Providing care for someone with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias (ADRD) is associated with significant physical and mental strain affecting quality of life among caregivers. However, little attention has been given to sexual minority (SM; lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer) people caring for those with ADRD. In this cross-sectional study, we used psychosocial measures to describe the characteristics and family quality of life of SM and heterosexual caregivers for people with ADRD. SM caregivers were significantly younger and more frequently reported full or part-time employment compared with their heterosexual counterparts. Lesbian and bisexual caregivers reported more difficulty in paying for everyday basics. After controlling for demographic covariates, SM caregivers had significantly higher family quality of life scores compared with heterosexual caregivers. This study is among the first to compare family quality of life between SM and heterosexual caregivers. Findings can guide development of targeted interventions for SM caregivers.Central vein catheter is a convenient and preferred vascular access for blood purification therapy in intensive care unit. Utilizing ultrasound to access the central vein is considered standard of care. However, critically ill patients can pose challenges while acquiring an optimal ultrasound image. The presence of subcutaneous air pockets, concerns for air embolism, and excessive bleeding from the exit site is one such clinical situation. We describe our experience with a unique situation while placing a tunneled dialysis catheter in a COVID-19 patient with acute respiratory failure and subcutaneous emphysema.

Incest is a globally prevalent phenomenon and is defined as sexual relations between closely related family members. Despite being a criminal offense irrespective to the gender and age incest is a prevalent issue in Nepal. Incest survivors are sheltered in safe homes for specific periods and reintegrated into their families following their healing. This research aims to explore the challenges and issues involved in the reintegration of incest survivors and investigate how the interconnected perceptions of families and individuals relate to the incest survivors' successful reintegration.

This qualitative study was conducted in three districts of Nepal. Fourteen incest survivors, five service providers from safe homes, and 22 community members were purposefully and theoretically selected. Semi-structured interviews were carried out to collect the study data, which were subsequently coded and analyzed using a grounded theory approach.

The results indicate the importance of the reintegration of incest surviions on child rights and women's rights may help prevention of incest, and address the reintegration challenges of incest victims.

This study found that factors associated with impeding the reintegration of incest survivors are found in survivors, their families, and their communities. Creating harmonious family systems, providing education on gender equality, empowering women to fight against all sorts of abuse, and governmental assurances on the implementation of legal aid, human rights, ratified conventions on child rights and women's rights may help prevention of incest, and address the reintegration challenges of incest victims. In this study, we compared the orthographic and semantic preferences of healthy adults and age and gender matched adults with aphasia, an acquired language disorder. Previous research in word retrieval and word associations has addressed semantic and phonological connections, but it has not as often included analyses of orthographic skills. We matched (on age and gender) 10 neurotypical adults and 11 older adults with aphasia and administered to both groups a lexical discrimination task requiring them to select, from 18 choices, those words that were most different from three words (daughter, laughter, son). Among the choices were foil words (e.g., daughter), orthographic similarities (laughter) and semantic similarities (son). Results revealed that individuals with aphasia focused on orthographic differences, while healthy adults chose semantic differences. Further studies should further explore this orthographic focus to develop treatment strategies, using behavioral and objective measures, for word-finding deficits in aphasia. The use of smart and advanced composite materials instead of conventional metals is foreseen in material sciences due to the development of novel manufacturing techniques. In this regard, a novel type of composite materials "functionally graded materials (FGM)" has attained great attention owing to their intrinsic mechanical characteristics. FGM have been the focus for researchers for analytical formulation, static structural (large deformation, material nonlinearity) analysis as well as for dynamic analysis on simple beams and on structure having non-uniform tapered rectangular profile considering different boundary conditions. No focus is made to thin structure having non-uniform circular cross-sections. This study aims to deal with analyzing the "dynamic behavior of thin circular non-uniform truncated conical section" which is mostly used for manufacturing of fishing rod. This works primarily compares the static, modal, and harmonic analysis under the application of loads of 50 N acting on fishing rod made up of conventional steel, composite (carbon fiber) steel, and functionally graded material (FGM) with the help of ANSYS®. Firstly, static analysis performed to analyze the structural behavior under the application of static loadings. After that modal analysis performed and first five modes selected for Steel; from 0 to 600 Hz, for Carbon Fiber; from 0 to 850 Hz and for FGM; from 0 to 900 Hz for harmonic analysis. Maximum defection at resonance for steel is 7.94 mm, for composite is 74.4 mm, and for FGM is just 0.032 mm. The comparison of these results clearly depicts that FGM is having excellent vibration suppression performance as compared to other two materials under consideration. This confirms that thin structure (non-uniform circular profile) made of FGM can be used efficiently for the intended applications in future. This qualitative study aimed to provide an in-depth understanding of the challenges experienced by certified nursing assistants and administrators during the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis. We conducted 6 administrator interviews and 10 remote focus groups with day and evening CNAs at 5 nursing homes (N = 56) in downstate New York. Content analysis was conducted, and emerging themes were identified across sites and roles. Results showed numerous challenges for both CNAs and administrators including many that were personal. These personal challenges included feeling helpless, anxious, or fearful; experience of COVID illness; and balancing high concurrent demands of work and family. There were also many operational challenges such as a lack of COVID testing capacity, information, and consistent guidance and support, staffing and equipment. Understanding these challenges can facilitate goals to promote future safety, skill refinement, and enhanced resilience in the workforce. The growing ageing population in the Nordic region calls for increased focus on health promotion work. To enhance multi-professional understanding and further develop strategies for promoting healthy ageing, it is vital to consider the perspectives of those working with health promotion. The aim of this study was to explore a wide spectrum of practitioners' experiences of community-level health promotion targeting older adults in Finland and Sweden. Nine focus group interviews (34 informants) were conducted in 2019-2020. "Seeing the person" emerged as the ideal for health promotion targeting older adults, but this ideal was not always realized in current practice. Barriers related to organizational structures and the practitioner role were identified. However, work methods connected to user involvement and technology-based tools were considered key facilitators, enabling tailored health promotion initiatives.

