Only miRNA 32-5p discriminated BPH specimens from sections of cancer-bearing prostate tissue with a low percentage, a high percentage, or no dysplastic cells. miR-32-5p could be considered as potential diagnostic biomarker discriminating BPH from noncancerous areas within cancer-bearing prostate tissue. However, further clinical studies are warranted to confirm its diagnostic utility.Objective To determine if osteosarcoma (OS) and Ewing sarcoma (EWS) of the pelvis based on MRI can be differentiated using radiomic analysis. Materials and methods In this study, 3.0 T magnetic resonance (MR) data of 66 patients (40 males and 26 females, mean age 27.6 ± 13.9 years) with pathologically confirmed OS or EWS of the pelvis (35 with OS and 31 with EWS) taken from April 2013 to December 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. T2-weighted fat-saturated (T2-FS) and contrast-enhanced T1-weighted (CET1) images were manually segmented, and imaging features were extracted. Independent-sample t-test, Spearman's test, and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) method were used to select the most useful features from the original data set. The performance of radiomic analysis was investigated by the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) analysis. Results 385 initial features were extracted from T2-FS and CET1 MR data. Nine features from T2-FS and 7 features from CET1 were selected by using the LASSO method. The radiomic analysis to differentiate OS and EWS of the pelvis based on T2-FS and CET1 images using the aforementioned selected features achieved AUC values of 0.881 (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.799-0.963) and 0.765 (95% CI 0.652-0.878), respectively. Conclusion Radiomic analysis showed potential in differentiating OS from EWS of the pelvis, in which T2-FS demonstrated better diagnostic value. To differentiate OS from EWS of the pelvis using our multiparametric MRI-based radiomic analysis could preoperatively improve diagnostic accuracy and greatly contribute to therapy planning.Purpose The detection of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) is a novel method for breast cancer diagnosis. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the clinical significance of lncRNAs in identification of human breast cancer. Methods Electronic databases, including PubMed (176), EMBASE (167), Cochrane Library (4), Web of Science (273), CNKI (41), VIP (18), and wanfang (21), were searched for relevant original articles. Diagnostic capacity of lncRNAs was assessed by pooled sensitivity and specificity, area under the summary receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), diagnostic odds ratio (DOR), and subgroup and meta-regression analysis. Stata and Meta-Disc software were used to conduct the meta-analysis. Results 33 articles including 4500 cases were identified in our meta-analysis. lncRNAs sustained a high diagnostic efficacy; the pooled sensitivity, specificity, AUC, and DOR of lncRNAs in differentiating BC from controls were 0.74 (95% CI 0.69-0.78), 0.78 (95% CI 0.72-0.83), 0.82 (95% CI 0.79-0.85), and 10.01 (95% CI 7.13-14.06), respectively. The subgroup analysis showed that the diagnostic efficacy of lncRNAs in Asian populations was higher than that in Caucasians; lncRNAs in BC were lower than those in TNBC and were higher in plasma and serum specimens than in tissues. In addition, heterogeneity was clearly apparent but was not caused by the threshold effect. Conclusion This meta-analysis suggested that lncRNAs might be promising biomarkers for identifying breast cancer, and its clinical application warrants further investigation.Objective To quantify the change in risk and aging factors with a two time point analysis for major cancers to assess supportive strategies. Methods The 2004 and 2015 mortality statistics in China were accessed. The standardized mortality rates of the two periods were used to calculate the ratio of change (RC) value to assess the risk of death associated with time (social development with time) for cancers. The role of age in mortality with time was evaluated by the interaction between time and age using a Poisson regression. Results In ascending order of RC, the factors were uterus; other malignant neoplasms; esophagus; stomach; skin; liver; leukemia; "lip, oral cavity, and pharynx"; bladder; "colon and rectum"; breast; prostate; lung; ovary; pancreas; "lymphoid, hematopoietic, and related tissue"; and cervix cancers. According to their location on the scatter diagram, the 17 neoplasms could be divided into three groups, comprising undeveloped cancers (including four cancers), developed cancers (including three cancers), and cancers insensitive to social development. Unexpectedly, about 60% (as assessed by type of cancer) and two-thirds (as assessed by constituent ratio of death from all cancers) of cancers did not change with time. Conclusions Most cancers may be insensitive to social development. Internal factors, including aging, may be a key factor for the occurrence of cancer.Background Although sleeve gastrectomy results in good weight loss and metabolic improvements, it is an irreversible procedure. Therefore, we attempted to assess the possibility of creating a sleeved stomach without resection. Material and Methods. A total of 22 male Sprague-Dawley rats with type 2 diabetes were randomly assigned into 3 different groups (1) sleeve gastroplasty with gastric remnant-jejunal anastomosis (SGP, n = 8); (2) sleeve gastrectomy (SG, n = 8); and (3) SHAM (n = 6). Body weight, food intake, fasting blood glucose (FBG), hormonal analysis, and oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) were performed and measured preoperatively and postoperatively. Results During the postoperative period, SGP and SG showed significantly lower food intake and body weight when compared with the preoperative levels, respectively (p value less then 0.05). Postoperatively, SGP and SG showed improvements in FBG and glucose tolerance levels compared to their respective preoperative levels (p less then 0.05). FBG and glucose tolerance levels did not differ between SGP and SG postoperatively. SG resulted in a reduction in fasting ghrelin levels when compared with the preoperative level (p less then 0.05). Fasting insulin levels did not differ preoperatively and postoperatively among all groups. Postoperatively, fasting GLP-1 levels were higher in SGP and SG when compared with the preoperative levels, but no statistical significance was observed. Compared preoperatively, the SGP