Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as critical molecular regulators in various diseases. However, the potential regulatory role of lncRNAs in the pathogenesis of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) remains elusive. The aim of this study was to identify crucial lncRNAs associated with human AAA by comparing the lncRNA and mRNA expression profiles of patients with AAA with those of control individuals.
The expression profiles of lncRNAs and mRNAs were analyzed in five dilated aortic samples from AAA patients and three normal aortic samples from control individuals using microarray technology. Functional annotation of the screened lncRNAs based on the differentially expressed genes was performed using Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses.
Microarray results revealed 2046 lncRNAs and 1363 mRNAs. Functional enrichment analysis showed that the mRNAs significantly associated with AAA were enriched in the NOD-like receptor (NLR) and nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-
B) scantly expressed lncRNAs between patients with AAA and control group individuals may provide new diagnostic biomarkers for AAA. The underlying regulatory mechanisms of the confirmed lncRNAs in AAA pathogenesis need to be determined using in vitro and in vivo experiments.
Body mass index (BMI) is a metric widely used to measure the healthy weight of an individual and to predict a person's risk of developing serious illnesses. Study the statistical association between genetically transmitted traits and BMI might be of interest.
The present study designed to extend the inadequate evidence concerning the influence of some genetically transmitted traits including ABO blood type, Rh factor, eye color, and hair color on BMI variation.
A total of 142 undergraduate female students of the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, King Khalid University, Abha, Saudi Arabia, were participated to investigate the possible linkage between genetic traits and BMI variations. Height and weight are collected from participants for BMI measurement. ABO blood type and Rh factor were determined by antisera.
Out of 142 female students, 48 were categorized in the first tertile (T1 less than 19.8 kg/m
), 50 were categorized in the second tertile (T2 between 19.8 and 23.7 kg/m
), and 44 were categorized in the third tertile (T3 greater than 23.7 kg/m
). Chi-square analysis shows that there were no associations of genetic traits including hair color, eye color, ABO blood type, and Rh blood type with BMI. However, a significant association between hair color and BMI was observed using multinomial logistic regression analysis.
Our data provides a more robust prediction of the relative influence of genetic effects such as hair color on BMI. Future studies may contribute to identifying more association between genes involved in hair pigmentation and BMI variation.

Verdc.) is considered an emerging crop for the future and known as a crop for the new millennium. The core intention of this research work was to estimate the variation of landraces of Bambara groundnut considering their 14 qualitative and 27 numerical traits, to discover the best genotype fitted in Malaysia. The findings of the ANOVA observed a highly significant variation (p ≤ 0.01) for all the traits evaluated. There was a substantial variation (7.27 to 41.21%) coefficient value, and 14 out of the 27 numerical traits noted coefficient of variation (CV) ≥ 20%. Yield (kg/ha) disclosed positively strong to perfect high significant correlation (r = 0.75 to 1.00; p ≤ 0.001) with traits like fresh pod weight, dry pod weight, and dry seed weight. selleck chemicals llc The topmost PCV and GCV values were estimated for biomass dry (41.09%) and fresh (40.53%) weight with high heritability (Hb) and genetic advance (GA) Hb = 95.19%, GA = 80.57% and Hb = 98.52%, GA = 82.86%, respectively. The topmost rity among the landraces and the evidence on genetic relatives will be imperative in using the existing germplasm for Bambara groundnut varietal improvement. Moreover, this finding will be beneficial for breeders to choose the desirable numerical traits of V. link2 subterranea in their future breeding program.[This retracts the article DOI 10.1155/2014/640754.].
Abortion-related mortality is decreasing, but the complication is still causing a significant morbidity to mothers especially in developing countries. Recently, suitable criteria to assess maternal near miss for sub-Saharan countries were adapted in harmony with the previous World Health Organization near-miss criteria. link3 The aim of this study was to assess the magnitude of severe acute maternal morbidity and associated factors related to abortion in Hawassa University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Ethiopia.
An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 337 women who sought abortion services at Hawassa University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital from January 1 to October 30, 2019. The participants were selected conveniently. Data was collected by using prospective morbidity methodology with pretested anonymous structured English questionnaire. The collected data were then entered into SPSS version 20 for analysis. Variables with
value ≤ 0.2 in the bivariate analysis, not collineaon on health care seeking culture of the community.
Severe acute maternal morbidity and maternal near miss related to abortion are high despite the availability of safe termination. Near-miss cases could be better traced by using reasonably adapted World Health Organization near-miss criteria for sub-Saharan countries. Lack of education, increased gestational age, and delayed presentation had increased severe acute maternal morbidity associated with abortion which may need further education on health care seeking culture of the community.
This prospective single-blinded clinical trial included 72 ASA I-II stage children aged 1-36 months with cCHD who were scheduled to undergo TTE under sedation. Children were assigned to group A (
= 37) with a previous history of cardiac surgery and group B (
= 35) with no history of cardiac surgery. Doses of intranasal DEX were analyzed by up-down sequential allocation at an initial dose of 2.3
g/kg and an increase in steps of 0.2
g/kg. Intranasal DEXED50 values were analyzed by the up-and-down method of Dixon-Massey and probit regression to determine ED50 and 95% confidence interval (CI) for sedation. link= selleck chemicals llc The time to effective sedation, time to regaining consciousness, vital signs, oxygen saturation, time of performing TTE, clinical adverse effects, and characteristics of regaining consciousness were compared between the two groups.
ED50 of intranasal DEX sedation was 2.530
g/kg (95% CI, 1.657-4.156) in group A and 2.500
g/kg (95% CI, 1.987-3.013) in group B. There was no significant difference in sedation onset time and time to regaining consciousness between the two groups. link2 Additionally, no significant adverse hemodynamic or hypoxemic effect was observed. There was no significant difference in sedation-onset time and wake-up time between the two groups (15 ± 4 min
16 ± 5 min; 50 ± 11 min
48 ± 10 min). This trial is registered with the China Clinical Trials Registry (ChiCTR-IOR-1800015038).
ED50 of intranasal DEX sedation for TTE is similar in children with and without a history of cardiac surgery for cCHD.