COVID-19 patients require frequent arterial blood gas analysis for the assessment of oxygenation status.

The main objective of this research is to describe a dedicated protocol developed to standardize the insertion and management of peripheral Arterial Catheters (AC) for on-demand use, in the Emergency Department of "Maggiore" Hospital (Lodi, Italy). This strategy represents a valid alternative to repeated arterial punctures outside the intensive care unit.

The crucial points of the protocol were defined vessel selection criteria, device used, technique of insertion, choice of securement and dressing device, and procedures had been created for correct management.

During April and December 2020, 50 AC were inserted, two dislocations and one malfunction were observed. No major complications (Catheter Related Bloodstream Infection, thrombosis, bleeding, pseudoaneurysms, hematoma, artery occlusion - even temporary - and skin irritation) were observed.

To the authors knowledge, this is the first article nt, especially the use of the most appropriate securement system and the most effective solution for locking catheters.Exposure to community violence (ECV) poses a prevalent threat to the health and development of adolescents. Research indicates those who have more Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are at higher risk for ECV, which further exacerbates risk of negative mental and physical health impacts. Additionally, those with more ACEs are more likely to exhibit conduct problems, which has also been linked to risk for ECV. Despite the prevalence and impact of ECV, there is limited longitudinal research on the risk factors that precede this exposure as well as family-level factors that may prevent it. The current study examined conduct problems as a potential mediator between ACEs and future indirect (i.e. witnessing) ECV in adolescents. Additionally, this study included caregiver factors, such as caregiver knowledge about their adolescent, caregiver involvement, and caregiver-adolescent relationship quality as potential protective moderators. Participants included (N = 1137) caregiver-adolescent dyads identified as at-risk for child maltreatment prior to child's age four for inclusion in the Longitudinal Studies of Child Abuse and Neglect (LONGSCAN). Conduct problems at age 14 mediated the relationship between ACEs from ages 0-12 and indirect ECV at age 16 (standardized indirect effect = .03, p = .005). Caregiver knowledge moderated the indirect relationship (b = -.40, p = .030), and caregiver involvement moderated the direct relationship between ACEs and indirect ECV (b = -.03, p = .033). Findings expand our knowledge about the longitudinal pathways that increase risk of violence exposure over the course of adolescent development, as well as the protective benefits caregivers can offer to disrupt these pathways and reduce risk of future traumatization. Implications are discussed for interventions that aim to address and prevent trauma and adverse outcomes among youth exposed to child maltreatment, household dysfunction, and community violence.
