Pharmacy closures in rural areas is an increasingly common problem. Closures disrupt medication access and decrease adherence to prescription medications. Telepharmacy is a potential solution to this problem; however, research on the relationship between telepharmacy and the quality of medication use is scarce. Our study sought to address this gap by comparing the quality of telepharmacies serving rural areas and traditional pharmacies that support them.

We obtained dispensing data for the first 18 months of operation from 3 telepharmacies and 3 traditional pharmacies located in the upper Midwest. We evaluated adherence for noninsulin diabetes medications, renin-angiotensin system antagonists, and statins, as well as inappropriate use of high-risk medications in older adults and statin use in persons with diabetes. All metrics were calculated using Medicare Part D specifications. We estimated the differences between telepharmacies serving rural areas and traditional pharmacies using generalized linear regconsidering the adoption of telepharmacy, results indicate that telepharmacies provide a suitable solution for expanding medication access and that using telepharmacy would not negatively affect the quality of medication use.Curcumol (Cur), isolated from the Traditional Chinese Medical plant Rhizoma Curcumae, is the bioactive component of sesquiterpene reported to possess anti-tumor activity. However, its bioactivity and mechanisms against lung adenocarcinoma are still unclear. We investigated its effect on lung adenocarcinoma and elucidated its underlying molecular mechanisms. experiment revealed that Cur could inhibit lung tumor growth and lung metastasis, which were consistent with these in vitro results. In xenograft model mice, Cur strongly decreased tumor weight and tumor volume, which may were related to the down-regulation of p-AKT and p-PI3K by immunofluorescence analysis. In addition, lung metastasis model experiment suggested that Cur dramatically decreased the ratio of lung/total weight, tumor metastatic nodules, and the expressions of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in lung tissues compared with the control. Overall, these data suggested that the inhibitory activity of Cur on lung adenocarcinoma via the inactivation of PI3K/Akt and Wnt/ ß-catenin pathways, at least in part, indicating that curcumol may be a potential anti-tumor agent for lung adenocarcinoma therapy.

To develop a regional antibiogram within the Chicagoland metropolitan area and to compare regional susceptibilities against individual hospitals within the area and national surveillance data.

Multicenter retrospective analysis of antimicrobial susceptibility data from 2017 and comparison to local institutions and national surveillance data.

The analysis included 51 hospitals from the Chicago-Naperville-Elgin Metropolitan Statistical Area within the state of Illinois. Overall, 18 individual collaborator hospitals provided antibiograms for analysis, and data from 33 hospitals were provided in aggregate by the Becton Dickinson Insights Research Database.

All available antibiogram data from calendar year 2017 were combined to generate the regional antibiogram. The final Chicagoland antibiogram was then compared internally to collaborators and externally to national surveillance data to assess its applicability and utility.

In total, 167,394 gram-positive, gram-negative, fungal, and mycobacterial isolatable regional antibiogram is feasible, even in one of the largest metropolitan areas in the United States. The biogram is useful in assessing susceptibilities to less commonly encountered organisms and providing clinicians a more accurate representation of local antimicrobial resistance rates compared to national surveillance databases.

Mobile produce markets (MPM) offering Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) incentive programmes have the potential to provide accessible and affordable fruits and vegetables (FV) to populations at risk of food insecurity. The objective of this study is to characterise the customer base of an MPM and describe their participation at twelve market sites serving low-income seniors.

In 2018, customers from an MPM in Rhode Island (RI) participated in a cross-sectional survey (n 330; 68 % response rate), which measured dietary patterns, food security and food shopping behaviours. We compared the shopping habits and market experiences of customers who currently received SNAP benefits with those who did not currently receive SNAP benefits.

An MPM in RI which offers a 50 % discount for FV purchased with SNAP benefits.

This study describes current market customers at twelve market sites serving low-income seniors.

Market customers were mostly low-income, female, over the age of 50 years and Hispanic/Latino. Most customers received SNAP benefits, and almost half were food insecure. In addition, three quarters of SNAP customers reported their SNAP benefits last longer since shopping at the markets. Mixed logistic regression models indicated that SNAP customers were more likely to report buying and eating more FV than non-SNAP customers.