and SG procedures resulted in a decline in HOMA-IR at postoperative 6th week (p less then 0.05). Conclusion Our animal experiment suggested that at least in the short term, sleeved stomach without resection resulted in similar weight loss and improved glucose control effects compared to sleeve gastrectomy.The purpose of the study was to identify patient characteristics related to blood loss following high tibial osteotomy (HTO). We evaluated 48 patients undergoing HTO from August 2018 to August 2019. The data of 48 patients were collected, including gender, age, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), smoking, alcohol consumption, hypertension, diabetes, history of aspirin, and pre-postoperative hematocrit (Hct). Multiple linear regression analysis was used to analyze the risk factors related to blood loss in HTO. The mean age of patients was 56.6 ± 10.2 years, including 22 males and 26 females. The mean BMI was 28.5 ± 4.2 kg/m2, and the mean blood loss volume was 383.3 ± 181.3 mL, 13 patients with smoking (27.1%), 15 patients with alcohol consumption (31.3%), 23 patients with hypertension (47.9%), 10 patients with diabetes mellitus (20.8%), and 12 patients with history of aspirin (25.0%). Multiple linear regression model suggested alcohol consumption and BMI were associated with blood loss in HTO, R 2 = 0.451, F(9, 38) = 3.462 (P less then 0.05). Our study indicates that alcohol consumption and BMI are important risk factors related to blood loss in HTO.In both mouse models and clinical patients with lupus, autophagy levels were significantly elevated and correlated with disease activity. Furthermore, autophagy can promote the survival of B and T cells, plasma cell differentiation, and antibody production. These results suggest that autophagy may promote the progression of lupus by regulating the survival of autoreactive immune cells. Therefore, we aimed at studying whether suppressing autophagy can modulate lupus progression in vivo. First, we found that the autophagy levels in splenocytes and lymphocytes of peripheral blood (PB) were elevated and positively correlated with disease severity in lupus-prone mice. The shAtg5-lentivirus, which effectively inhibits autophagy in vitro, was then injected into the lupus-prone mice. Autophagy levels in lymph node cells and PB lymphocytes were reduced following Atg5 suppression. We also found that lymphadenopathy and the numbers of plasma cells, CD4-CD8-, and CD4+ T cells decreased in mice treated with the shAtg5-lentivirus. The mice treated with shAtg5-lentivirus exhibited lower levels of proteinuria, serum anti-dsDNA antibody, B-cell activating factor (BAFF), and glomerular immune complex deposition. Therefore, targeting autophagy to moderate overactivated autophagy in immune cells seems to be a novel strategy for combination therapy of lupus.Proteases BACE1 (β-secretases) enzymes have been recognized as a promising target associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD). This study was carried out on the principles of molecular docking, chemical synthesis, and enzymatic inhibition of BACE1 enzymes via biaryl guanidine-based ligands. Based on virtual screening, thirteen different compounds were synthesized and subsequently evaluated via in vitro and in vivo studies. Among them, 1,3-bis(5,6-difluoropyridin-3-yl)guanidine (compound (9)) was found the most potent (IC50 = 97 ± 0.91 nM) and active to arrest (99%) β-secretase enzymes (FRET assay). Furthermore, it was found to improve the novel object recognition test and Morris water maze test significantly (p less then 0.05). Improved pharmacokinetic parameters, viz., Log P o/w (1.76), Log S (-2.73), and better penetration to the brain (BBB permeation) with zero Lipinski violation, made it possible to hit the BACE1 as a potential therapeutic source for AD.Inflammatory diseases are a real public health problem worldwide. Many synthetic drugs used in the treatment of inflammatory diseases such as steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and immunosuppressive drugs have harmful side effects. However, there are natural products like propolis, which is traditionally used in the treatment of pain. The objective of this work was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities of the ethyl ester of arachic acid, a compound isolated from Cameroonian propolis. The ethyl ester of arachic acid was isolated by chromatography of the ethanolic extract of propolis harvested at Tala-Mokolo (Far North Region of Cameroon) and identified by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra and the 1H-1H correlated spectroscopy. The anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties of oral administration of arachic acid ethyl ester (12.5, 25.0, and 50.0 mg/kg bw) were evaluated using carrageenan-induced paw edema, xylene-induced ear edema, cotton pellets-induced granuloma formation, and hot plate test in rat. Arachic acid ethyl ester produced maximum inhibition at 50.0 mg/kg for carrageenan-induced paw edema (62.5%), xylene-induced ear edema (54.5%), cotton pellet-induced granuloma (47.4%), and increased mean latency for hot plate test in rats. These results show clearly that the arachic acid ethyl ester has acute and chronic anti-inflammatory properties as well as central analgesic properties. This justifies the use of propolis in the treatment of pain in traditional medicine.[This corrects the article DOI 10.1155/2018/9812041.].Mangroves are a group of plant species that occupy the coastal intertidal zone and are major components of this ecologically important ecosystem. Mangroves belong to about twenty diverse families. Here, we sequenced and assembled chloroplast genomes of 14 mangrove species from eight families spanning five rosid orders and one asterid order Fabales (Pongamia pinnata), Lamiales (Avicennia marina), Malpighiales (Excoecaria agallocha, Bruguiera sexangula, Kandelia obovata, Rhizophora stylosa, and Ceriops tagal), Malvales (Hibiscus tiliaceus, Heritiera littoralis, and Thespesia populnea), Myrtales (Laguncularia racemosa, Sonneratia ovata, and Pemphis acidula), and Sapindales (Xylocarpus moluccensis). These chloroplast genomes range from 149 kb to 168 kb in length. A conserved structure of two inverted repeats (IRa and IRb, ~25.8 kb), one large single-copy region (LSC, ~89.0 kb), and one short single-copy region (SSC, ~18.9 kb) as well as ~130 genes (85 protein-coding, 37 tRNAs, and 8 rRNAs) was observed. We found the lowest divergence in the IR regions among the four regions. We also identified simple sequence