Pelagophyceae were particularly abundant towards the end of autumn (May). In addition of Micromonas polaris and Micromonas sp. clade B3, both previously reported in Arctic waters, we detected a new Micromonas 18S rRNA sequence signature, close to, but clearly distinct from M. polaris, which potentially represents a new clade specific of the Antarctic. These results highlight the need for complementary strategies as well as the importance of year-round monitoring for a comprehensive description of phytoplankton communities in Antarctic coastal waters. The ecosystem of the Source Region of Yangtze River (SRYR) is highly susceptible to climate change. In this study, the spatial-temporal variation of NPP from 2000 to 2014 was analyzed, using outputs of Carnegie-Ames-Stanford Approach model. Then the correlation characteristics of NPP and climatic factors were evaluated. The results indicate that (1) The average NPP in the SRYR is 100.0 gC/m2 from 2000 to 2014, and it shows an increasing trend from northwest to southeast. The responses of NPP to altitude varied among the regions with the altitude below 3500 m, between 3500 to 4500 m and above 4500 m, which could be attributed to the altitude associated variations of climatic factors and vegetation types; (2) The total NPP of SRYR increased by 0.18 TgC per year in the context of the warmer and wetter climate during 2000-2014. The NPP was significantly and positively correlated with annual temperature and precipitation at interannual time scales. Temperature in February, March, May and September make greater contribution to NPP than that in other months. And precipitation in July played a more crucial role in influencing NPP than that in other months; (3) Climatic factors caused the NPP to increase in most of the SRYR. Impacts of human activities were concentrated mainly in downstream region and is the primary reason for declines in NPP.Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulating is a useful methodology for reduction of experiments and their associated costs. Although the CFD could predict all hydro-thermal parameters of fluid flows, the connections between such parameters with each other are impossible using this approach. Machine learning by the artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm has already shown the ability to intelligently record engineering data. However, there are no studies available to deeply investigate the implicit connections between the variables resulted from the CFD. The present investigation tries to conduct cooperation between the mechanistic CFD and the artificial algorithm. The genetic algorithm is combined with the fuzzy interface system (GAFIS). Turbulent forced convection of Al2O3/water nanofluid in a heated tube is simulated for inlet temperatures (i.e., 305, 310, 315, and 320 K). GAFIS learns nodes coordinates of the fluid, the inlet temperatures, and turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) as inputs. The fluid temperature is learned as output. The number of inputs, population size, and the component are checked for the best intelligence. Finally, at the best intelligence, a formula is developed to make a relationship between the output (i.e. nanofluid temperatures) and inputs (the coordinates of the nodes of the nanofluid, inlet temperature, and TKE). The results revealed that the GAFIS intelligence reaches the highest level when the input number, the population size, and the exponent are 5, 30, and 3, respectively. Adding the turbulent kinetic energy as the fifth input, the regression value increases from 0.95 to 0.98. This means that by considering the turbulent kinetic energy the GAFIS reaches a higher level of intelligence by distinguishing the more difference between the learned data. The CFD and GAFIS predicted the same values of the nanofluid temperature. In this paper, two optimization algorithms (randomly initialized hill climbing and genetic algorithms) are considered to design broadband polarization converters based on coded metasurfaces. A pixeled graphene patch with an elliptic structure is proposed for the initial solution. Each pixel can be 1 and 0 which represents the presence and absence of the graphene. The initial guess tends to the optimum configuration after several optimization processes. Four broadband polarization converters are designed utilizing the optimization algorithms. By changing the chemical potential of graphene, the operation frequency of the polarization converters can be adjusted. Furthermore, the effects of relaxation time of graphene and incident angle on the polarization conversion bandwidth of the four designed structures are investigated.Identification of prognostic factors for swallowing recovery in patients with post-stroke dysphagia is crucial for determining therapeutic strategies. We aimed at exploring hyoid kinematic features of poor swallowing prognosis in patients with post-stroke dysphagia. Of 122 patients who experienced dysphagia following ischemic stroke, 18 with poor prognosis, and 18 age- and sex-matched patients with good prognosis were selected and retrospectively reviewed. Positional data of the hyoid bone during swallowing were obtained from the initial videofluoroscopic swallowing study after stroke onset. Normalized hyoid profiles of displacement/velocity and direction angle were analyzed using functional regression analysis, and maximal or mean values were compared between the good and poor prognosis patient groups. Kinematic analysis showed that maximal horizontal displacement (P = 0.031) and velocity (P = 0.034) in forward hyoid motions were significantly reduced in patients with poor prognosis compared to those with good prognosis. Mean direction angle for the initial swallowing phase was significantly lower in patients with poor prognosis than in those with good prognosis (P = 0.0498). Our study revealed that reduced horizontal forward and altered initial backward motions of the hyoid bone during swallowing can be novel kinematic features indicating poor swallowing prognosis in patients with post-stroke dysphagia.Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) linked with Mannheimia haemolytica is the principal cause of pneumonia in cattle. Diagnosis of BRD traditionally relies on visual assessment, which can be untimely, insensitive, and nonspecific leading to inadequate treatment and further spread of disease. Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) is a rapid acquisition vibrational spectroscopy that can profile changes in biofluids, and when used in combination with multivariate analysis, has potential for disease diagnosis. This study characterizes the NIR spectral profile of blood plasma from dairy calves infected with M. haemolytica and validates the spectral biochemistry using standardized clinical and hematological reference parameters. Blood samples were collected for four days prior to (baseline), and 23 days after, a controlled intrabronchial challenge. NIR spectral profiles of blood plasma discriminated and predicted Baseline and Infected states of animal disease progression with accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity ≥ 90% using PCA-LDA models. Birinapant solubility dmso These results show that physiological and biochemical changes occurring in the bloodstream of dairy calves during M. haemolytica infection are reflected in the NIR spectral profiles, demonstrating the potential of NIRS as a diagnostic and monitoring tool of BRD over time.Whilst the immune system often varies seasonally and exhibits differences between males and females, the general patterns in seasonality and sex differences across taxa have remained controversial. Birds are excellent model organisms to assess these patterns, because the immune system of many species is well characterised. We conducted a meta-analysis using 41 wild bird species from 24 avian families to investigate sex differences and seasonal (breeding/non-breeding) variations in immune status, including white blood cell counts, phytohaemagglutinin (PHA) test, bacteria-killing ability (BKA), haemolysis and haemagglutination assays. We found male-biased macrophage concentration, BKA and haemolysis titers, but only during the breeding season. Sex-specific heterophil concentrations, heterophil/lymphocyte ratios and PHA responses differed between breeding and non-breeding, suggesting larger changes in males than in females. Importantly, sex differences in immune status are stronger during the breeding period than during the non-breeding period. Taken together, our study suggests that both seasonal variation and sex differences in immune system are common in birds, although their associations are more complex than previously thought. The histological classification of lung adenocarcinoma includes 5 types lepidic, acinar, papillary, micropapillary and solid. The complex gene interactions and anticancer immune response of these types are not well known. The aim of this study was to reveal the survival rates, genetic alterations and immune activities of the five histological types and provide treatment strategies. This study reviewed the histological findings of 517 patients with lung adenocarcinoma from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database and classified them into five types. We performed gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) and survival analysis according to the different types. We found six oncogenic gene sets that were higher in lung adenocarcinoma than in normal tissues. In the survival analysis of each type, the acinar type had a favorable prognosis, and the solid subtype had an unfavorable prognosis; however, the survival differences between the other types were not significant. Our study focused on the solid type, which had the poorest prognosis. The solid type was related to adaptive immune resistance associated with elevated CD8 T cells and high CD274 (encoding PD-L1) expression. In the pathway analyses, the solid type was significantly related to high vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-A expression, reflecting tumor angiogenesis. Non-necrosis/low immune response affected by high VEGF-A was associated with worse prognosis. The solid type associated with high VEGF-A expression may contribute to the development of therapeutic strategies for lung adenocarcinoma.Monogalactosyldiacylglycerol (MGDG) is the most abundant type of glycoglycerolipid found in the plant cell membrane and mostly in the chloroplast thylakoid membrane. The amphiphilic nature of MGDG is attractive in pharmaceutical fields for interaction with other biological molecules and hence exerting therapeutic anti-cancer, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory activities. In this study, we investigated the therapeutic efficacy of cyanobacteria derived MGDG to inhibit breast cancer cell growth. MGDG was extracted from a cyanobacteria Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 followed by a subsequent fractionation by column chromatographic technique. The purity and molecular structure of MGDG were analyzed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy analysis. The presence of MGDG in the extracted fraction was further confirmed and quantified by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The anti-proliferation activity of the extracted MGDG molecule was tested against BT-474 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell lines. Thet cancer cells through the apoptosis-mediated pathway.
