systematic reviews. Of the preclinical studies in which IL-6 was measured in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), parenchyma, and systemically, 100%, 94.4%, and 81.3%, respectively, showed increased expression of IL-6 after SAH. Preclinical results were mirrored by clinical findings in which elevated levels of IL-6 in CSF and plasma were found after SAH, correlating with DCVS, DCI, and worse outcome. Only two preclinical studies analyzed the direct inhibition of IL-6, which resulted in reduced DCVS and neuronal cell death. IL-6 is a marker of intracranial inflammation and plays a role in the pathophysiology of DCVS and DCI after SAH in preclinical animal models and clinical studies. Its inhibition might have therapeutic potential to improve the outcome of SAH patients.SARS-CoV-2 mutants carrying the ∆H69/∆V70 deletion in the amino-terminal domain of the Spike protein emerged independently in at least six lineages of the virus (namely, B.1.1.7, B.1.1.298, B.1.160, B.1.177, B.1.258, B.1.375). We analyzed SARS-CoV-2 samples collected from various regions of Slovakia between November and December 2020 that were presumed to contain B.1.1.7 variant due to drop-out of the Spike gene target in an RT-qPCR test caused by this deletion. Sequencing of these samples revealed that although in some cases the samples were indeed confirmed as B.1.1.7, a substantial fraction of samples contained another ∆H69/∆V70 carrying mutant belonging to the lineage B.1.258, which has been circulating in Central Europe since August 2020, long before the import of B.1.1.7. Phylogenetic analysis shows that the early sublineage of B.1.258 acquired the N439K substitution in the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the Spike protein and, later on, also the deletion ∆H69/∆V70 in the Spike N-terminal domain (NTD).