repeats (SSRs), which were found to be variable in numbers. Most chloroplast genes are highly conserved, with only four genes under positive selection or relaxed pressure. Combined with publicly available chloroplast genomes, we carried out phylogenetic analysis and confirmed the previously reported phylogeny within rosids, including the positioning of obscure families in Malpighiales. Our study reports 14 mangrove chloroplast genomes and illustrates their genome features and evolution.ATPase family AAA domain-containing protein 2 (ATAD2), a chromatin regulator and an oncogenic transcription cofactor, is frequently overexpressed in many cancers, particularly in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). By integrating open-access online mRNA datasets and our institutional tissue data on HCC, the clinical role and functions of ATAD2 were analyzed by bioinformatic algorithms. We systematically examined ATAD2 expression in HCC based on a large sample population, integrating data from our institution and the GEO, Oncomine, and TCGA datasets. Aberrant ATAD2 expression related to pathways was identified by bioinformatic algorithms. The effects of ATAD2 downregulation on the cycle cell were also determined. A pooled analysis from 28 datasets indicated that ATAD2 overexpression was found in HCC (SMD = 8.88, 95% CI 5.96-11.81, P less then 0.001) and was correlated with poor survival. Subgroup analysis of Asian patients with a serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) concentration less then 200 ng/ml in stage I + II selopment of therapeutic treatments for cancer.Materials and methods The petroleum ether (petrol), dichloromethane (CH2Cl2), ethyl acetate (EtOAc), and n-butyl alcohol (n-BuOH) fractions were isolated from alcohol extracts of D. moldavica L. Total phenolic and flavonoid contents and in vitro antioxidant activities of different fractions were evaluated. H9c2 cells were then treated with D. moldavica L. extracts before challenging with H2O2. Cell viability was determined by colorimetric assay, and ELISA was used to measure the levels of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), malondialdehyde (MDA), and superoxide dismutase (SOD). Apoptosis levels and mitochondrial membrane potential were measured by flow cytometry. The expressions of cell apoptosis regulatory proteins caspase-3, Bax, and Bcl-2 were determined by western blotting. Results Our results demonstrated that the EtOAc fraction from D. moldavica L. ethanol extract, which is rich in phenolic and flavonoid active constituents, had the strongest free radical scavenging activity. Additionally, this fraction increased H2O2-induced reduction in cell viability, SOD activity, and mitochondrial membrane potential. It also reduced H2O2-induced elevation in ROS production, contents of LDH and MDA, and H9c2 apoptosis. We further found that the EtOAc fraction increased Bcl-2 expression, while it decreased caspase-3 and Bax expressions induced by H2O2 in H9c2 cells. Conclusions Our data revealed that the EtOAc fraction from D. moldavica L. ethanol extract ameliorates H2O2-induced cardiotoxicity via antiapoptotic and antioxidant mechanisms.Colorectal cancer, a malignant neoplasm that occurs in the colorectal mucosa, is one of the most common types of gastrointestinal cancer. Colorectal cancer has been studied extensively, but the molecular mechanisms of this malignancy have not been characterized. This study identified and verified core genes associated with colorectal cancer using integrated bioinformatics analysis. Three gene expression profiles (GSE15781, GSE110223, and GSE110224) were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases. A total of 87 common differentially expressed genes (DEGs) among GSE15781, GSE110223, and GSE110224 were identified, including 19 upregulated genes and 68 downregulated genes. Gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analysis was performed for common DEGs using clusterProfiler. These common DEGs were significantly involved in cancer-associated functions and signaling pathways. Then, we constructed protein-protein interaction networks of these common DEGs using Cytoscape software, which resulted in the identification of the following 10 core genes SST, PYY, CXCL1, CXCL8, CXCL3, ZG16, AQP8, CLCA4, MS4A12, and GUCA2A. Analysis using qRT-PCR has shown that SST, CXCL8, and MS4A12 were significant differentially expressed between colorectal cancer tissues and normal colorectal tissues (P less then 0.05). Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) overall survival (OS) has shown that low expressions of AQP8, ZG16, CXCL3, and CXCL8 may predict poor survival outcome in colorectal cancer. In conclusion, the core genes identified in this study contributed to the understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in colorectal cancer development and may be targets for early diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of colorectal cancer.To evaluate the clinical significance of spinal decompression and fusion for lumbar spinal stenosis in old patients under Roussouly classification, 160 old patients (>60 year old) with lumbar spinal stenosis underwent spinal decompression, and fusion were retrospectively studied. According to Roussouly classification, patients were divided into 4 groups, in which Roussouly types I, II, and IV were the nonstandard group and Roussouly type III was the standard group. Visual analog scale (waist, leg) and Oswestry disability index (ODI) scores were recorded before operation and at the final follow-up. All patients improved the sagittal curvature for patients in Roussouly types I and II, there were statistically significant differences in terms of postoperative global lordosis (GL), global kyphosis (GK), sacral slope (SS), sagittal vertical axis (SVA), and pelvic tilt (PT) compared with that before surgery (all P 60 years) with lumbar spinal stenosis.This study assessed the diagnostic value of interleukin- (IL-) 6, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), and procalcitonin (PCT) in differentiating severe pneumonia caused by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) alone and RSV with bacterial coinfections among Vietnamese children under 5 years old. A cross-sectional study on 70 children with severe RSV pneumonia was conducted. IL-6, hs-CRP, and PCT tests were performed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was employed to measure the diagnostic values of PCT, IL-6, and hs-CRP. Of 70 children, 11 children were confirmed to have bacterial