How to Replace a Kia Sportage Replacement Key

The key in many Kia models has the keyless entry feature built into. This key is similar to a remote control and can be exchanged with an Kia dealer.

Key fobs might stop working due to a variety of reasons, such as a dead battery, worn-out buttons signals, signal interference or water damage. Here are some helpful tips on how you can get your Kia Sportage replacement key working again.

How do you replace a remote key or smartkey

If your Kia is equipped with an intelligent key, remote key, push to start key, or a standard non-transponder key made of metal, the battery in these keys will eventually require replacing. This is especially true if the vehicle displays a message that indicates that the smart or remote key is not powered by the battery.

This is a relatively simple process. To replace the battery of the keyfob remove your mechanical key from the slit at the back of the fob. Then, you need to pry the cover open. Inside the key fob, there will be tiny screws that hold the battery in its place. Using a small screwdriver, remove the screw and remove the battery that was in place. Then, you can insert the new battery and close the hole in the key fob.

Test the key fob by pressing the lock/unlock buttons. If the doors unlock and lock in the same way, you're good to go! You can now make use of the hands-free lock/unlock feature on your Kia when your fingers start to get cold or you need to do some errands in Brandon.

Note: Some key fobs could need to be programmed (transponder chips or smart keys). This requires a computer, which is only available to the locksmith for cars or dealer. There is a possibility of having a standard keyfob, or a Smart Key, based on the model of Kia Sportage.
