Counter Strike New Revealed
Valve finally announced Counter Strike New after weeks of speculation. It's a major update for CS:GO that will be bringing it on the Source 2 engine.
It also includes the ability to use smoke grenades that respond and sub-tick updates for servers. It's got plenty of armchair gamers going crazy but it appears to be an enormous upgrade for regular players.
Smokes
Counter Strike New has a massive update that will alter the way smokes work in the game. These changes are being dubbed as responsive smokes and are a huge game changer. Smokes will expand to fill areas and move around objects on the map. They will also respond to the lighting of the games, making them look more real. In addition to these new features, smokes are now be capable of interfacing with game events and will offer new tactical opportunities. For example, bullets will push smoke to briefly make clear sightlines, while explosions from hex grenades will disperse smoke obstruction.
Smokes will now be more dynamic in the game. In the past, smokes were a fixed form that was limited in terms of how far they could travel and the amount of vision it blocked. But, the new smokes will expand to fill the space they are within and hinder the player's view when they are within it. This is a major upgrade that will make the game more exciting and give both sides the same visibility.
Smokes will react to the light as well as the weapons and the surroundings in the world space. Instead of an update of 64 ticks every millisecond, CS: Go will now be able utilize sub-ticks (or as Valve calls them, "micro-ticks") to communicate with the server. Each of these small increments of time will be recorded by the client and transmitted to the server, which will then return the latest game state to players. The servers will now know exactly moment that you shot your shot, jumped, peeked and other inputs.
The video doesn't cover everything. However csgo cases does clarify that every piece of data sent by the client has a timestamp and that the server collects all information in chronological order from all players before sending it back. According to the video, a CS: GO server will now be able to send more than twice the data as a 64-tick servers.
This means that even if the tick rate of the game is increased to 128 Hz, it will still be able to handle your commands instantly. It's not only about increasing the tick rate, also, micro-tick updates can reduce latency and input lag by ensuring that the server will respond to your actions with no delays or glitches.
Valve's technological improvements to the game are only beginning. Valve employs particles and dynamic smoke to improve how smoke interacts with the environment. It's upgrading all maps with high-resolution lighting, textures and models. All CS: GO cosmetics and weapons will get a makeover using Source 2 tools and features.
Maps
The next update for Counter Strike New brings new maps, as well as a few classics with facelifts. The updates are currently being tested as part of a limited test beta.