coinfections. The most common bacterial coinfection was Haemophilus influenzae. This study underlined that inflammatory biomarkers such as PCT had a moderate-to-high capability of disseminating severe pneumonia children with RSV alone or RSV and bacterial coinfections. This may support clinicians in administrating appropriate antibiotics to children suffering from severe RSV pneumonia.Mammography remains the most prevalent imaging tool for early breast cancer screening. The language used to describe abnormalities in mammographic reports is based on the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS). Assigning a correct BI-RADS category to each examined mammogram is a strenuous and challenging task for even experts. This paper proposes a new and effective computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system to classify mammographic masses into four assessment categories in BI-RADS. The mass regions are first enhanced by means of histogram equalization and then semiautomatically segmented based on the region growing technique. A total of 130 handcrafted BI-RADS features are then extracted from the shape, margin, and density of each mass, together with the mass size and the patient's age, as mentioned in BI-RADS mammography. Then, a modified feature selection method based on the genetic algorithm (GA) is proposed to select the most clinically significant BI-RADS features. Finally, a back-propagation neural network (BPN) is employed for classification, and its accuracy is used as the fitness in GA. A set of 500 mammogram images from the digital database for screening mammography (DDSM) is used for evaluation. Our system achieves classification accuracy, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and Matthews correlation coefficient of 84.5%, 84.4%, 94.8%, and 79.3%, respectively. To our best knowledge, this is the best current result for BI-RADS classification of breast masses in mammography, which makes the proposed system promising to support radiologists for deciding proper patient management based on the automatically assigned BI-RADS categories.Background To eliminate mother-to-child transmission of syphilis, the Chinese government recommends a treatment regimen that slightly differs from the World Health Organization- (WHO-) recommended treatment. However, little is known about their difference in efficacy. This study is aimed at comparing the effect of China-recommended and WHO-recommend treatment regimens on adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) and at examining associated risk factors of APOs among syphilis-seropositive women. Methods Using the syphilis registry data, we retrospectively collected data from 4488 syphilis-infected pregnant women in Guangzhou during 2011-2018. Multivariate analyses were used to investigate the association between treatment regimens and APOs (ectopic pregnancy, spontaneous abortion, stillbirth, preterm birth or low birth weight, newborn smaller than gestational age, congenital syphilis, and infant death) and the association between risk factors and APOs. Results Of 3474 participants, 27.3% had at least one APO. Compared to those receiving WHO-recommended treatment, women who received China-recommended treatment were less likely to have APOs (odds ratio (OR) 0.47, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.38-0.57), whereas those who received no treatment had 1.6 times higher odds of experiencing APOs. One common risk factor across different APOs was high levels of log2-transformed toluidine red unheated serum test (TRUST) titers before treatment (OR 1.14, 95% CI 1.10-1.19). China-recommended treatment was effective in reducing APOs for those with TRUST ≥ 1 8 (OR 0.21, 95% CI 0.14-0.29) and those with TRUST less then 1 8 (OR 0.62, 95% CI 0.50-0.77). Conclusions Syphilis-seropositive women receiving China-recommended treatment had lower odds of APOs, especially when TRUST titers before treatment were high. Findings can be used to guide health professionals to reduce APOs among syphilis-infected mothers and promote nationwide use of China-recommended treatment.Static magnetic field (SMF) has a potential as a cancer therapeutic modality due to its specific inhibitory effects on the proliferation of multiple cancer cells. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear, and just a few studies have examined the effects of SMF on metastasis, an important concern in cancer treatment. In this study, we evaluated the effects of moderate SMF (~150 mT) on the proliferation and migration of 4T1 breast cancer cells. Our results showed that SMF treatment accelerated cell proliferation but inhibited cell migration. Further, SMF treatment shortened the telomere length, decreased telomerase activity, and inhibited the expression of the cancer-specific marker telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT), which may be related to expression upregulation of e2f1, a transcription repressor of TERT and positive regulator of the mitotic cell cycle. Our results revealed that SMF repressed both, cell migration and telomerase function. The telomerase network is responsive to SMF and may be involved in SMF-mediated cancer-specific effects; moreover, it may function as a therapeutic target in magnetic therapy of cancers.Background Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) is a multimodal, multidisciplinary, evidence-based approach to care for surgical patients and aims at optimizing the perioperative management and outcomes. The ERAS approach was first implemented in colorectal surgery patients; however, the reported applications in pancreatoduodenectomy patients are limited. In recent years, studies on ERAS for patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy have been published. The accumulation of new randomized controlled trials and high-quality case-control studies stimulated us to update the analysis. Our study comprehensively collected data to provide the best evidence summary for the clinic. Aim To evaluate the safety and feasibility of enhanced recovery after surgery in the perioperative management of pancreatoduodenectomy patients. Methods A systematic literature search of PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library was performed up to July 2019. All randomized controlled trials and case-control studies that applied ERAS for 2, 95% CI 0.53-0.74, P less then 0.00001) than in the control group. In addition, the minor complication rate (Clavien-Dindo I-II) was also lower in the ERAS group (OR = 0.70, 95% CI 0.58-0.86, P = 0.0005). The patients in