Guided bone augmentation often requires extensive releasing of the mucoperiosteal flap to achieve primary wound closure, an invasive procedure that can compromise the keratinized tissue volume and increase patient morbidity. Amnion-chorion membranes have been used to actively promote healing in chronic open-wound situations in the medical field, suggesting that they could be used in a similar manner in the oral cavity. The ability to use open-wound healing techniques for guided bone regeneration would allow clinicians to avoid invasive procedures that cause additional tissue trauma at the surgical site.

Amnion-chorion membranes were applied over the bone grafting material augmenting localized horizontal ridge defects, and a gap between the flaps was left intentionally during healing. No flap releasing procedures were performed in these cases, which demonstrated uneventful soft tissue healing, good volume of bone regeneration and preserved keratinized tissue.

However, no specific hormonal "feedback" regulation for Se status has yet been identified, in contrast to the fine-tuned hormone network regulating Ca2+ and phosphate balance or hepcidin-related iron status. Since its discovery as an essential trace element, the effects of Se excess or deficiency on the endocrine system or components of the hypothalamic-pituitary-periphery feedback circuits, the thyroid hormone axis, glucoregulatory and adrenal hormones, male and female gonads, the musculoskeletal apparatus, and skin have been identified. Analysis of the Se status in the blood or via validated biomarkers such as the hepatically derived selenoprotein P provides valuable diagnostic insight and a rational basis for decision making on required therapeutic or preventive supplementation of risk groups or patients. Endocrine-related epidemiological and interventional evidence linking Se status to beneficial or potentially adverse actions of selected selenoproteins mediating most of the (patho-) physiological effects are discussed in this mini-review. Autoimmune thyroid disease, diabetes and obesity, male fertility, as well as osteoporosis are examples for which observational or interventional studies have indicated Se effects. The currently prevailing concept relating Se and selenoproteins to "oxidative stress," reactive oxygen species, radical hypotheses, and related strategies of pharmacological approaches based on various selenium compounds will not be the focus. Currently, microbiota-gut-brain axis studies cover heterogenous set of infant and child brain developmental phenotypes, while microbiota associations with more fine-grained aspects of brain development remain largely unknown. Here (N = 122, 53% boys), we investigated the associations between infant fecal microbiota composition and infant attention to emotional faces, as bias for faces is strong in infancy and deviations in early processing of emotional facial expressions may influence the trajectories of social-emotional development. The fecal microbiota composition was assessed at 2.5 months of age and analyzed with 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Attention to emotional faces was assessed with an age-appropriate face-distractor paradigm, using neutral, happy, fearful, and scrambled faces and salient distractors, at 8 months of age. We observed an association between a lower abundance of Bifidobacterium and a higher abundance of Clostridium with an increased "fear bias," that is, attention toward fearful versus happy/neutral faces. This data suggests an association between early microbiota and later fear bias, a well-established infant phenotype of emotionally directed attention. We assessed the performance of erythromycin-loaded polymeric dicalcium phosphate dehydrate cement. Its properties include drug release, growth inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus and biocompatibility with osteoblastic MC3T3 cells. The impact of erythromycin loading on cement injectability, setting time, and mechanical strength were also evaluated. A sustained, low burst release of erythromycin was observed. Eluents collected from erythromycin-loaded cement showed a considerable zone of inhibition for up to 28 days. Direct contact of erythromycin-loaded cement discs with agar plate showed a similarly sizable zone of inhibition for up to 22 days. Degraded ceramic residues had strong zones of inhibition as well. While the erythromycin-loaded cement was injectable, a notable delay of the setting time was observed (49.2 ± 6.8 min) as compared with control (drug-free cement, 12.2 ± 2.6 min). A slight increase in compressive strength (60.83 ± 6.28 MPa) was observed in erythromycin-loaded cement as compared with control (59.41 ± 6.48 MPa). Erythromycin-loaded cement was biocompatible although reduced cell growth was observed in the presence of the cement eluent. We propose that the bactericidal efficacy of erythromycin-loaded cement was caused by the combined effects of erythromycin released and exposed on the contact surface of degrading ceramics. Our data may elucidate the future application of polymeric dicalcium phosphate dehydrate bone graft substitute for the treatment of orthopedic infections and opportunities to use other antibiotics and applications considering its comparable handling and mechanical strength to poly (methyl methacrylate) cements.

Propolis has been used traditionally in several countries for treating various diseases as it possessed healing properties including antioxidant and anticancer qualities. In Peninsular Malaysia,

Therefore, this study is designed to evaluate the phytochemical contents, antioxidant properties, and the cytotoxic effect of ethanolic crude of propolis extract against MCF7 and MCF 10A cell lines.

The ethanolic extract of propolis (EEP) was extracted using 80% ethanol. Identification of phytochemical contents and antioxidant properties of EEP was analysed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and using 2, 2'-azinobis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS) method, respectively. The EEP cytotoxic activity was evaluated on MCF7 and MCF 10A using 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay.
