DBD plasma resulted in further enhanced tensile strength and stiffness, and lower hydrophilicity and water solubility; however, it did not present significant effects on the WVP of the resulting films within the ranges studied. Higher hydrophobicity, strength, and stiffness were verified after 20 min. The results presented in this work suggest that the DBD plasma has the potential to make starch-based films a more suitable packaging material.

Childhood infratentorial tumor patients frequently suffer from long-term cognitive deficits. As each constituent of their treatment can lead to neurotoxicity, cascade effects can lead to profound reorganization of the underlying brain network, the so-called 'connectome'. However, to date, few studies have assessed the relationship between brain network topology, the functional role of network hubs (i.e. highly connected regions), and neurocognitive outcomes in adult survivors of childhood infratentorial tumors.

In this cross-sectional study, childhood infratentorial tumor survivors (n=21 pilocytic astrocytoma (n=8), ependymoma (n=1) and medulloblastoma (n=12)) and healthy controls (n=21) were recruited. Using multishell diffusion-weighted MRI, microstructural organization and topology of supratentorial white matter was investigated; using a voxel-based approach, a fixel-based analysis, and a graph theoretical approach. To investigate the effects of the level of pre-treatment tooth wear and increasing the VDO on the performance of direct resin composite restorations for the rehabilitation of pathological tooth wear.

Full-mouth (pre-treatment) grading was performed on digital greyscale scan records for 34 participants (35.3±8.4 years) with signs of moderate-to-severe generalised tooth wear, using the Tooth Wear Evaluation System and the Basic Erosive Wear Examination. Each participant received full-mouth direct resin composite restorations, with increased VDO. The post-treatment increase in the VDO was determined. Recalls were planned after 1 month, and after 1, 3, and 5 years. Three 'levels' of restoration failure were described. The effects of the variables on the frequencies of restoration failure were calculated with a multivariable Cox regression, (p<0.05).

1269 restorations were placed with a mean observation period of 62.4 months. Increasing the VDO by 1mm significantly reduced the risks of all levels of anterior restoration failure (HR ≤ 0.62, p≤0.025). A higher anterior BEWE surface score was associated with increased risks of Level 2- & 3- failures, (HR ≥ 1.29, p≤0.019). Premolar restorations showed lower risks of Level 2- & 3- failure, compared to the molar restorations, (HR ≤ 0.5, p≤0.005).

However, lack of potent, selective, and clinically tractable small-molecule compounds makes the strategy to target cancer epigenetic pathways still challenging. Therefore, this review focuses on epigenetic pathways, small molecule inhibitors targeting DNA methyltransferase (DNMT) and small molecule inhibitors targeting histone modification (the main regulatory targets are histone acetyltransferases (HAT), histone deacetylases (HDACs) and histone methyltransferases (HMTS)), as well as the combination strategies of the existing epigenetic therapeutic drugs and more new therapies to improve the efficacy, which will shed light on a new clue on discovery of more small-molecule drugs targeting cancer epigenetic pathways as promising strategies in the future.Aspiration of gastric contents during induction of general anesthesia remains a significant cause of mortality and morbidity in anesthesia. Recent data show that pulmonary aspiration still accounts for many cases with implications on mortality despite technical and technological evolution. Practical, ethical, and methodological issues prevent high-quality research in the setting of aspiration and rapid sequence induction/intubation, and significant controversy is ongoing. Patients' position, drugs choice, dosing and timing, use of cricoid force, and a reliable risk assessment are widely debated with significant questions still unanswered. We focus our discussion on three approaches to promote a better understanding of rapid sequence induction/intubation and airway management decision-making. Firstly, we review how we can use qualitative and quantitative assessment of fasting status and gastric content with the point-of-care ultrasound as an integral part of preoperative evaluation and planning. Secondly, we propose using imaging-based mathematical models to study different patient positions and aspiration mechanisms, including identifying aspiration triggers. Thirdly, we promote the development of a global data collection system aiming to obtain precise epidemiological data. Therefore, we fill the gap between evidence-based medicine and experts' opinion through easily accessible and diffused computer-based databases. A better understanding of aspiration epidemiology obtained through focused global data gathering systems, the widespread use of ultrasound-based prandial status evaluation, and development of advanced mathematical models might potentially guide safer airway management decision making in the 21st century.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is an orthopedic inflammatory disease which can cause functional disability and chronic pain. MiRNAs are known to play important roles in OA. To identify the targets for the treatment of OA, bioinformatics analysis was performed to explore differentially expressed miRNAs between OA and normal samples.

Bioinformatics analysis was conducted to identify differentially expressed miRNAs. To mimic OA in vitro, primary chondrocytes were stimulated with IL-1β. Meanwhile, flow cytometry was performed to detect the cell apoptosis and cycle distribution. In addition, protein and mRNA expressions were detected by Western blot and RT-qPCR, respectively. Finally, in vivo model of OA was constructed to investigate the function of miR-892b in OA.

The data indicated that miR-892b was identified to be upregulated in OA samples. Additionally, miR-892b antagomir markedly reversed IL-1β-induced growth decline of chondrocytes via inhibiting the apoptosis. IL-1β notably elevated the expressions of MMP1 and MMP13 and downregulated the level of Aggrecan in chondrocytes, while miR-892b antagomir reversed these phenomena.