the ERAS group had a lower incidence of delayed gastric emptying (OR = 0.51, 95% CI 0.42-0.63, P less then 0.00001) and shorter length of hospital stay (WMD = -4.27, 95% CI -4.81~-3.73, P less then 0.00001) than in the control group. The rates of pancreatic fistula (regardless of Grade A/B/C), wound infections, abdominal abscesses, readmission, reoperation, and morbidity were not significantly different between the two groups. Conclusion The ERAS approach is safe and effective in the perioperative management of patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy and helps to accelerate the postoperative recovery and improve prognosis.Background ACL ruptures are a prevalent condition, affecting daily living activities, associated with high financial burden. Objective To assess the effect of whole-body vibration (WBV) in the rehabilitation of patients with reconstructed anterior cruciate ligament. Methodology. An electronic search in Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science, and PEDro databases was conducted and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in humans that analysed the effects of WBV in patients with ACL injury subjected to reconstruction surgery, published in English, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, or French were included. Records were identified through database search and reference screening by two reviewers, which independently examined titles and abstracts and irrelevant studies were excluded based in eligibility criteria. Relevant full texts were analysed for eligibility, and all relevant studies were included in the systematic review. Results Ten studies were included in the systematic review with a mean methodological quality score of 6. Results demonstrate positive effects of WBV in relevant outcomes such as knee function, electromyographic activity, balance, and muscle strength. Conclusions WBV demonstrated a positive effect in strength, balance, electromyographic activity, and knee function.Gene coexpression analysis is widely used to infer gene modules associated with diseases and other clinical traits. However, a systematic view and comparison of gene coexpression networks and modules across a cohort of tissues are more or less ignored. In this study, we first construct gene coexpression networks and modules of 52 GTEx tissues and cell lines. The network modules are enriched in many tissue-common functions like organelle membrane and tissue-specific functions. We then study the correlation of tissues from the network point of view. As a result, the network modules of most tissues are significantly correlated, indicating a general similar network pattern across tissues. However, the level of similarity among the tissues is different. The tissues closing in a physical location seem to be more similar in their coexpression networks. For example, the two adjacent tissues fallopian tube and bladder have the highest Fisher's exact test p value 8.54E-291 among all tissue pairs. It is known that immune-associated modules are frequently identified in coexperssion modules. In this study, we found immune modules in many tissues like liver, kidney cortex, lung, uterus, adipose subcutaneous, and adipose visceral omentum. However, not all tissues have immune-associated modules, for example, brain cerebellum. Finally, by the clique analysis, we identify the largest clique of modules, in which the genes in each module are significantly overlapped with those in other modules. As a result, we are able to find a clique of size 40 (out of 52 tissues), indicating a strong correlation of modules across tissues. It is not surprising that the 40 modules are most commonly enriched in immune-related functions.Aims It is currently unknown whether an association exists between polypropylene mesh and urethral diverticulum formation following placement of polypropylene midurethral slings (MUS) for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI). We aimed to examine the literature associating MUS with the occurrence of urethral diverticula. Methods Multiple online research databases, including PubMed, Google Scholar, EBSCOhost, and the Cochrane Library, were searched, from January 2019 to February 2019, for evidence related to the occurrence of urethral diverticula following polypropylene MUS procedures. Results Four case reports were published demonstrating the occurrence of urethral diverticula following the use of polypropylene mesh for surgical treatment of SUI. Subjects of these cases were menopausal and had an elevated body mass index (BMI), recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs), autoimmune conditions, or prior pelvic floor surgeries. A thorough urologic workup, including imaging prior to sling placement, was not always performed. Conclusion No clear association exists between polypropylene MUS placement and subsequent urethral diverticulum formation. Factors that diminish polypropylene mesh biocompatibility include elevated BMI, menopause, recurrent UTIs, prior pelvic surgeries, and preexisting medical conditions. Symptoms associated with urethral diverticula should prompt a complete urologic workup prior to MUS placement.The AT-hook transcription factor, AKNA, is a nuclear protein that affects a few physiological and pathological processes including cancer. Here, we investigated the role of AKNA in gastric cancer (GC). By using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blot assays, AKNA was found deregulated in both GC cell lines and 32 paired GC tissues. Subsequently, Kaplan-Meier analysis and clinicopathological analysis were conducted using both 32 GC cases' data above and RNA-Seq data of AKNA in 354 GC patients and the corresponding clinical-pathological data obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), and AKNA expression was found closely related to location, metastasis, and TNM staging of GC. Then, the potential molecular mechanisms of AKNA in GC were explored by gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA), qRT-PCR, and Western blot assays. AKNA was found to be a hub gene related to homotypic cell to cell adhesion, regulation of cell to cell adhesion, leukocyte cell to cell adhesion, and regulation of T cell proliferation in GC. GO analysis revealed that AKNA involved in the regulation of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-related pathways including chemokine signaling pathway, cytokine to cytokine receptor interaction, cell adhesion molecules, and jak-stat signaling pathway in GC. To explore the regulation of AKNA