MPM are critical resources of affordable produce and have been successful in improving access to FV among individuals of low socio-economic status in RI. This case study can inform policy and programme recommendations for MPM and SNAP incentive programmes.

Mental health difficulties and mental disorders are common in adolescents living with HIV or who are affected by HIV because of living in HIV-affected households in low- and middle-income (LMICs) countries, but little is known about the interventions that target these individuals and whether they are effective.

This systematic review aims to address these gaps by examining what has worked and what has not worked to support the mental health of adolescents living with HIV or affected by HIV in low- and middle-income contexts (PROSPERO Number CRD42018103269).

A systematic literature review of online databases from the year 2000 to 2018, using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, included English-language publications of quantitative evaluations of psychosocial interventions aiming to improve mental health among adolescents living with HIV and adolescents from HIV-affected households (aged 10-24 years) in LMICs.

Out of 2956 articles, 16 studies from 8 LMICs met the inclusion criteria. Thirteen studies focused on adolescents affected by HIV and only three studies on adolescents living with HIV. Only five studies included were from Sub-Saharan Africa. Interventions most often used a family-strengthening approach strengthening caregiver-adolescent relationships and communication and some problem-solving in groups or individually. Five studies reported statistically significant changes in adolescent and caregiver mental health or mental well-being, five among adolescents only and two among caregivers only.

Research on what works to improve mental health in adolescents living with HIV in LMIC is in its nascent stages. Family-based interventions and economic strengthening show promise.

The ATJ synthetic paraffinic kerosene (SPK) fuel was produced by Gevo (Englewood CO) and derived either from biomass (bio) or non-biomass sources. All toxicity tests were performed with one or both ATJ fuels following addition of a standard additive package required for JP-8. The primary fuel, Gevo (bio) ATJ SPK produced from biomass-derived iso-butanol, exhibited the same dermal irritation potential in rabbits as JP-8; the non-biomass-derived fuel was less irritating. The Gevo (bio) fuel was non-clastogenic in micronucleus testing with rats and neither version was mutagenic in the bacterial reverse mutation assay. A 90-day study was performed with Gevo (bio) ATJ SPK by exposing male and female Fischer 344 rats to target concentrations of 0, 200, 700 or 2000 mg/m3 of fuel, 6 hr per day, 5 days a week for 69 exposure days and included neurobehavioral assays and reproductive health evaluations in the study design. Results were negative or limited to irritant effects in the respiratory system due to exposure to a vapor and aerosol mixture in the 2000 mg/m3 exposure group. Occupational exposure limits for JP-8 were proposed for these ATJ fuels since these fuels display similar or somewhat lower toxicity than JP-8. As both versions of the Gevo ATJ jet fuel were similar, handling of either fuel alone or in a blend with petroleum-derived JP-8 appears unlikely to increase human health risks for workers.

This study aimed to examine the associations between different types of elder mistreatment, anxiety symptoms, and depressive symptoms among U.S. Chinese older adults.

Data were derived from the Population Study of Chinese Elderly (PINE), a study of Chinese older adults aged 60 years and above in the greater Chicago area from 2011-2013. Measurements include elder mistreatment screening tools, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and Patient Health Questionnaire-9. Negative binomial regressions and logistic regressions were performed.

Participants with any mistreatment, psychological mistreatment, physical mistreatment, financial exploitation, and caregiver neglect were more likely to have anxiety symptoms and depressive symptoms. Sexual mistreatment was not associated with symptoms of anxiety and depression.

The rate of psychological distress differs based on the types of mistreatment among U.S. Chinese older adults. The findings underline the need for public and community awareness and improved education for health care professionals.

By specifically targeting families with multiple psychosocial challenges, ECI contributes to the enhancement of families' parenting skills, in order to promote equal opportunities for all children to grow up healthy and safe. In many families supported by ECI measures at least one parent shows symptoms of a mental health disorder, which poses a major challenge to ECI practitioners. Nevertheless, there is a lack of valid scientific knowledge about the proportion of young families living with symptoms of mental disorders, the degree to which parents' psychic burdens affect care in ECI measures and about the cooperation of different care providing systems. The National Center for Early Prevention (NCEP) monitors and evaluates the scaling up of ECI networks and measures in Germany.
