A trick to help measure in the garden is to take one of the long handled garden tools like a shovel and mark on its handle using a tape measure. Collecting and preserving autumn leaves is a fun gardening project, especially for the kids. If your favorite flower pot or garden container has a hole or crack where dirt is leaking through, try lining that area inside the pot with a coffee filter. It works great to hold dirt in and keep your walkways and container gardens neat and clean. Try them out on hanging baskets as well!

When you are pruning a tree, make sure that your tools are sharp. Cutting with a dull tool can tear the bark off the tree, causing unnecessary damage to the tree. Not only that, cutting with a dull tool causes you to spend extra energy in cutting. A sharp tool will give you a cleaner cut with the least amount of effort.

Pay attention to the time of year that your plants bloom before you start pruning them. If you prune your flowering shrubs and trees while they have buds on them, that plant won't flower that year. The best time to prune is just after the last season's blooms have faded.

It simply requires some research, some work, and some patience. Your efforts will be rewarded by a great garden, and the satisfaction of having created something yourself.