expression, Targetscan and TargetMiner were used to predict the possible miRNA which targeted AKNA and found the expression of AKNA was negatively correlated to miR-762 which could be sponged by circTRNC18. In conclusion, AKNA could function as a tumor suppressor by modulating EMT-related pathways in GC. The expression of AKNA might be regulated by circTRNC18/miR-762 axis. AKNA could serve as a potential biomarker and an effective target for GC diagnosis and therapy.The objective of the present study was to determine the structure of the movement pattern performed during a wheelchair fencing lunge that is executed in response to visual and sensory stimuli. In addition, a comparison was made between fencers in the categories A and B of disability. In addition, the analysis involved the correlation between the duration of the sensorimotor response and the value of the bioelectric signal recorded in selected muscles. Seven Paralympic team athletes specializing in wheelchair fencing (3 in category A and 4 in category B) participated in the research. The fencers perform at international level competitions and are multiple medalists of the Paralympic Games. In the study, a wireless system for sEMG and accelerometer signal measurement was employed to test the intervals between the initiation of the lunge attack and its termination defined by the touch of the weapon on the coach's torso. The electrodes were placed on 9 key muscles responsible for the effectiveness of the executed attack DEL, TRI, BC, ECR FCR, LD, and EAO. The significant intergroup difference in the muscle activation was found to be 0.333 s for category A fencers and 0.522 s for category A fencers at p = 0.039 applies to the latissimus dorsi (LD LT) muscle, which demonstrates its significance as a postural muscle in the structure of the examined movement pattern. In terms of the values of EMG, a tendency for higher MVC (%) values in most muscles for category A competitors was recorded. The latissimus dorsi (DL RT) muscle with an intergroup difference of MVC-114.63 for cat. A and 67.50 for cat. B at p = 0.039 turned out to play a significant role. The results prove the role of postural muscles external abdominal oblique and latissimus dorsi on the effectiveness of the attacks executed in wheelchair fencing.Typhoid fever is the result of a human host-restricted Salmonella enteric serotype typhi infection that causes enteric fever. Around 21 million people contract typhoid annually, with Pakistan's inhabitants at most risk amongst Asian countries where typhoid remains prevalent. Decades of indiscriminate antibiotic usage has driven the evolution of multidrug-resistant strains and more recently, extensively drug-resistant (XDR) strains of Salmonella enteric serotype typhi. Current reports of extensively drug-resistant typhoid fever outbreak in Pakistan are not only a major concern for Pakistan but also for health authorities worldwide intercontinental transmission, spread, and replacement of native strains in neighboring countries and a major impediment to Pakistani health care management. The WHO records that there are 5274 cases of extensively drug-resistant (XDR) typhoid fever out of a total of 8188 total cases of typhoid fever reported in Pakistan. The last remaining feasible oral antibiotic that XDR typhoid remains susceptible to is azithromycin; this is a cause of major concern. Additionally, several cases of XDR typhoid fever have also been reported in patients travelling from Pakistan to the USA, UK, and Canada. This review article attempts to raise the issue of XDR typhoid with respect to its epidemiology, prevention, management, and future outlook and stresses a better understanding of antimicrobial stewardship and general surveillance of the disease. Although progress is being made to combat XDR typhoid locally, efficient, unified efforts on a national and international scale are required to contain the XDR outbreak before it is no longer manageable and leads us back to the preantibiotic era.Osteochondroma is one of the most common benign bone tumor; however, the surgical treatment still remains a challenge for those that occur at the distal tibiofibular interosseous location. Previously, the transfibular approach has been successfully described, but the potential damage of the syndesmosis would give rise to the instability of the ankle joint and thus may result in the unfavorable long-term outcome. Here, a revised strategy which can protect the syndesmotic complex is introduced. From 2010 to 2017, eleven patients with the distal tibiofibular interosseous osteochondroma who underwent the revised surgery were collected. The distal fibular osteotomy and posterior tibial osteotomy were performed to keep the inferior syndesmosis intact for better stability of the ankle joint. Both the anterior tibiofibular ligaments (AITFL) and posterior tibiofibular ligaments (PITFL) have been preserved successfully, and thus, the stability of the ankle joint has been maintained due to our strategy. The VAS and AOFAS scores were utilized to assess the clinical outcome and function. Postoperatively, all the patients were pain-free and were able to wear the appropriate shoes at the last follow-up. Preoperative and postoperative AOFAS scores were 93.63 ± 6.91 and 47.27 ± 5.27 (P less then 0.05), respectively. Moreover, the average VAS score was 1.73 ± 0.27 (compared with preoperative as 7.45 ± 2.15, P less then 0.05), demonstrating obvious improvement after the operation. To our best knowledge, this is the first time to perform the resection of the distal tibial interosseous osteochondroma involving the fibula without interrupting the inferior syndesmotic complex especially the AITFL and PITFL. We believe that this strategy may pave a new way for optimized clinical outcome for these patients with distal tibiofibular interosseous osteochondroma. This clinical trial study is registered with number ChiCTR1900024690.Aim The aim of this study is to compare endotracheal tube leak, tube selection, mechanical ventilation, and side effects in the use of uncuffed tubes in both laparoscopic and laparotomy surgeries in pediatric patients. Material and Method. Patients who underwent laparotomy (LT group) or laparoscopic (LS group) surgery between 1 and 60 months. In the selection of uncuffed tubes, it was also planned to start endotracheal intubation with the largest uncuffed tube and to start intubation with a small uncuffed tube if the tube encounters resistance and does not pass. Mechanical parameters, endotracheal tube size, tube changes, and side effects are recorded. Results A total of 102 patients, 38 females and 64 males, with a mean age of 10.9 ± 8.1 months, body weight 7.1 ± 3.7 kg, and height 67 ± 15 cm, were included. 