trontium ranelate (StR) is an antiosteoporotic agent previously utilized for the enhancement of fracture union. We investigated the effects of StR on fracture healing using a rabbit model.
Forty adult female rabbits were included in the study and were divided in 2 equal groups, according to StR treatment or untreated controls. All animals were subjected to osteotomy of the ulna, while the contralateral ulna remained intact and served as a control for the biomechanical assessment of fracture healing. Animals in the study group received 600 mg/kg/day of StR orally. All animals received ordinary food. selleck chemicals llc link3 At 2 and 4 weeks, all animals were euthanatized and the osteotomy sites were evaluated for healing through radiological, biomechanical, and histopathological studies.
The treatment group presented statistically significant higher callus diameter, total callus area, percentage of fibrous tissue (
< 0.001), vessels/mm
, number of total vessels, and lower osteoclast number/mm
(
< 0.05) than the control group at 2 weeks. Additionally, the treatment group presented significantly higher percentages of new trabecular bone, vessels/mm
, osteoclast number/mm
, and lower values for callus diameter, as well as total callus area (
< 0.05), than the control group at 4 weeks. At 4 weeks, in the treatment group, force applied (
= 0.003), energy at failure (
= 0.004), and load at failure (
= 0.003) were all significantly higher in the forearm specimens with the osteotomized ulnae compared to those without. Radiological bone union was demonstrated for animals receiving StR at 4 weeks compared with controls (
= 0.045).
StR appears to enhance fracture healing but further studies are warranted in order to better elucidate the mechanisms and benefits of StR treatment.

Therefore, knowledge and hygiene practice of food safety among food handlers are particularly important. Evaluation of food safety knowledge and hygienic practices among 18 restaurants in three different regions (i.e., districts) in the Governorate of Muscat was performed. In order to determine the quality level of restaurants, grouping (i.e., Region 1, Region 2, and Region 3; e.g., Group I, Group II, and Group III) was adopted from the regulations and assigned by the municipality based on the number of complaints against the restaurants. A questionnaire was designed to assess the knowledge of hygiene, food poisoning, food handling, cooking, and local regulations/rules of the food handlers in selected restaurants. The food handlers in the Region 1 restaurants showed significantly higher (p less then 0.05) overall knowledge (58.6%) in food safety as compared to Region 2 (52.1%) and Region 3 (53.2%). Overall knowledge of food handlers in Group I restaurants was significantly higher (p less then 0.
