Best All Terrain Stroller
All terrain strollers are a great option if you like running, hiking on rocky trails or strolling through parks with grassy areas. You'll need big, durable tires with suspension that are able to cope with the rough terrain.
All strollers with terrain are designed to help you to instill a love for the outdoors in your child from an early age. We evaluate the ease of use and maneuverability, including the ability to access the basket to engage brakes, insert and remove the infant seat (where applicable).
The Best Overall Stroller
If you plan to utilize a stroller for transporting your child for many years it must do more than simply get them from A to B. Strollers grow faster than rabbits. A stroller that can handle your entire family's excursions is a smart investment.
The Nuna MIXX Next can do all that and more: It can be used from birth, thanks to its baby-friendly flat recline, has a compact fold for easy storage and rolls effortlessly over grass, sidewalks and cobblestone. It's also available as a bundle with the lightweight PIPA car seat, the urbn, to complete the travel system. The price is higher than the other options, but our test subject said it was worth it because it's durable and can handle even the most challenging trips.
For a light stroller that can still tackle some more rugged terrain, look for three-wheelers. The Thule Shine was a previous winner in this category. It's a bit more expensive than our other picks but it's sturdy, and has a lot of features (car seat compatible! dual cup holders!) This makes it a worthwhile purchase. Additionally, it folds compactly enough to fit in an airplane overhead bin which makes it a great choice for families who travel a lot.
Wendy Schmitz, Senior Review Editor at Baby Gear Reviews, has been reviewing strollers for over two years. She and our product testing team push, run to fold, lift and push each stroller to evaluate its quality, comfort and performance. They're all moms too, so they know how important a good stroller is in everyday life as well as for family outings. This year, we widened our test pool to include five stroller and parenting experts: Lisa Trofe, executive director of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association; Kyleyn Gosewisch, customer care specialist at strolleria, a retail store with a focus on strollers Marielle Marquez, a pediatric occupational therapy therapist; Holly Choi, cofounder and co-owner of Safe Beginnings First Aid, an organization that offers child safety resources as well as Sarah Huff, senior manager of customer and community at BabyQuip, an infant stroller and baby equipment rental business.
The BOB Sport Utility
The BOB Sport utility is a great stroller to use if you want to leave the track and get some exercise. This jogging stoller has pneumatic knobby wheels that are great for trail runs, as well as a handbrake that lets you to control the downhills. It also features a state-of the-art suspension system and a two-step folding design, and an enormous cargo basket. If pushchairsandprams purchase the right adapters, you can use it with an infant car seat.
The biggest issue with this stroller is its weight and dimensions when folded. It weighs 25lbs and folds to 17,850 cubic inches, which is the average for this class of strollers. The size of its footprint is not suitable for tight turns and small trunk space. It does however have a small handle at the back of the storage bin that can be pulled to collapse the stroller into a compact flat position.
The stroller is easy to maneuver, despite its size. The front wheel is fitted with a locking mechanism which lets you switch from normal to locked running mode. The handlebar can be adjusted for different heights for parents. It has a large seat that can be retracted to nearly flat, and a large window made of vinyl.
Another major benefit is the Sport Utility's impressive quality, which earned it a 9 out of 10 in this measure. It is built with a strong aluminum frame with tight connections and no rough edges or weak stitching. It also has adjustable shocks which aid in smooth-rolling performance.
The Sport Utility stroller, like the other BOBs reviewed in this review, has optional car seat adapters. This allows you to use it with a variety of infant car seats. It took us 5:24 minutes during our tests to assemble the stroller, starting from unpacking it to getting it ready to go. It was simple enough to complete, however you'll need an Philips head screwdriver to complete the process. The instruction manual included is clear and well-organized. However, it's recommended to keep one in your case.
The Baby Trend Expedition
This jogger was made with safety, style and convenience as its main goals. It comes with a parent tray that includes 2 cup holders and covered storage, and the child tray which can be swung away and has two cup holders. The adjustable canopy with a peek-aboo window and the extra-wide ergonomically-shaped handle offer comfort for both parents. The lockable front swivel wheel on the front can be locked for jogging and unlocked to stroll. The large storage basket is able to hold essential travel items.
In the Strollers test program at Consumer Reports, the Baby Trend Expedition Jogger does well overall for the price, and scores higher over its rivals in a variety of categories. This includes ease of using the 5-point harness that folds and unfolds, adjusting the backrest, activating the brakes on the wheel and infant car seat removal and installation (only for compatible models). It's designed to have a simple one-handed recline, that is sufficient for sleep. However the canopy cover that ratchets isn't easy to secure. It also takes almost 8 minutes to set up and the directions are confusing due to multiple languages mashed together and hard-to-understand illustrations.
The only downside to this jogger is that it doesn't come with suspension, which means the ride could be more bumpy than the other all-terrain strollers we've tested. This can be uncomfortable for younger children particularly when their nap is about to start. It does have tires that are filled with air however they don't offer the same shock absorption as the rubber wheels you find on more expensive strollers.
This is a great option for those who don't want to run frequently but would like to walk over grass and gravel with ease and without any problems with curbs, or other obstacles. It's also a good option for families with a limited space since it folds into a compact unit. It's lighter than a lot of the other joggers we've tried and fits into spaces that many full-size strollers can't.
Another benefit is that it is easier to carry and lift than the larger joggers we've tested. This is especially important if it's something you lift out and into your car trunk regularly or if you're constantly on the move.
The Nipper Sport V4
Nipper Sport V4 is the most efficient jogger for all terrains. This new version of Out 'n' Around's 3-wheeled jogging stroller is designed specifically for jogging and comes with large 16 pneumatic alloy tyres that can handle even the toughest paths and tracks. The Nipper is light and compact making it easy to transport and fold.
The pushchair is equipped with a range of features that make it ideal for all kinds of terrain, including front suspension and a handlebar brake. It comes with a removable quilted liner and multi-position recline, as well a padded 5-point safety harness and hinged bar. It's also travel system-compatible which means you can use it with a Cybex Maxi-Cosi or Be-Safe infant car seats.
Another great feature of this buggy is the large front wheel, which can help ensure a smooth ride for your child. This is particularly crucial when you are dealing with terrain that is difficult, as it allows the buggy to better track and glide more easily over dips and bumps. In addition, the Nipper Sport is also very easy to drive. The handlebar has an ergonomic design and a single-pedal easy-lock brake that can be adjusted to suit your needs. The buggy is easy to fold, and comes with clear step-by-step instructions and pictures in the user manual.
The Nipper Sport is suitable for children up to the age of six months, and can be used by a newborn due to its infant insert built-in. However, it's not recommended for use with babies younger than six months, as the seat's harness isn't secure enough to ensure their safety.
The pushchair is also without an under-seat storage basket. seat. It does have a small grocery pouch on the back of the seat, but it wouldn't be large enough to accommodate the size of a large bag for changing. It is easy to open and close. Two hand-holds are required to release the plastic catch on either side of the lower frame. The red handlebar has an additional lock that can be opened with just one hand.