54 patients underwent laparoscopic surgery, and 48 patients underwent laparotomy. Tube exchange was performed in a total of 18 patients. In patients who underwent tube exchange, 11 patients were intubated with a smaller ETT number and others endotracheal intubation; when the MV parameters were TVe 20%, a larger uncuffed tube was used due to PIP 30 cmH2O pressure. Patients with aspiration were not found in the LT and LS groups. There was no difference in the intergroup evaluation for postoperative side effects such as cough, laryngospasm, stridor, and aspiration. Conclusion There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of tube changes and side effects. So that we can start with the largest possible uncuffed tube to decrease ETT leak, both laparotomy and laparoscopic operations in children can be achieved with safe mechanical ventilation and target tidal volume.Background Varicella vaccine is available for voluntary purchase with a single dose currently recommended for children aged ≥12 months. An epidemiological study was undertaken in order to determine the characteristics of the outbreak, assess vaccine effectiveness, and examine risk factors for vaccine failure. Methods A varicella case was defined as a generalized papulovesicular rash (without other apparent causes) in a child without prior varicella attending the kindergarten during February 22 to April 7 of 2016. Varicella among vaccinated children (breakthrough varicella) was defined as varicella occurring >42 days after vaccination. Children's vaccination status was verified with immunization records through local vaccination information platform. Results Of the 738 children, 664 (90.0%) had no prior varicella history. Of these, 364 (54.8%) had received a single-dose varicella vaccine before outbreak. A total of 30 cases occurred in the outbreak, and 9 of them (30%) had breakthrough varicella. Age at vaccination ( 0.05). Single-dose varicella vaccination was 64.7% effective in preventing any varicella. Conclusions Single-dose varicella vaccine is effective in reducing the varicella attack rate, but not high enough to prevent outbreak. Timely detection and effective isolation are key factors in controlling varicella. Improving single-dose vaccination coverage and implementing two-dose vaccination strategy should be recommended to provide excellent protection to prevent varicella in the future in Suzhou.Objective To investigate the feasibility and clinical outcome of the all-blastocyst-culture and single blastocyst transfer strategy in women aged ≥35 years. Methods A retrospective analysis of patients aged ≥35 years undergoing IVF/ICSI was performed from January 2017 to April 2019 in the reproductive center of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University. A total of 155 cases treated with ovarian hyperstimulation by prolonged protocol and implemented single (84 cases) or double (71 cases) blastocyst transfer were collected. Then, patients were further divided into less then 38 yr. group and ≥38 yr. group, and the laboratory and clinical outcomes were compared between the groups. Results The double-blastocyst-transfer (DBT) group showed higher clinical pregnancy rate and multiple pregnancy rate and lower neonatal birth weight than those in the single-blastocyst-transfer (SBT) group (P less then 0.05). However, there were no statistically significant differences between the groups in the embormal ovarian reserve, which would reduce the multiple pregnancy rate.Background Early initiation of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) decreases human immunodeficiency virus- (HIV-) related complications, restores patients' immunity, decreases viral load, and substantially improves quality of life. However, antiretroviral treatment failure considerably impedes the merits of HAART. Objective This study is aimed at determining the prevalence of immunologic and clinical antiretroviral treatment failure. Methods A cross-sectional study design using clinical and immunologic treatment failure definition was used to conduct the study. Sociodemographic characteristics and clinical features of patients were retrieved from patients' medical registry between the years 2009 and 2015. All patients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria in the study period were studied. Predictors of treatment failure were identified using Kaplan-Meier curves and multivariable Cox regression analysis. Data analysis was done using SPSS version 21 software, and the level of statistical significance was declared at a p value less then 0.05. Results A total of 770 were studied. The prevalence of treatment failure was 4.5%. The AZT-based regimen (AHR = 16.95, 95% CI 3.02-95.1, p = 0.001), baseline CD4 count ≥ 301 (AHR = 0.199, 95% CI 0.05-0.76, p = 0.018), and bedridden during HAART initiation (AHR = 0.131, 95% CI 0.029-0.596, p = 0.009) were the predictors of treatment failure. Conclusion The prevalence of treatment failure was lower with the risk being higher among patients on the AZT-based regimen. On the other hand, the risk of treatment failure was lower among patients who started HAART at baseline CD4 count ≥ 301 and patients who were bedridden during HAART initiation. We recommend further prospective, multicenter cohort studies to be conducted to precisely detect the prevalence of treatment failure using viral load determination in the whole country.Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) is an emerging physical therapy for the treatment of early temporomandibular joint injury and has a good effect on promoting cartilage and subchondral bone tissue repair. However, the best LIPUS intensity and treatment duration remain unclear. This study is aimed at observing the preventive and therapeutic effects of different modes of LIPUS and at identifying the optimal LIPUS treatment regimen for temporomandibular joint injury. In the present study, rat models of temporomandibular joint injury were established using a chronic sleep deprivation (CSD) method, and the effect of LIPUS as intensities of 30, 45, and 60 mW/cm2 was observed at 7, 14, and 21 days. After CSD, the condylar cartilage of the rats demonstrated variable degrees of surface roughening, collagen fiber disarrangement or even partial exfoliation, decreased proteoglycan synthesis and cartilage thickness, decreased chondrocyte proliferation, decreased type 2 collagen (COL-2) expression, and increased matrix metalloproteinase- (MMP-) 3 expression at all three time points. When the rats with CSD received different intensities of LIPUS treatment, the pathological changes were alleviated to various extents. The groups receiving 45 mW/cm2 LIPUS showed the most significant relief of cartilage damage, and this significant effect was observed on days 14 and 21. These results demonstrated that LIPUS can effectively inhibit CSD-induced condylar cartilage damage in rats, and LIPUS treatment at an intensity of 45 mW/cm2 for at least 2 weeks is the optimal regimen for temporomandibular joint injury.With the popularization of rehabilitation robots, it is necessary to develop quantitative motor function assessment methods for patients with a stroke. To make the assessment equipment easier to use in clinics and combine the assessment methods with the rehabilitation training process, this paper proposes an anthropomorphic rehabilitation robot based on the basic movement patterns of the upper limb, point-to-point reaching and circle drawing movement. This paper analyzes patients' movement characteristics in aspects of movement range, movement accuracy, and movement smoothness and the output force characteristics by involving 8 patients. Besides, a quantitative assessment method is also proposed based on multivariate fitting methods. It can be concluded that the area of the real trajectory and movement accuracy during circle drawing movement as well as the ratio of force along the sagittal axis in backward point-to-point movement are the unique parameters that are different remarkably between stroke patients and healthy subjects. The fitting function has a high goodness of fit with the Fugl-Meyer scores for the upper limb (R 2 = 0.91, p = 0.015), which demonstrates that the fitting function can be used to assess patients' upper limb movement function. The indicators are recorded during training movement, and the fitting function can calculate the scores immediately, which makes the functional assessment quantitative and timely. Combining the training process and assessment, the quantitative assessment method will farther expand the application of rehabilitation robots.Background Currently, effective genetic markers are limited to predict the clinical outcome of melanoma. High-throughput multiomics sequencing data have provided a valuable approach for the identification of genes associated with cancer prognosis. Method The multidimensional data of melanoma patients, including clinical, genomic, and transcriptomic data, were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). These samples were then randomly divided into two groups, one for training dataset and the other for validation dataset. In order to select reliable biomarkers, we screened prognosis-related genes, copy number variation genes, and SNP variation genes and integrated these genes to further select features using random forests in the training dataset. We screened for robust biomarkers and established a gene-related prognostic model. Finally, we verified the selected biomarkers in the test sets (GSE19234 and GSE65904) and on clinical samples extracted from melanoma patients using qRT-PCR and immunohistochemistry cting the survival of melanoma patients.Objectives To investigate the prevalence and factors promoting caries in primary dentition of 3-5-year-old children in Northeast China. Materials and methods Data of 1,229 children aged 3 to 5 years were randomly selected. The caries prevalence and other indicators were assessed, and the results analyzed by SPSS. A questionnaire was also given to the children's guardians to ascertain the potential risk factors associated with caries. Results The decayed, missing, and filled teeth (dmft) index in children aged 3, 4, and 5 years old was 3.17, 5.13, and 6.07, respectively, while the caries prevalence rate was 62.16%, 75.89%, and 87.28% accordingly. The incidence of caries among rural children was higher than that in urban areas. Regarding oral health awareness, it was found that parents in urban areas had more accurate perceptions of oral health problems. It was also noted that the children's brushing habits were worrying. Family economic and medical resources are not the main causes of serious dental caries in rural areas. Conclusions The oral health status of children aged 3-5 years is not optimistic. Many parents have a low awareness of oral health. Strengthening the promotion of oral health knowledge is an effective way to change the situation.In this study, we propose a simple and computationally efficient method based on the multifactor dimensional reduction algorithm to identify gene-gene interactions associated with the survival phenotype. The proposed method, referred to as KM-MDR, uses the Kaplan-Meier median survival time as a classifier. The KM-MDR method classifies multilocus genotypes into a binary attribute for high- or low-risk groups using median survival time and replaces balanced accuracy with log-rank test statistics as a score to determine the best model. Through intensive simulation studies, we compared the power of KM-MDR with that of Surv-MDR, Cox-MDR, and AFT-MDR. It was found that KM-MDR has a similar power to that of Surv-MDR, with less computing time, and has comparable power to that of Cox-MDR and AFT-MDR, even when there is a covariate effect. Furthermore, we apply KM-MDR to a real dataset of ovarian cancer patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA).Background Lanthanum (La) exposure can cause central nervous system (CNS) damage and dysfunction in children, seriously affecting intellectual development. miR-124 plays an important role in the development of the nervous system. We exposed rats to a La environment then observed the rats' learning and memory damage and neurotoxicity and the relationship with miR-124. Methods Rats were exposed to LaCl3 via drinking water. The rats' offspring were exposed to LaCl3 from their mother before weaning, then from La water for 28 days. A Morris water maze was used to observe spatial memory capabilities. H&E staining and TUNEL assays were used to observe pathological changes and apoptosis in the hippocampus. miR-124 was detected by RT-qPCR, and its targeting was confirmed by luciferase assay. The HT22 cell line was cultured with LaCl3 and treated with miR-124 mimics or inhibitors; then, expression of PI3K/Akt-related proteins was detected by western blot. Results La exposure can lead to impaired learning and memory ability in offspring.
